Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - 70th Anniversary events and lineup announced!

Recommended Posts

I watched the special, just for the theme park info. Very little new info, they showed the concept art that has been floating around for a bit. They did show what looked like a concept rendering for a SW boat ride, as rumored before. The Mil. Falcone attraction really does sound like Mission Space. Maybe Space crossed with TSMM, where you keep score?

The "Boat Ride" doesn't seem like a boat ride, but more of a track less vehicle ride. In the video it looks like the vehicle spins around. I wonder if they would be using screens or real life audio animatronics.

Also I remember seeing somewhere that they would possible have "cast members" dressed up walking around so you really feel more immersed in the world.

I am hoping for it. A boat ride doesn't make sense.

Also, to KingRCT3, the boat ride idea came from an interview with Jon Snoddy, Disney EVP of Imagineering. He was discussing Star Wars Land at CES and described a new ride as “unprecedented, in a way”. And then he continued to say the following: “It will be a boat ride where the boats are controlled down to millimeters to precisely align them frame by frame to this ILM giant projection that will be able to determine where peoples’ eyes are to give a sense of depth in 3D.”

Now, most people think he was actually talking about the Avatar Boat Ride because that was actually announced, and a Star Wars boat ride wasn't. And I agree, I do not think there will be a boat ride when the new land opens. I think he was just excited about everything and was just talking about what he liked. Not that it was connected to Star Wars.

Ha ok, thanks for the recap!

As a big fan of squinching, I'm thrilled (as long as screen are mixd with physical elements, and animatronics!).

By the way, this technic of image distortion has been developed by Scott Trowbridge (for Spider-Man, of course), and this man is now working on Star Wars land. That is no coincidence.

Perhaps 5 years from now when this project is nearing completion, these photos will be reposted to remind us that we were initially awakened by these first photos of glorious dirt.

This will be a great project to follow thru the years, I look forward to future updates like these!

Dude! What a great way to break open the SWL photo update! With things the way they are now!

It's gonna be AMAZING to see how things change over the next couple years, and photos like this are going to be fun to compare.

Thanks to the guy who took time to share them, and then thanks for sharing them here. It's going to be interesting to see how things change.

Dirt! Hey, guys! There's dirt!

Not just any dirt... DISNEY DIRT!!! OMGGGGGG

Disney does not have "dirt." Disney has "pixie dust."

I'm surprised they haven't started selling limited editions of that. They'd make a killing!

^ Just wait. Once it's open they'll be selling dirt in mason jars labeled "Tatooine Dirt" and "Jakku Dirt." Also they'll re-sell the charcoal from the dining areas as "Anakin Skywalker's Recovered Remains From Mustafar." Kinda dark but hey, money's money.

Hey, Disney, I want a share of these profits since I just gave you the idea.

You joke, but if Disney sold bottles of sand from the different Star Wars planets, they would probably make a killing.

Tatooine (tan), Geonosis (red), Hoth (snow), Asteroid Field dust (gray)...

And soon over at POTC the "I've got a jar of dirt" dirt from Dead Man's Chest.
