P. 418: Camp Snoopy expansion announced including new family coaster

Recommended Posts

If Knott's ever built a giga people would hate it and talk about how it was ruining the charm of the park (especially if it went over Ghost Town). The ride would have to replace things and be built over things since the park has no room for expansion... everyone wants it now but if it ever happened the amount of complaining would be amazing.

So I might be going to Carowinds this weekend (probably Friday), and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for doing the park. If someone has a good game plan, I would definitely appreciate it! Thanks!

Do Nighthawk first and get that out of the way. If you have a Platinum pass, you get to go into the park 30 minutes early to get to the line you want to. Not all the park is open for this, but Nighthawk is.

Then the rest of the park is pretty easy after that. Nighthawk is the only really slow loader in the park.

You may want to hit Flying Ace as it is next to Nighthawk and only has the 1 train.

I wonder if Carowinds will get a brony convention next year.

^ I'm confused by your statement. What other Carolina park is supposed to be getting a Giga?

You should be confused, because i am stupid.

I was thinking of Kings Dominion, which i now geographically relocated to another state. But the point remains: I find it interesting that these relatively "smaller" parks are getting some massive coasters in comparison to parks like SFMM, SFGam, and even SFGadv.

You probably should know that Kings Dominion and Carowids aren't small parks. KD is 400 acres and Carowinds is over 300. SFGAdv of course is the largest park in the world, but SFMM isn't even 300. Yes, they have more coasters, but in terms of land and attractions, both of these parks are bigger than Magic Mountain and Great America. But you also have to keep in mind that this is Six Flags we're talking about. They in no way are going to build a coaster at a park that costs over $20 million. Cedar Fair on the other hand is willing to do it!

sorry, I am not communicating well. When I referred to "smaller" parks, it was not intended as a reference on geographic size, but rather on attendance and (presumed) profitability, or at least revenue. Obviously, Cedar Fair has a different model than Six Flags -- that's what I find "interesting" (i.e., their willingness to put some massive, very expensive rides into their relatively smaller sister parks -- we don't see Six flags putting these rides in their "major" parks, i.e., SFGadV, SFMM or SFGam, much less putting them into SFStlouis, although there was that cool period when Darien Lake and SFNE and SFA were the first ones getting those cool new Intamin hypers)

^But do take into account that under Kinzel all the Cedar Fair parks were pretty much getting the same attractions. Even though Valleyfair was the first to get the Chance hyper who would have thought that a smaller park like that, as well as Dorney, would be home to a large coaster like that? In the Six Flags model that would not happen.

Now all these years after Millennium Force CF is building gigas. I don't find it odd that a park like Carowinds would receive one as I feel it's based on location and who the competition is. We all know that SFOG is the king of coaster parks in the South. Even though Intimidator is taller and faster Goliath is the better ride overall. If Carowinds wants to make a name for itself and stand out as the South's "thrill capital" then a giga makes total sense. I'm sure the sheer size is going to turn heads all the way down to Atlanta.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but if Carowinds ends up building a 325-foot giga coaster, will that be the tallest (and probably fastest) non-launched coaster in the world? I don't think that would be a fact worth marketing, but it's still pretty neat nonetheless.

Yes, at least until the Polercoaster opens in 2016.

While the pieces could be for the Carowinds coaster the chain lift looks to have a much tighter radius when reaching the top compared to a hyper style B&M ride. It look very similar to Krake however, which make me think this is the track for one of the dive machines going to Gardaland and Efteling.

I could be wrong though..

The piece for a B&M hyper style ride dosen't have such a steep angle at the top of the lift, also the track piece is longer.

Maybe it will have a vertical lift and beyond vertical drop!

^What do you mean? The track size for B&M giga is the same as a B&M hyper. Yes, the lift pieces may not be as thick as Leviathan but that could easily be because of a different support structure being used.

This is the crown for Leviathan.

^And? That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Leviathan's lift hill pieces require a thicker track because the entire thing is held up by 4 supports. I believe that this is because Dragon Fire is right underneath and there isn't really anymore room for supports....which in turn means that any other park that wants to build a B&M giga (or any other model) could have as many supports as they wanted requiring a thinner lift track. In the end, only track WIDTH can tell us the likely model (Dive and Wing Coaster) as the depth of the track can vary in every model.

As you can see, Dragon Fire isn't as big an obstacle as you made it seem.

Canada's Wonderland / Cedar Fair wanted something tall, and B&M delivered a product that could do that efficiently. Yes, any other park could receive the 'standard' issue lift. But you have to admit that this seems to be very effective & efficient, especially when working with these heights. I305 is also proof of this.

Also, notice how the radius is small for a lengthy train, such as a Hyper. _koppen has already explained this in his previous post.
