Best And Worst Things Ever

Recommended Posts

Best- riding Alpengeist 7 times after the park closed cause nobody would get in line for the back row, and chanting "AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN" as the train returned was effective.

Or riding Loch Ness Monster over and over without having to get up in the rain about 11 times.

Worst- riding Thunderhawk. No more needs be said.

Both are from this summer, working in Linnanmäki.

Best: Working a day as a "back-up dad". Basically, I rode rides with kids whose moms or dads didnt dare to ride the rides, but still needed a parent to ride with them. I was that guy. Basically, I rode rides 11 hours and got paid for it!

Worst: Working a day in Miniature Carousel. It's allowed only for kids under 140cm or 4,5 feet, parents aren't allowed to ride. As you can guess, many kids started to cry after being separated from their parents when the ride started. But what really got on my nerves was the stupid parents who jumped over the fences and came through the entrance and exit gates leaving them open, which resulted as kids running to the ride area without any control. Meanwhile the ride still operated! This lasted for 11 hours...

BEST:

Watching Tinker Bell get stuck on the zip line from Cinderalla's Castle during the nightly fireworks show at WDW-MK August 2006. The best part was finding out later that evening from a Cast Member-friend that Tinker Bell was being played by a dude that night.

Riding Montu without MCBR July 1996

Riding The Beast unbraked, URC Event, May 2001

Filming of Discovery Channel's "The Making of a Coaster" on Lightning Racer, 2001

First ride on The Voyage, back seat, no white knuckles...pure bliss.

WORST

Kingda Ka eating my cell phone.

Batwing eating a friend's cell phone that was in my pocket.

Getting food poisoning after eating at a Cedar Fair park...we'll let this park go nameless

Witnessing Wild One's fan lift (I think that's what it was called) break just moments after the first Official Ride on Two Face. I swear this must have been an omen. Here's a link for the old lift mechanism http://www.rcdb.com/148.htm?p=6232

Having a bird poop on me while riding Python at Busch-Tampa. Right smack in the face and I didn't realize what it was until I looked at my sleeve getting off the ride.

Best: Being able to ride Bizarro at SFGAdv a total of 8 times in on media day plus ride El Toro and Nitro at least twice each.

Worst: Standing on line for The Dark Knight Coaster (a year before the Bizarro thing) for at least 75 minutes next to a couple of guys who keep grabbing each other's butts.

Best - 3 week trip in Orlando in August 09. Spent 13 days at WDW, 3 at Universal (including riding HRRR on it's second day,) and got to hit 4 others parks along the way (SFKK, SFOG, Beech Bend and Old Town.) There was rush the entire time except for SFOG in the morning. It was a nice relaxing pace.

- My first ride on The Beast the night before Ride Warriors Weekend this last May. It was dark (no moon to be seen due to clouds) and pouring rain. The ride was ultra smooth and insane. I have never had a greater ride on any roller coaster before or since.

Worst - Hurting my heal at SF Great America last October. My foot was hurting a small bit before I got there, but the day was only being used for photos of Mardi Gras area. I stepped wrong getting of King Chaos and hurt my ankle. After hobbling over to first aid (which there is no short cut and on the other side of the park) I told them the problem. I only wanted some ice and the guys response is "and? We can't do anything here, we don't have an X-Ray machine." All I asked for was ice and got yelled at. I e-mailed guest services and never got a response.

- Kiddieland closing day. Not only was it a sad day, but parents were encoring their kids to cut lines. Even worse was the parents that chose not tell their kids the rides would be closing during the day, only for the kids to find out without a last ride.

That was a good thing?

How did they get him down?

I'd be afraid for the person stuck up there.

Worst: Waiting on my last night at Disneyland for Space Mountain to open at 11PM. The ride op/greeter at front promises up and down that it will re open. 11:30PM...ride op is called back. 11:50PM...ride op returns saying it will re open and we will get a ride in.

12:10AM....ride op tells us it won't re open. Not only did I miss out on a last ride on Space Mountain, I wasted my last hour at Disneyland. It was a BIG group waiting, too...I'm surprised we weren't given any compensation for the false hope.

Best: ERT on TPR trips.

Best: Getting on all the coasters at Cedar Point (except Woodstock Express and Jr. Gemini) and a number of additional rides in one day.

Worst: Waiting three hours in line for X2 at Magic Mountain then having it break down while in the station. I didn't even end up riding it but it was 1:30 by the time the rest of my group got off and we had been in line ten minutes after opening.

Close second: Waiting two hours for Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point due to four rollbacks and a fifteen minute closure to transfer a fifth train onto the track. Not all bad however because listening to people betting if the next train would make it over was fun and the ride ended up being my second favorite coaster at Cedar Point (after Maverick).

Worst:

Basketballs, especially ones that roll away (deliberately) from those bouncing them, aimless unsupervised kids, ranging from toddlers to 10-year-olds, undecided riders who block the queue entrance figuring out if they want to ride (or even talk about the weather for that matter), slow ride ops on a busy day, ride downtime during the peak season (especially if it's your favorite),and the obvious - line jumpers.

Best: Multiple re-rides without leaving your seat, walk-ons, discounted souvenirs, speedy ride ops on busy days, 2-train operation, and all rides are running.

worst: 12 minutes of topspin intense programm, due to castmembers riding while I was and ride ops thinking it would be funny. (never liked topspins since)

best: Efteling with all rides open, sunny weather and no waiting!!

Worst: Having my pocket picked and wallet stolen while waiting in line for El Toro, thereby losing the ID I needed to board a plane out of Philly the next day.

Best: Having park security return the wallet with ID intact the morning before the flight.

2nd worst: driving from Knoebel's to SFNE just to ride S:ROS, then finding it closed the whole day.

2nd best: Getting in 13 rides on it the next day.

Best:The feeling I had walking down the exit ramp after riding Patriot at Worlds of Fun. This was my first coaster with inversions. I had a debilitating phobia of inversions for 20+ years. (Seriously, I'd had full on panic attacks waiting in quques in various other attempts to overcome this fear.) Finally beating that phobia was life changing. Now you can't keep me off them! I feel free!

Worst:The closure of Opryland U.S.A. Just thinking about it makes me mad. And now having to drive past a shopping mall and knowing what used to be there is just salt in the wound.

"Hey, listen up everyone: PLB is responding to this, so let's hear what he has to say."

BEST: It happened this season when I was in line to ride FIREHAWK and the queue was very long (hence, a very long wait). I was three rows away from reaching the ride attendant who opens the line to send a crowd of riders to one of the two stations when another ride attendant came up and ask out loud-

"Are there any single riders in this line?"

Since I was a single rider, I raised my hand and was suddenly bumped up out of line and into the station. Even better than that - the spot that needed the single rider was UP IN FRONT!!!

YEE HAW!!!

WORST: Going to Ghost Town in the Sky in 2007 and only riding four lousy rides: the skyride going up, scrambler, the Yo-Yo swing ride, and the skyride going down (all the other rides were either down, still being built, or not suitable for an adult to ride). Tell me this: was this worth the $27 I paid for admission? Made me wish I was back in Dollywood.

worst: 12 minutes of topspin intense programm, due to castmembers riding while I was and ride ops thinking it would be funny. (never liked topspins since)

Oh no. I randomly remembered the other day that crazy YouTube video where the Top Spin goes for like 100+ flips. I don't think I would survive. Though it's awesome that it CAN do that.

Best: Breakdown on Top Thrill Dragster in front row. We didn't launch and I was stuck for maybe 20 minutes while the mechanics came out and such. But then when we did launch our train got a roaring ovation upon returning to the station. So that was kind of cool.

Worst: Wasting an hour in line to ride the SLC at Six Flags New England instead of riding Superman.

Also kind of best/worst was a two-day visit to Six Flags over Georgia with my dad. We were in town for a Phillies/Braves matchup and the first day it rained like hell so some of the rides closed, but I did manage to marathon Batman, Cyclone, GASM, etc. The next day the weather sucked too but again there were no crowds and I got to talk to one of the managers while waiting for Deja Vu to open. Also got a ride on Acro by myself (my dad passed). Too bad Superman didn't open until two weeks later.

  • 3 weeks later...

Best: The wife and I having Disney Sea to ourselves during school finals. Rode Indy a couple of times with the car to ourselves, as well as Journey to the Center.

Worst: Being stuck on Terminator with no shade in about 100 weather.
