prabe
Good luck, Robb! It's good to hear that you're off to a good start. I myself have lost something in the vicinity of forty pounds (possibly more) since the beginning of May. Some months I dropped close to ten pounds, others it was closer to five; I've consistently been losing weight, however. I did something similar to what it sounds as though you are doing. I stopped pigging out and had to cut out certain foods I have weaknesses for (fried potato products; cheesy and/or creamy foods). Cooking for myself instead of eating packaged food/takeout has helped a great deal as well. My not having a car give me opportunities for moderate exercise (walking), and I'm having to do more errands with doing my cooking than I was before. The escalators on the DC Metro work well as brief exercise, as well. It's possible. I'm planning to be down to something approaching "normal" weight (in the vicinity of 170) by the Europe trip. Me, before.
Cyber.Fiber
Robb! Way to go! Like Wes, I too need to gain about 30 pounds, and put on some muscle.
Gnome
Went to the gym around 11pm did a "20 minute workout" and then came back home. So what's my weigh in for today? 258.5!!! How do you only do a 20 minute work out? I suppose if you're only doing cardio, I understand... but whenever I hit the gym it takes me some where between 1 - 2 hours. Usually after 2 I'm spent. haha
slither37
Good luck Robb. I am trying to lose some as well. the seat belts on MF and TTD were getting a wee bit tight at the end of the season. Challenging time of the year to do it as well.
mcjaco
^ Have I ever told you that I really don't like you? Awwww. Glad to hear the first few days are going well. I ate like a pig this weekend, so this may be in my plans soon enough.

Yeah, I know it's not much of a work out, but it was late and I wanted to at least go for a bit. And it's better than sitting on my ass at the computer for 20 minutes! --Robb
robbalvey
Day 3 - My morning was pretty much the same. Yup, another Power Bar for breakfast. I really am not a 'breakfast person.' Neither Elissa or I are. In fact, if it wasn't for eating a Power Bar I probably wouldn't eat anything until lunch. I keep hearing our breakfast is the "most important meal"...blech, whatever, I just don't do it. The rest of my day up until lunch was mostly TPR work. Had a LOT of DVD cases to put together getting ready for orders for the new DVD. We went to lunch at Olive Garden. I normally get the Soup, Salad, and Breadsticks, which I did again today. Although I only had one bowl of soup, one bowl of salad, and one breadstick. Normally I get a re-fill on each. Not today! Still, it was plenty of food to fill me up. Jahan came over to help out with the TPR work. We ran some errands and had stopped for a Frozen Coke snack. Came back to the apt and did some more TPR work. He and I took Kristen out of a walk. Walked over to the mall and strolled around there for about 45 minutes. Then we both went to Friday's. Had a plate of buffalo wings and a diet coke. Came home, finished up TPR stuff, went to the gym for 45 minutes, came home...went to bed. Today's weigh in? 256.5! Total weight loss so far: -7.5lbs So far, so good...although I'm not expecting EVERY DAY to be like this, I will say that it's been quite easy to adjust to eating slightly less. And really, that's all it's been. As you can see from this day, I pretty much ate the same types of things I did before, just much less, and I made sure I at least went to the gym for a while. With the combination of walk KidTums around for about an hour and 45 minutes at the gym, it was quite an active day for me. Like I said in another post, I'm not one of those people who goes to the gym and walks on a treadmill, but I do like to get out and walk places. And pushing the stroller just helps that out even more! Anyway, today I bring you.... Feet photo complete with SOCKS!!!!
mcjaco
^ You know I'm just teasing Robb! My Mom lost over a 100 pounds a couple of years ago. The personal trainer she hired told her over and over, all you need is 20 minutes of good hard cardio a day. So Robb's got the right idea.
Guy T. Koepp
Keep up the good work. Are you covering your feet because of peoples comments about them?
SharkTums
I ate breakfast up until about 8th grade, then just didn't really want, like, or need it. I then started again when I was knocked up with KT cause I felt sick unless I ate something within 20 minutes of waking up and you're supposed to eat better while pregnant. As soon as I finished letting KT suck milk out of my boobs, I went right back to not eating breakfast! Boo to Breakfast!!! (Unless it's at Waffle House!) Scaparri
^That post just brightened my crummy day a little. I also am not a breakfast person. I'm just never hungry in the morning. I'm another person who will only eat breakfast if it's at Waffle House! Cracker Barrel does the trick too. I love a good country breakfast. Keep up the good work, Robb! Your buffalo wing eating reminded me that if you ever go to BW's or anything like that, get the hottest/spiciest food you can handle! Spicy foods burn more calories because they require more energy to digest! That's a fun little fact I learned a few weeks ago. Doin' good, dude! coasterdude5
30 lbs. in 30 days is awesome! As far as swimming goes, I wish I liked swimming more because that would probably be GREAT for me. But really the only swimming I would ever do is probably in a water park. Doing any kind of monotonous exercise bores the hell out of me. Haha, try doing laps for 2 1/2 hours 6 days a week! I only made it for two years...
cfc
Good work, Robb--from one who's been on the weight-loss/weight-gain yoyo ride for years. Going vegetarian for one meal a day (lunch or dinner) seems to work for me (but I've been off the diet wagon lately).
RaptorBoyASU
I forced myself to have breakfast this morning and it was awful. French toast sticks, bacon, and apple juice. For some reason all of that food is gross to me. I would prefer pizza, chicken, or wings in the morning over french toast and bacon. If that's the case, why limit yourself to breakfast foods? I often have a turkey sandwich or something similar for breakfast. Outside of cereal, I've never been a huge fan of breakfast food.
stingrock23
Good luck with everything. What gets me is the alcohol, I really need to go easy on the beer, at least for a while. It's not so easy when it's football season.
thefitness
I'm glad I'm not the only "Non-Breakfast" person out there. I'm still in awe that you've lost this much weight already, keep it up! Guy T. Koepp
Double King Burger with chili, cheese, bacon, and egg for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Round it out with a nice side of chili cheese fries and a large chocolate shake, and you have a meal fit for any true weight loss program, any time of the day. Any day of the week. Watch the pounds just melt away!
AllenA07
A few years ago with food I went on the In and Out 4x4 diet. Due to stress and time from school, I ended up cutting food out of my diet. When I was finally done at school for the day (often late at night) I'd go by In and Out, but a 4x4, fries, and a soda, and eat it. I ended up actually losing about 30 pounds on this diet. However to be fair, by the time I put an end to it, I was starting to feel terrible all the time.
rbpia
Great job so far Robb! I need to do this as well. Then I need to quit smoking and not put the weight back on. I am about to quit drinking pop to get myself started. Which flavors of the Crystal Light packets do you like? coasterdude5
^ You can have nearly anything you want, as long as you eat/drink it in moderation. Try the half-sized cans of Mt. Dew (I'm not sure if they have those yet), or just drink half a can instead. I've gone to almost all diet/zero sodas but now with what Elissa said I might need to reconsider. RonFrost
Some schools of dietary thought believe that eating breakfast "kick starts" your metabolism for the day. Eating early gets your body burning calories, which in theory would continue throughout the day. Starting it a 8am as opposed to noon would therefore give you an extra 4 hours of burn. I don't usually eat breakfast myself, so I cannot personally attest to the accuracy of that theory.

robbalvey
Which flavors of the Crystal Light packets do you like? I really like both of the lemonade flavors - the normal one and I think it's raspberry. Fruit Punch is also really good. Not sure if it's just that I'm a creature of habit, but I tried some of the new ones and just didn't like them as much. Not that I mind them, but I love the lemonade flavors. --Robb
IggyACE
The Peach Tea is fantastic.^ I cut out pop a couple years ago ( only drank water, milk and OJ) and lost 15 pounds that summer. I was a two liter a day pop drinker! NOw back to a couple cans a day which is too much. Craig
