Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - 70th Anniversary events and lineup announced!

Speaking of Disney Parks not being PC enough, do any of y'all suspect that Jungle Cruise will ever be edited due to the ride's barbaric portrayal of the African natives?

I am personally not offended by it but I could totally see some controversy in the near future.

^ No. I'm no historian but I'm fairly certain headhunters were and still are a very real thing in the world.

If anything gets a complaint on Jungle Cruise it'd be the repeated violent anal pillaging of that poor camper by the rhino.

Man, if they could see a lot of the UN-PC stuff that goes on over in Europe, from Scandinavia and everything south of it.... no contest, really.

The Jungle Cruise is honestly, a faint whisper of what's "un-pc". And I thought their "war" dance was changed to a "Welcome Dance" for

these explorers? Correct me, if wrong. Or maybe they brought it back!

Since they added the gun back a few years ago, I would guess that there won't be any more changes to Jungle Cruise coming from political correctness.

Autopia has re-opened with its Honda sponsorship after a big refurb. It looks and rides great! Almost all the cars have been repainted and sparkle like they were brand new. The ride marquee has a fresh new logo. The queue and loading area have all been re-painted with the recent Tomorrowland blue-grey-white scheme. Didn't see any changes to the ride track itself. Still has the winding paths and the off-road section near Matterhorn.

Opinions vary across the different versions of this ride found at the different Disney resorts around the world, but Disneyland's Autopia remains an entertaining & fun ride for families to enjoy together with the swerve of the kid behind the wheel. For what it is, this new refurb and sponsorship have Autopia looking very nice. IMO, it's a vast improvement from where the disaster of the '98 Tomorrowland and subsequent years of simply keeping the ride open had left it.

Some photos from yesterday taken with my new Galaxy S7:

New-looking marquee!

Not many huge structural or procedural changes to Autopia's loading area, but it's all been repainted and freshened up like new.

The electronic billboard works again, and shows an awesome retro-future transportation video montage. Looks like the content could have been taken from old Tomorrowland-centered episodes of the Disneyland TV series. Couldn't hear anything from it though.

Love little touches like the "Autopia" on the spare tire shell on the back. Also notice the Honda license plate frame with clever plate number.

There appears to be a "standard body" to the Autopia cars again, which is great. Here's the view of the car ahead. Remember, no bumping!

Look Ma, I'm a Honda driver! The new hood ornament logo will confirm that.

My shiny new red car really popped in the springtime afternoon sun.

The stunning realism of their LA traffic effects never ceases to amaze me.

Here's a new sponsor banner to stare at at the conclusion of your ride. Great to see Autopia now looking and running better than it has in quite a few years!

I've always thought Autopia and the Subs are giant wastes of space that could easily fit two E-ticket show buildings in the future (see what I did there...), but it's nice to see Autopia get some love while it is still here.

JUST IN: California Screamin' ride halted after rider whips out selfie stick

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/california-screamin-ride-stuck-disneyland-top-377889501.html?_osource=SocialFlowTwt_LABrand

Riders were apparently stuck on the California Screamin' ride Monday at California Adventure, the sister park next to Disneyland, after someone took out a selfie stick and the ride was halted.

The riders were apparently escorted off the ride by 6 p.m.

Disneyland officials said someone whipped out a selfie stick, which are banned from the park and rides.

The riders were stuck for about 20 minutes, Disneyland officials said.

Disneyland officials said the ride is stopped any time a selfie stick is taken out.

The ride was to resume shortly after evacuating riders.

^ Excellent! Glad to hear they're enforcing the policy with an iron fist. If they let it go other people would follow suit and it'd be a "rule" only in print. Kinda like any Six Flags policies.

Gonna be unmeasurably sad if the GotG rumor for Tower is true.

For me it comes down to how well-done the makeover and new story is. When the rumors started I didn't think it could be true, but now they're saying that they've been testing overnight for months, so I suppose it may really be happening (and they're saying May next year to coincide with the movie premiere to happen at DCA).

No. No. Just no. ToT is literally the most perfect ride. Easily my favorite attraction ever. I can't get enough of the theming and atmosphere of the attraction either.

Wasn't GotG relatively a bit a flop, anyways?

Well Disney is a master at promotion. So if they can promote Guardians of the Galaxy part 2 and a 'new' revamped Tower of Terror ride at DCA, then you can bet it will happen. Both will gets (((lots))) of news coverage and be a boom to the movie as well as DCA. Besides the back corner of that park could use some improvement, Marvel would be a welcome addition.

GotG cost $232 million and made $773 million. The next movie will most likely make more money because no one knew whom the Guardians of the Galaxy were when the first movie came out but the characters are now household names.

Ugh! I absolutely love the Twilight Zone aspect of the Tower of Terror. I would much rather prefer they just call the ride "Tower of Terror" and drop the "Twilight Zone" stuff, change it up ever so slightly, then call it a day. It's not like the thing isn't already popular or not have lines the way it is.

Not only that, I thought Guardians of the Galaxy really was a lousy overrated flick. I get it, they could market it and make it popular, doesn't mean it'll be any good.

There really ISN'T that much "Twilight" stuff in the ride anyway. From what I recall in the Disneyland version there is the opening video, the voice during the ride, and that's pretty much it. Unless I'm missing something? The rest of the ride and theming is pretty generic "hotel ride" type stuff.

Why does it seem some of my absolute favorite things of so many parks have to go away or be changed.

Guardians was a huge hit when it came out, and was very well received to boot. I don't know why people assume otherwise. The 2017 sequel has a decent shot at grossing over a billion dollars worldwide even.

I don't have an issue with a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction necessarily, I just find shoehorning it into Tower of Terror that's the weird part. How do you turn the Hollywood Hotel into the location of a space opera?

The incorporation of the marvel characters into the resort has been really poor quality and devoid of inspiration so far. This Tower of Terror concept is a sad continuation of that trend.
