Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

Just got back from one of my best Point visits in years (May 25, 2010).

As much as I liked Demon Drop's ride experience, I actually think the front looks much better without it. No doubt Demon Drop was a Cedar Point icon, but it still was pretty clunky looking and borderline eyesore...at least to me.

Highlights:

-The weather was amazing.

-There were minimal to no crowds.

-Practically every ride was a walk-on.

-Everything ran great all day, for the most part.

-Mantis is giving some GREAT rides this year, rode it at least 5 times today in various locations throughout the train. The absolute BEST rides I have ever had on it...in any row. The trims were off all day long (maybe they are worried about it rolling back again?). Mantis is hauling some serious ass.

-Magnum is giving some awesome rides, smoothest I've felt it in a while.

-Raptor's MCBR brakes were completely off.

-Saw the no smoking policy enforced a good amount of times.

Lowlights:

-Mean Streak is the opposite of Mantis, as it is giving some of the worst rides I have ever had on it.

-I was never a fan of Blue Streak to begin with, but it is also giving some *worse ever* rides...at least I think so.

-Heh, this is more bad luck, got in line twice for Maverick, both times it broke down. The first time I left the line. The second time I just waited it out, but I heard someone say a train got stuck in the launch tunnel. Not a big deal at all, but if that's what was wrong the first time also, I hope there isn't some glitch in the system that will cause this to occur more than it should. Either way, the crew still worked diligently and had it back up and running.

-Heard a Corkscrew ride-op insult guests. Corkscrew had rows blocked off, and these kids tried going in another gate to get to one of those rows...basically like 6 people walked through one airgate, the two that were supposed to be there, and these four extra kids. The op said that there should be classes on how to board rollercoasters, but it would be no use anyway because they would all fail. While the kids were't right at all, and while the comment isn't a huge deal, it still irked me a bit that he would talk to PAYING CUSTOMERS that way and basically say they are stupid. I wish I would have remembered to report it, but I completely forgot, as this happened early in the day.

-Waited an HOUR for food at TGI Fridays next to Castaway Bay.

^ Is that annoying ride op from last week still at Blue Streak? AHA, I keed, I keed.

It's good the hear that the Point was epic. Last week was great other than the disrespectin' rain.

Yes, Mantis is awesome. BTW, is TTD still only loading the front six?

^^ Maybe that wasn't it then, because it was down for a good while...probably about 45 minutes to an hour. Let's put it this way, the inside queue was full, I was on the bridge when it broke down, and when it reopened, I was next to ride. The whole queue except for a select few of us had left the line. Also, three trains on the brake run(s) were evacuated.

BTW, is TTD still only loading the front six?

No, the entire trains were being loaded all day, and TTD was flying over the top. My guess is because it was colder then, and TTD has a better chance of rolling back.

On Maverick it is very common to have a train stuck in the tunnel it takes not to long to get the ride up and running again.

Yeah I got stuck in the tunnel on Saturday night on one of the last rides of the day. I'd say it took around fifteen or twenty minutes to get it up and running again. Then they were nice enough to send us around agin.

Cedar Point's a coaster park, but not to the point of insanity like the creator of that map wanted. I mean, they have enough coasters already and Disaster Transport's STILL popular with the public. That's not going anywhere soon, especially since it has one of the haunted houses/experiences inside of it during HalloWeekends.

Finished my 2 day trip to Cedar Point.

Alot more people in the park today than yesterday. A lot more school kids in the park.

Got all my credits.....even Brown Streak....err I mean Mean Streak. Front row......got a headache during the ride but it wasn't too bad. I'd never ridden a wooden coaster with a trim brake on the first drop.

As far as Millennium and Dragster.......yeh...my balls were half way up my throat but I got the credits.

I couldn't get Gemini Jr because I was first told "You're too tall" then I said "What about that guy, we're the same height" and then I was told "Well he's got a kid with him." I tried to borrow someone else's kid so I could get the credit but that didn't work.

Oh well...it was a great trip.

What a coincidence. A friend and I were getting on right as it went down. Some other people we knew were stuck in the holding zone (train behind yours) and we had to get off as we were still in the station. We were all wondering if a train was in the tunnel during all the evacs and what not. When your train got back the girl in the front was all "THAT WAS SO SCARY". lol. I think it woulda been kinda fun to be down there not knowing when you'd launch.

Trust me, you'd know when you're launched. A ride op has to come down to the tunnel and make sure everyone is alright. Kyle, correct me if I'm wrong but then we had to manually launch the train from the panel in the tunnel. If I'm remembering this correctly.

Yeah like the others have said they tell you when you're going to launch, so it wasn't that scary at all. There's always some people that over react to situations like that and find it more frightening than it actually is. It was a lot of fun though hearing all of the bickering and comments made down there though.

What's with this talk of Mean Streak giving heaaches and such? Am I the only one who doesn't get the headaches or get beat up? But as for hearing about Blue Streak getting rough, that's pretty crappy, I must make it out this year, seeing as I have never had a bad ride on Blue Streak.

Looks like the opening of shoot the rapids has been delayed once again. The red cross winners were told that the first rides have been postponed again. No new date has been given.

No word from cedar point yet. I find that kind of odd, because it is supposed to open tomorrow. I think the least they could do if it was not going to open tomorrow, is give people a heads up.

^^One saving grace is they re-profiled one of the turn and drops, and then back to pain. Shuffling, jackhammering, pain. Never had an 'ok' or 'good' ride on it.

Well I'll be there Wednesday or so. I want this thing to open to steal some crowd from Millennium and Maverick!

I'll never forget one of my favorite CP memories. I was wearing a shirt that said "My back hurts", we came up on the platform to ride Mean Streak and one of the ride ops says "Oh, I see you've already ridden this ride". It was hilarious!

I rode Mean Streak twice during my trip, both during the late afternoon on separate days. The first time I sat in the second to last car and didnt think it was that bad. The second trip through I sent in the front and thought it was brutal. I find keeping my back off the seat helps a bit.

My main gripe with the ride is that it felt like I was waiting for something good/bad to happen the entire ride. None of the drops were all that exciting and there was little in the way of forces...it just kind of meandered through. However, I have to say it's definately far from the roughest ride I have been on. I wonder if the people who complain the loudest had ridden Texas Giant in 2009...now THAT was rough.
