Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2038: Top Thrill 2 reopens on May 3rd!

^I can go with this idea. I think it would be kinda cool to have a ride like that inside MS and it wouldn't take up room that could be used for a real coaster. The problem is, correct me if I am wrong, they would have to build it tall enough to see over top of Mean Streak.

I was personally never on board with the Dragster idea, but there is a ton of room inside that junkyard. They already have a line setup because Mean Streak's line never hits the switchbacks and could just recycle it. I was there yesterday and could easily see the park constructing one there. My only point is if they were going to build one, it would be a decent location to do so.

Why are people so insistent on building rides within existing rides?

The TTD thing was a ridiculous idea and I laughed at it as much as anyone else. However, if you have been to CP you would understand how large the area inside Mean Streak is and what a waste it is. Unless they renovate it and give people a reason to come back and fill those ques again.

If I remember correctly, it was no more than two years ago that I waited in Mean Streak's switchbacks; almost the entire line was full.

If for any reason a Zacspin was to be built, the one area that I would love to see it would be inside Mean Streak's super structure. Lengthen and widen the entrance to Mean Streak and use some of Mean Streak's enormous queue for the Zacspin and use the junkyard for the location. It is a huge area that would fit perfectly besides being able to see the ride, so naturally it would need heavy advertising in the park.

Cedar Point is going to do something with Mean Streak. They will either go the "Rocky Mountain treatment way" (like NTAG), or tear it down and put in a new coaster back there. Having something else in the queue would be foolish with the new ride or rework of Mean Streak.

^They need to do SOMETHING with Mean Streak. Honestly, I want Cedar Point to tear it down too, but I know it just wont happen. I wanna be hopeful for a New Texas Giant re-do but I don't really see that happening. I would love to be proven wrong.

On a side note, me and 3 friends are heading to the peninsula tomorrow for a VERY hot and sweaty day of fun. Hopefully the near record heat will keep the crowds to a minimum.

^The heat seemed to keep away the crowds at Carowinds last Tuesday when the index was over 114 degrees - not a lot of people there at all. I figured the water park would have been completely over-the-top crowded and even that wasn't bad. Just about every ride (except Nighthawk & the rapids ride) was a walk-on or one ride wait all day.

However, I will agree that CP is a totally different animal. My Dad was trying to book a site at Camper Village (on-site campground) last weekend just to go to Soak City and they told him that they were booked every day for the entire month of July.

We had been thinking about going to CP in August, but think we might wait and go on a Friday during Halloweekends and go to the water park in Cleveland instead of going to Soak City in August.

Am I the only one who laughed?

Anyways, be warned- heat never usually keeps the crowds away at all.

Hahaha I realized that immediately after I posted that. I laughed so I kept it. Also it was sarcasm about the crowds staying away, guess I should've put a smiley in there .

CEDAR POINT TO ADD THRILLING 18th COASTER TO THEIR LINEUP IN 2012

7/20/2011

Sandusky, Ohio

Cedar Point, America's Roller Coast, announced today that it will be unveiling a floorless Aquatrax coaster in the Spring of 2012. Current President and CEO Richard "Dick" Kinzel held a press conference earlier today to inform park followers and industry moguls alike. "I'm pulling the last ace out of my sleeve to shut up these damn enthusiasts", Kinzel said, of the new project. Kinzel is slated to retire after his contract is up in January 2012. Though an official press release was issued, no name was given for the new attraction. A spokesperson from the public relations department had this to say..."Names? No one gives a rat's A$$ about names. We could name this thing Flaming Dog Sh*t and fanboys would still flock halfway around the world to come ride it". The ride will feature 36 passenger trains, traveling a combined 11,700 feet of dueling track, a 165 mile-per-hour launch, a 600ft inverted top hat, and a "splash down" effect in nearby Lake Erie. Flaming Dog Sh*t is expected to headline the park's 2012 season and will replace the park's "Shoot the Rapids" attraction, due to "fanboys wanting a coaster more than 'some dumbass boat ride'".

But do they really need to do something with it? I'll be the first to admit I think the ride sucks and I would love to see some topper track or I-beams on it, but I don't think the park seems a huge motivation to do so. The ride in its current state draws decent crowds (it usually is in the top ten rides - counts wise for the year at the park) and probably would draw more crowds if it wasn't in the very back. A lot of people really like it - we have been on other wooden coasters we know that the grass is greener but to most people Mean Streak is this tall, epic looking ride that shakes you around "like how a wooden coaster should" as my one friend put it. If the rides still draws plenty of rides and for the most part the public enjoys (maybe not loves, but doesn't hate) the ride in its current state then why spend loads of money to change it?

I kind of agree with you here, I would love to see them do a rehab on the ride and add topper track or just do a complete overhaul like the Texas Giant but your right they don't really have to. At SFOT The Old Texas Giant was the parks signature attraction that was starting to age a little and by upgrading it they were able to return it to the parks signature attraction again. Mean Streak never was the signature coaster at Cedar Point. They could completely re do the coaster and turn it into the best ride in the world but the general public would probably still regard Dragster and Millennium Force and Maverick as the best rides in the park.

And who knows maybe fixing Mean Streak is as easy as a little track work and some new Timberliners. That would certainly be a much cheaper option then a complete NTAG treatment or tearing it down and completely replacing it.

I have to admit this made me lol.

Mean Streak at least WAS a better ride than SoB was. If you had ridden it in it's first few seasons, before the brakes all the way down the first drop, it was pretty cool flying through all that structure. I'd say Mean Streak is a much better candidate for the Rocky Mountain treatment than SoB is... Just my 2 cents.

^ I don't know, I do agree that Mean Streak was at one point at least a decent coaster but I think that SOB is a much better candidate for the Full Rocky Mountain Treatment. I think with some track work and new trains Mean Streak could be decent but SOB has no chance to ever be a decent ride again without some type of major overhaul, it never was that good to begin with. I also think that considering Kings Islands current coaster lineup a properly reworked SOB with a new layout and trains and full Rocky Mountain treatment would easily make it one of the top 2 or 3 rides in the park, but I don't think that's the case with Mean Streak.

I'd love to see Cedar Fair invest in a multi-ride package deal with Rocky Mountain Coaster to cover several of their major wooden coasters at all of their parks. Cover Mean Streak, SOB, Ghost Rider, and maybe even eventually do some topper track rehabs on the Beast, Shivering Timbers, Hurler, Grizzly, Timberwolf, Racer and any other wooden coaster out there.
