Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2038: Top Thrill 2 reopens on May 3rd!

Recommended Posts

something taken from a news article from Toledo Blade:

The only real debate among coaster enthusiasts is what type of coaster it will be.

That has produced many volatile online arguments.

"It won't be a skyscraper like Top Thrill Dragster," said Mr. Schmidt. The track put up so far has several inversions - twists that turn riders upside down - he added.

"The most popular theory is this is an Aqua Trax," he said, which is a coaster set along a water theme. The new ride is next to Lake Erie.

But others have argued it will be more like a new coaster Intamin is introducing near Barcelona, Spain.

That features a track with a central car with two seats attached to each side. The riders' feet dangle and the cars may rock freely.

Carole Sanderson, a Cleveland resident who is president of the American Coaster Enthusiasts group, said she knows what Cedar Point is building. In June, park officials told her their plans but swore her to secrecy.

"They always introduce a unique ride and I believe it will be something we've never seen before," she said.

The ride will have elements where the technology will be familiar, but will have the most of something, she hinted.

"will have the most of something"?

What? Burgers per drive-through??

Actually, maybe. There will be a whole bunch of cannons specifically places around the ride. And people can like shoot water at riders, something like Roller-Soaker @ HP maybe? I dont know, I'm going on the "alot of something" as "alot of water". My 2 cents

They're going to break the record for the most inversions. That's the only possible choice now.

Remember the sign "You all up for some serious Sidewindin'!?" ... probably talking about barrel rolls.

If you think about it, Colossus in Thorpe Park doesn't take up that much space and has 10 inversions, it wouldn't be hard for CP to break that inversion record at all.

Usually, it's to make everything cheaper. They use different types of track for different heights and forces to minimize stress on the track and supports, as well as to save money.

Here, it just looks like they did it so the track could fit inside those supports and the train would still have clearance.

Looks like those supports are the station. It also looks like there will be two loading docks, a la Storm Runner (or that could be the transfer track). You can see where the track will enter/exit the station and go through a flat turn behind the supports in front.

EDIT: Carnage beat me to it.
