Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

Do we really need a picture every time somebody moves on the construction site? It's not like anyone can't go on the webcams themselves and look if they want to see the progress. Just trying to save people some trouble.

I say 'yes' because people posting pictures is useful in the context of this thread because it keeps the pictures of the various stages of construction and people discussing what's happening on site together, whereas the webcam only shows the current state of construction, so if someone says 'oh look the last bit of the drop is going in', by the time you visit the webcam it's already happened. Plus it's a good conversation starter

All that blabbing about Chic-Fil-A is quite ridiculous in here. This is a theme park forum about one of the best parks in the world. If you're honestly offended because an organization doesn't support what you support, then you're part of the problem, not the solution. If you hate Chic-Fil-A but support say a LGBT community hating on churches and you don't have a problem with at as well; then you have no space to call people or organizations names. Simple as that, now back to Valravn...

There's a difference between not supporting the same thing as someone else and actively trying to ensure that someone lives a life that is disadvantaged and not guaranteed equal protections under the law. So Chick-Fil-A is the only problem here, unless you're trying to count your problem of attempting to get this thread "back to Valravn" to avoid a subject that might make you uncomfortable, which didn't even work.

I've never been a fan of Chick-Fil-A myself, but I can't say that I never popped in for the occasional milkshake on a hot day especially. I'd love to see the building become something like Midway Market, but more of a western style cuisine.

No attempt to change the subject as I don't live in a proverbial "bubble" of protection away from the bad bad world.

^ It looks like that is what is headed our way...yikes!

1-3 inches scares you?

There's a terrible joke in here, I just know it...

Yeah, I won't comment on that...but they are predicting that our area could get measurable snow in the feet (versus inches) throughout this week. Yes, that is scary considering what South Buffalo went through last year (6-7 feet in less than 24 hours).

Though it was a lot of snow, the ones who were faced with it were able to manage, and in my area alone it really brought out the best of people, who were all helping one another to get through Snowvember together! They don't call us the city of good neighbors for nothin'! But with that, it makes 1-3" look like nothing compared to the 9'+ snowdrifts that you could find out in Depew (just east of the city). I'm glad Mother Nature gave us a break after that winter though!

Yes...that is nice that she is giving us WNY'er's a break this year. It should be interesting to see what she has in store for us this week with the lake temps still hovering in the 40's!

I hope clik-fil-a gets replaced with a Popeyes. Chicken tastes so much better without a side of hate.

The only thing I like to speculate about more than amusement rides is chicken. Cedar Fair hasn't worked with Popeyes in the past, but I want to dismiss rumors that Six Flags has an exclusive 2 Popeyes deal in the pipelines.

Edit: Those Cajun Fries though!

Bojangle's Seasoned Fries >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Popeye's Canjun Fries.

Again, a little late, but here is where we are (even though everyone knows).

I like these progress things. Thanks for sharing!!

I'd gladly take the stairs!!

An up close look at the holding brake.

A different view:

The support in the bottom left of this photo looks massive!

I mean... Bojangles fries are just crappy soggy fries with Old Bay on them which makes everything good (sorry I mean the Bojangles special spice blend which is basically just Old Bay). Chickie and Pete's already has that only the fries themselves are better and it comes with cheese and that's already in the park.

Oh man I LOVE big beefy supports! As well as fresh painted untouched track!

Now I thought I knew how a dive drops holding brake worked...kinda like a Vekoma boomerang...but on those images it doesn't look like there's any way for the chain to drop. I'm guessing there's some sort of catch mechanism somewhere else?

Thanks for the fotos doods!

There is a chaindog on the bottom of the train just for the holding brake. As the train engages on the holding brake the chain of the holding brake slows way down. Giving you the feeling that it's stopped. . . But it never really stops. The train eventually gets to the point where it disengages from the holding brake, and begins the drop. Kind of like when a roller coaster gets to the top of the lift hill and disengages from the lift hill. Same thing here but instead of the chain pulling the train forwards the chain is keeping the train at a very slow speed.

Hope that makes sense. If not watch the video below. I think they start talking about the holding brake at about 1:10.

Question for anyone who can answer this:

Many pages back i mention how Valravn will sound beautiful with the B&M roar. Someone said that it may be filled with sand, like Gatekeeper. Coming from a park (DP) that is sound restricted and as two B&M's that are filled with sand, does B&M or the park decide if the coaster has sand in it?

Tony stated Cedar Point & B&M go back and forth with suggestions with an idea of what Cedar Point wants. I assume the park would choose if they want a roar or not. However, dive coaster track is very heavy already (especially the lifthill pieces). Each piece of track for this coaster averages around eleven tons so I'm sure adding sand would have added a significant amount of weight. I do not know if adding sand would be too much for the crane or not, however.
