Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2038: Top Thrill 2 reopens on May 3rd!

Recommended Posts

I think Iron Streak would be the best solution for CP. Retracting MS every year costs a lot in the long run, park guests aren't eating it up like at other coasters, CP doesn't need to use more space for it and MS will put another great coaster to the already good coaster line up.

Mean Streak still has it's fans, the 45 minutes line I saw one afternoon was very different from "2 people in each train throughout the afternoon" And the crew was running 3 trains efficiently. But among all the major coasters, people will probably miss it the least if it is gone.

I remember getting a walk on for Mean Streak a couple years ago, and it ran okay. Not the worst coaster I went on, but then again, I don't think Grizzly at CGA is that bad.

No it wasn't rough at all, I enjoyed the ride. But MS just isn't as good as the other coasters at the park.

I agree with this. Plus they can go for some more "est's" for the ride type to market. They have to know they have a gem sitting back there whenever they want to pull the trigger for RMC to come work their magic.

Shut it down early, it is an isolated ride so work could be done during the operating season.

I agree. It wasn't a generally very rough ride, even in the back, but it does have some spots which could use some work. Compared to the others in the park, it just doesn't have the same amount of excitement.

As for the video, it looks nice, fits the existing layout well, but I really don't see it being something the park would do. Too many inversions and doesn't stay true to it's former layout. Plus I would think the park would want to keep the block brake where it is so they wouldn't have much stacking.

It would be very interesting to see what people said about rides like Mean Streak if they were in a different park. If for example Mean Streak and Shivering Timbers switched parks.

I think it would be appreciated more, but I think enthusiasts would still rip on it. I think there are probably a considerable amount of CP fans that would take that trade XD

Yeah, regarding the layout itself, I like it a lot. I don't think it needs two stalls, though. I think more airtime there would be sufficient. The double roll finale is really cool also. And again regarding the capacity, CP would probably elect to keep the MCBR, so it can still run three trains if it needs to.

I love the dive loop! But I would miss the over-the-lift turn. Overall, a really cool design!

Let's talk about a conversion that's actually happening. Rougarou is going to be quite the addition to Cedar Point. Always wanted the park to go with a floorless, and I never liked the Stand up design. Add a B&M Dive Machine next year, and Cedar Point is giving us a lot of new reasons to come back (as if Maverick wasn't enough)

Curious if it'll be on Fast Lane Plus. Surely it'll be more popular, but it's very high capacity with three trains and might not produce quite the following of those on FL+ (Dragster, Maverick, GateKeeper).

Also, in my experience, GateKeeper really has no need to be on plus. That ride has really impressive capacity. I'd be perfectly fine with just Dragster and Maverick on plus.

Are the bumper cars being removed as well?

Looking at the live webcam, the dodgem sign has been removed and the lights are on. Plus there are several work trucks and a dumpster parked next to it. Also, Tony just tweeted this shot and said "so bright and so peaceful" if that means anything.

If I had a nickel for each time a park took down a ride sign for winterizing or periodic refurbishment, I'd be a millionaire. Parks will also take advantage of large covered areas for storage or work space for additional off-season maintenance areas. In addition, nearby sheltered places make great temporary work areas for construction crews (perhaps the company removing the old theater?). Before jumping to any conclusions, I'll make an educated guess that these are the most likely reasons for that amount of activity at Dodgem.

But really, I wouldn't read too much into a Dodgem removal just yet. Unless there is another "Wildcat Scenario" I highly doubt the ride would be removed without replacement for 2015. Perhaps it could fall onto the chopping block as Cedar Point moves forward with that area of the park, but I do not see that happening this soon if it were to happen.

Interesting. It does seem like something different is going on there, but crew members have already started being hired for the "Matterhorn Triangle" (Matterhorn, Scrambler, Dodgem) for this season and I don't believe any of them have been informed of a 1/3 reduction in job responsibilities.

Relax everybody. They just use the dogem building as a temporary maintenance shed during the off season. They do this every year.

Tony just responded to this on twitter. He said the whole building is getting refreshed. Yes, they do use it as storage/maintenance in the winter, but they did not put the walls up around it this year.

I was wondering when they were going to refurbish that old Dodgem building. That one was the newer of the two Dodgems, built in 1970. The original one, which was about where TTD's tower currently stands, was torn down in 2001 and the cars moved to Michigan's Adventure. Those 40 cars I believe were purchased in 1967, if I remember correctly. I did hear MiAd was looking to replace those cars finally because the past couple of seasons, there's been less and less cars and a lot of them no longer working.

While I don't think Cedar Point would be replacing their cars anytime soon, the building though could of used some work. I wouldn't doubt though that some ADA upgrades are part of the Dodgem refurb as well since most of those upgrades in 2013 were kind of shoe-horned in for the bumper car rides since most of them in the chain were built way before ADA was a thing.
