Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2038: Top Thrill 2 reopens on May 3rd!

Recommended Posts

Cedar Point doesn't have a problematic clientele. There are quite a few parks out there that don't have metal detectors.

I can see that, the general public was very nice to myself and my fiancee. That's us pictured I was surprised, because I had heard the reputation for people with fast lane passes...and we had some custom shirts made just for our visit, which included that we are from Texas on it, but okay, I get it, it was a lot more of friendlier environment. At SFOT, or any Six Flags for that matter, it seems it's more of a teenage babysit location that happens to have rides.

^No offense, but SFOT had the worst clientele of any park I've ever experienced. It was really, really awful. In fact, it was so bad that near the end of the night, a group of guests got into a fist fight with the Fast Lane Attendant at Texas Giant. To add to the mess, the controls operator was looking down at it and filling the guests in the station in with cuss-word-laden updates. Needless to say, we stopped by Guest Services on our way out.

Is Mean Streak REALLY as rough as people make it out to be? I've heard people say "it's the roughest coaster ever" and I've heard people say that it was fairly smooth.

I rode Mean Streak around 10 times this year and It's NOT as rough as people say. Really I don't think it's very rough at all (for a wooden coaster), I just find the layout of Mean Streak VERY BORING. That's why I'd love for it to get Iron Horsed.

Mean Streak is much smoother than Blue Streak if you ride in the front of any car and keep your back off of the seat back. It's a stupid way to ride a coaster though and it's a pretty boring ride.

I'd love for them to Iron Horse it but I'd be okay with it if they leave it alone too. It's a little dull but I still enjoy it and the ride itself is beautiful to look at. It's probably the most visually appealing coaster I've ever seen.

I've posted this video before but it was on my old account. I deleted it off of that one and made a separate account just for my amusement park videos. If you haven't seen this yet feel free to watch and share! Let me know what you think; I always enjoy constructive criticism.

It is a beautiful coaster but if rmc could do something like a crossover between Texas giant and medusa it could be the greatest rmc revamp ever.

Sounds like it could be great. Hopefully that isn't that next coaster related Cedar Point does, though. America's Rockin' Roller Coast needs an epic NEW coaster.

The people who enjoy mean streak are probably the ones who enjoy a few beers in the park first. I rode it probably 25 times throughout the summer and the ride is the bad kind of bad. Theres no reward for your suffering either.

This is funny!! lol

You don't think an Iron Horsed Mean Streak would be epic?? I honestly don't see what else CP could put in that would top the prospect of an RMC conversion of Mean Streak. They already have pretty much everything, except a 4D which I highly doubt they'd ever put in.

They also haven't put in a flyer as well

Doesn't help. Maybe I've only caught Mean Streak on bad days, but I have NEVER had an experience on that ride that didn't ruin my day. I'm a HUGE fan of coasters people traditionally call "too rough" too. I LOVE old Arrow coasters. Corkscrew? Vortex? Drachen Fire? GASM? I love them! I also like other "bad" coasters, including every stand-up I've ever been on. I've never met a woodie I didn't like either (or at least, not one I disliked… I've been on plenty of "meh" coasters).

That said, if I never ride Mean Streak again, I will be fine with that. It's a different kind of "rough" to "head banger" rough, it's that "vibrate your whole body until your brains are scrambled" kind of rough. It's the kind of rough that makes me need to sit down for a bit after. It's the kind of rough that makes me nauseas, like that "heat headache with nausea" feeling. The first time I rode it, myself and my whole group were down for the count for over an hour after.

The second time I rode it, I thought sitting first row might help. It didn't.

The third time I rode, I thought a few beers before might help. It didn't.

I've since stopped riding Mean Streak. Once per visit used to be WAY too many times, and now I don't even waste my time with that heap of garbage. If there was even ONE redeeming quality of it, I'd suck it up, but if any coaster could use an Iron Horse treatment, that's it. The only other treatment I think that would help it is a wrecking ball.

Apologies to anyone who loves this ride. As a fan of unpopular coasters, I feel for you, but damn if I can't get behind this one.

It looks like I am part of the minority in that I enjoy Mean Streak. I've never once had a bad experience while riding the coaster. I figure that some people will say that I am lying when I say that but it is true. I can understand when people say that it is rough but I do not find it bad. Yes, there are a few spots that aren't the most comfortable but I can't find it being terrible. A coaster that I seem to never have a good experience on is Corkscrew. That coaster is just painful; especially coming out of the loop and out of the second corkscrew. Another coaster that I can't stand is Mean Streak's neighbor, Maverick. People seem to praise over that coaster and I just don't get it. In my opinion it is in too tight of a space and therefore it hurts. The thing that gets me the most is that the lap bar is always stapled down on my legs by the end of the ride no matter how hard I try to keep it from doing that. I could ride Mean Streak all day and say that I enjoyed it better than if I ride Maverick even just once.

I am with you on this! I've suffered in pain much more on Maverick than Mean Streak over the years. I've only gotten hurt on Mean Streak once, but every time I ride Maverick, I'm in horrible pain from all of the head banging. I dread that second launch, as everything after that point is absolutely miserable. I WANT to like Maverick, I really do, but I just can't.

I have to agree, Maverick is an incredibly agressive coaster. However, it also has an intensity to justify it. Mean Streak on the other hand is just rough with absolutely no fun parts. In fact, the only fun thing about Mean Streak is looking at it.

I would love to see RMC overhaul it. It would no doubt be one of the most incredible coasters on earth. However, Im not really sure if it will happen any time soon. They are clearly removing Good Time Theater for a new attraction and my gut tells me the adjacent car ride is on the chopping block. That opens up some primo coaster building space (or possibly primo dark ride building space).

I think we can all agree that Cedar Point isn't going to ignore RMC. Cedar Point needs a woodie on par with El Toro (since its well established that the streaks don't cut it). Maybe the idea of a custom RMC woodie in the Good Time Theater spot isn't so crazy. Afterall, Goliath wasn't exactly built on a huge plot of land.

^Same here. I rarely get neck chopped on Maverick, because I find myself leaning into turns without reminding myself to do it. The only time I got neck-chopped hard was on my very first ride coming out of the launch, and it was because I wasn't expecting that quick a transition so fast, but since then, I just anticipate it, and I'm fine. I'm just naturally a more defensive rider, and that probably comes from growing up riding a lot of rougher-than-average coasters haha.

Maverick is still not only favorite coaster at Cedar Point, but it's also my #1 steel. I can't get enough of it. It's got great airtime, sick twists and turns, and great pacing in the layout. I can't stop laughing by the end.

I was in the "I don't get Maverick" category until this season. I had two issues that I completely solved after a lot of experimenting:

Headbanging- Hold on to the horse-collar restraint around your head (near your ears), and just hold yourself upright during the transitions. When I do this, the wild laterals are totally thwarted. Like the game Operation, now I don't touch the sides! When I held the lap grips or just put my hands up, my head and body would uncomfortably flail about, but holding on to the horse-collar itself has improved the ride experience dramatically.

Thigh/Butt Stapling - This one is a little bit trickier, and mileage may vary by body type, but I try to give myself a little bit of space in the seat when I first get on the ride. I sit forward while the restraints are being checked, and then I'm able to sit back with some wiggle room once the ride starts. I used to sit as far back as I could, get stapled in, and then my thighs and butt would go through an Intamin-guided tour of hell.

I don't like having to "game plan" before going on a coaster, but Maverick otherwise has so much going for it, that it's worth a few personal adjustments to get the most out of one of the best rides in North America.

I want a new B&M of some kind. I'm all about the capacity for Cedar Point. A brand new Dive Machine would do the trick, and hopefully lower the wait time on my beautiful Maverick.

I'd also rather Cedar Point didn't follow the lead of a certain Gurnee park in another attraction. The Roller Coast needs to lead, not follow

I've never had a serious issue with Mean Streak. I may be in the minority here but I've actually always found it generally smooth for a woodie, especially recently. The park has put a lot of good track work into the ride. Other than that, I feel like it would be way better if Cedar Point just let it run through the course without the trims on the first drop and the mcbr practically stopping the train. Sometimes it just feels too sluggish. I had a trimless ride earlier this year in May after my train got stopped on the lift cause someone had a camera and the first half was surprisingly good. There wasn't much airtime but there was some good speed going around the tops of the hills along with some decent laterals. I wouldn't mind an RMC conversion though. haha
