2Old4Coasters
"Variety is the spice of life". To keep from getting burned out, you have to mix it up. Otherwise, yeah, the fun wears off. Yet, the enthusiast in me is always scheming to get to that park I haven't visited or on that coaster I haven't ridden. So, I guess that's how I keep it fresh, knowing that I have these things to look forward to. Jim
imbordisux
Not so much parks as a whole, but we've really gone cold on SFGAdv lately; when we started dating two years ago, we went every three weeks or so. However, this year, we really started getting down on it for the following reasons: 1) It's possibly the most over-crowded park ON EARTH, with ridiculous waits for EVERYTHING. Combine that with the questionable operations of some rides, and you spend most of the day on line. 2) Everything is terribly over-priced, which, while normal for corporate parks, is even worse here, as the long waits and excessive walking cause you to want to eat and drink more. 3) There are usually several rides down at any given time; Kingda Ka is obvious, but Rolling Thunder, Freefall, and Skull Mountain are down also down a lot, Chiller has more or less been running one side for several seasons, and El Toro has been a nightmare. 4) The drive from Long Island is treacherous; I can't tell you how many times this trip, which should only take about two hours, has taken double or even TRIPLE the amount of time. We still love the park, and it still has, in our view, our favorite collection of rides, but we don't dare go during the Summer anymore. If you live far away, and are wondering whether it's worth a trip, definitely do it, but not during the Summer.
canada
Thing is.. I got obssessed with coasters the first time I ever went to an amusement park (last july..i kno!!) I used to go around twice sometimes even 3 times a WEEK last year. Then this year I went twice in may, twice in june and 5 times in july. I havent been there since. It's a little weird how someone could love something to the point that he goes every other day.. then in an instant, not wanna go anymore at all! I remember the last days I was into coasters..I was telling my friend man!!! I miss la ronde ywanna go? Then he said nah well go next week.. when next week came I didnt wanna go anymore. I realised I wasnt into coasters a random day when one part of my mind said wanna go to la ronde? The other, which would always say hell yeah, said: meh... ebl
I don't travel very much, so when you ride the same rides over and over, you get tired of them. Another thing, I've lost almost 80 lbs. from my highest weight, so I don't have the "padding" to guard against the slamming of some rides. That's a real turn off. And I'll join some of the others in saying that you have to have other things in your life. I've learned that, too. My interest is still there; otherwise why would I be here? It's just not eating, drinking, sleeping, breathing roller coasters anymore. Eric
Shockwave
I've gotten a bit tired of gong to the same old places again and again, so I try to keep things varied and go to new places to keep my interest.
rollermonkey
I'm actually moving in the opposite direction as Elissa. (Nothing unusual there, eh?) I've been in the US Navy for 15 years now, and lived outside the US for the past six years. (2 in Italy, 1 in Bahrain and 3 in Japan.) Now I'm going to be in the US for more than two weeks for the first time since 1999 and I'm really excited about checking out a lot of the construction that's occured while I've been gone. (I have been to a few parks in the US in the past few years, but there's been so much new stuff!) Like other people said, I too, have other hobbies, and that helps keep coasters fresh since that isn't the only thing I'm into.
ginzo
I get the burn out sometimes by the end of an amusement park trip where I'm gone for a few days. This only lasts a week or so. I've found that going to the same park over and over is seriously bad for burn out. It's much better to visit new places. Then again, this is really my first season of travelling outside my home park. I have yet to burn out on everything within driving distance even. There's a lot of big parks I haven't hit yet. When I go to a new park I get to ride ~3-15ish new coasters. It's a lot easier to get excited about that than just whatever new one they built this year. Sir Clinksalot
This year was definately a kind of "non-coaster" year for us. I mean, the interest is still there but these days it's more about just hanging out with cool people. About the only "Coaster Geek" thing I did this year was ride those coasters in the Philippines. And that was just because I happened to pass the park when I was out there. I didn't go looking for it or anything. I mean, we live 45 minutes from Tatsu, I've ridden it a total of 1 time and that was in August. And honestly, it didn't do much for me so if I don't ride it again anytime soon ... oh well. This year our big trip is Florida, but were not going to just ride coasters. No old-town, cypress, etc. Next year we are planning on going back to PA/NJ/VA for about a week, but were not doing 'just' coasters. Were only doing major parks (Knoebels, Hershey, SFGADV, BGE) and spending alternating days doing regular touristy stuff (Philly, DC, etc). We will be in the area of SFA but honestly, the park doesn't interest me so who knows if we will even get there. I'm not going to drive 2 hours out of my way to get a kiddie credit or anything. Not that we ever really did that anyway. So to answer your question ... yes it happens, and it's okay. It's good to have more than one interest in life, your life can't just be "Coasters, Coasters, Coasters". Eventually you will get sick of them. disneyfan1313
As with anything in life its all about balance! I've only ever done a few marathon coaster days and I found myself wishing I had taken the time to explore the other things in the park. Stacey and I are more of theme park geeks than coaster geeks so we would rather go on a dark ride, see a show or try weird local food than get a crappy credit. If it is a good credit...than that is another story!
mr_teisco_delrey
I am really into the parks now since I am getting to take my kids. I think I have more fun watching my kids than riding. Other than WDW, Discovery Cove, and BGA, I try not to repeat parks. That is how I keep from getting burned out.
FlyingScooter
My kids and I had season passes for SFWOA. We did this for 3 yrs, and yeah, we got fairly burned out on the place. After a while, the only thing we did was watch the shows on animal side.
okinawaboy11
When were talking about interest it makes me think of something else. But yes, I have felt this way. I went to SFA about 6 times in one month, yeah I got bored...fast.
RCfanatic
A couple of times last winter during off-season i felt like i dindn't care for coasters anymore, but that never lasted long. I have only been a coaster enthousiasth for 2 years now and i hope i never get bored of it, its a great hobby, really something i can enjoy! (for example, you can't "ride" stamps ) I do understand people who get tired of their home parks, i'm also slowly starting to get tired of Walibi Belgium even thow its a great park (but i'll sure be there when the new coaster is finished!). If you really love coasters but are bored of them, just wait a (few) month(s) and you'll start wanting them back eventually.
GMAN962
Well when I went to magic mountain for a full day, got on almost everything coaster wise, except like; X, Dejavu, Revolution, golaith. THen, 3 days later, I went again. Got on all the same rides, but this time I got on goliath, and dejavu. When you go that often for full days, you've had your fix for a while, but I'm into coasters again.
tacoking
Living about 50 miles east of Orlando, I don't get bored. Universal and Islands of Adventure are the two parks I visit most, and occasionally I do find myself getting bored - but when that happens I will just go spend a couple days at one of the other parks. Then the time will come around that I crave some Mummy or Incredible Hulk, and I find myself back at the Universal parks. There was about a 6-8 month span where I lost interest a little bit in coasters. Still participated in the online talk, but didn't really venture out to any parks. That interest was sparked back up with SheiKra last year, and here I am today.
KingOfNynex2003
i know exactly how u feel, i live in Vancouver and i live near Playland at the PNE and over the past few years i've been getting bored by the rides that they have there, but this year i went over 2 Magic Mountain 2 go on2 that new coaster they opened up this year and my love of coasters returned, maybe if u go over 2 those parks u'll renew your interest in coasters again. let me know how it goes if u go 2 those parks. thomas2
Yeah I also had this feeling. I was fed up with Walibi Belgium, but I went anyway. Not a good idea... But now I just love coasters again
Hurricane
^ I'll ask Zaney to post about this one... as I think he can tell my story better about how fed up I was with theme parks at one stage... ... Lets just say it got to a point for about 3 days, where ANYONE that talked about theme parks was blocked for the day, I just got that annoyed, now i'm back in FULL swing
jason10
Well it happened in just one day with me. I went to Thorpe Park on sunday and we had the best day ever but at the end of the day I had ridden everything like 5 times. For e.g. I rode Colosus 6 times because throughout the day it only had a 5 min Q-time. Every single ride had like a 5 min Q-time even Stealth!!!!!!! At the end of the day I was realy coastered out. I went upside down 86 times and went on like 30 rides!
bgwfreak
I never get tired of coasters. I do however sometimes get tired of the coaster community. Not at large, but the few bad apples get on my nerves some days. I mean how many times can we discuss "What do you think CP is getting next year? "
coasterboy76
the only thing that burns me out now is the park itself. I will always love coasters, but as I get older, the time I spend in the park seems to grow shorter and shorter. my view was ever since I was a teen that-- when you go to Six Flags, you get there when it opened, and you didnt leave till the park announced that it was closing for the night. that way you got your moneys worth and you had tons-o-fun! now it seems like I get out there still when the park opens, but I am ready to go home like 3 oclock. I try to do at least 2 circuts on the coaters, and maybe a ride or 2 on something other than a coaster. and that is my day. my legs don't walk as fast as they used too! lol... Im heading out to Six Flags STL today, for the last visit of the season, have my camera all ready to go, going to do a big trip report! be sure to check for it tonight!
