They probably would have some lighting package on the towers as well. I hope they would go with the multi color towers, the plain color would not look good on the new midway IMO.

SANDUSKY, Ohio (Feb. 20, 2014) – Cedar Point, voted the “Best Amusement Park in the World,” is kicking off its year of family fun with the announcement of even more new attractions for the upcoming season. The park previously announced the addition of two new rides (Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles), along with changes to Camp Snoopy and the beginning of a two-year renovation project to Hotel Breakers. But the news doesn’t end there.

 

A trip to Cedar Point isn’t complete without trying some of the park’s mouth-watering food options and this summer’s offerings promise to be the best ever! Early-risers will delight in the addition of a full-service Starbucks (in the former Donut Time) while those looking for quick snacks will enjoy a new Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon (in Challenge Park).

 

For the lunch and dinner crowd, Chickie’s and Pete’s Sports Bar (in the former Game Day Grille) joins the all-star lineup of in-park dining options. Recently named as one of the “Ten Best Sports Bars” in the country by USA Today, Chickie’s and Pete’s will feature local sports memorabilia and signature menu items such as Philly Cheese Steaks, Lisa’s Blonde Lobster Pie and their legendary Crabfries.

 

On the Gemini Midway, a Coca-Cola Freestyle station and a Yogurt Plus will be added near the new Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles family rides.

 

Later this summer, Cedar Point will take screaming to new heights when it opens its new SlingShot ride. Billed as one of the most exciting vertical thrill rides around, riders on SlingShot will be secured in an open-air two-person capsule before being launched nearly 360 feet into the sky at speeds of up to 62 mph to the second highest point of the Cedar Point skyline – that’s just below the tallest and fastest coaster at the park, Top Thrill Dragster! After a brief feeling of weightlessness, riders will descend back towards Earth before catapulting back up and down until the capsule comes to rest back at the launching point. Manufactured by Funtime in Australia, SlingShot will be located near the Gemini roller coaster and will be an extra charge amusement ride.

 

“These additions show our commitment to offering our guests the best in family fun for the 2014 season,” stated Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “With a collection of 72 rides, including 17 roller coasters, three kids’ areas, live shows, unique and interesting places to eat and spend the night, Cedar Point offers something fun for everyone.”

Didn't Donut Time have Starbucks Coffee anyway? I'm not shocked about the addition of Cinnabon since a lot of other Cedar Fair parks have them but it's nice to see Cedar Fair upping their food offerings with all of these outside vendors (Chick Fil A, Chickie and Pete's, Pinks, Cinnabon, Famous Daves, TGI Fridays...) since their standard park food is pretty mediocre.

 

As far as the slingshot goes, I'm assuming this will be a lot like the version at Great Adventure which is a lot of fun. The open air seating makes a huge difference and the ride has a very permanent look to it which is more than I can say for most theme park slingshot installations. I'll definitely be taking this thing for a ride or two.

Correct about Donut Time. They have served Starbucks Coffee since it opened several seasons ago. I hope that still keep all those tasty pastries that are made in house.

Cedar Point has terrible food. I'd much rather visit these franchises than that crap. Also, you can't get Chickie and Pete's or Pink's outside of the park without traveling hundreds of miles.

Hey, more attractions at the Point? Sounds good to me. Hopefully they'll choose to color the slingshot up and not leave it to be a plain and boring normal scheme. And wow! 360 feet! thats awesome!

Noticed something interesting.......

 

In the announcement page, it stated (towards the bottom) that Cedar Point has 17 roller coasters. Also, Pipe Scream is listed under the Roller Coasters section. I guess Cedar Point has 17 coasters again.

Its technically not a coaster. Sorry but anyone who says otherwise is stretching it too much...its a ride, not a coaster!

Pipe Scream is also listed in the Family Ride section, so it's either an error or Cedar Point just wants to claim that they have 17 coasters.

Wow, definitely some great additions going in at the resort end of the park...I like it!

 

While I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants, if they are going to put them in, I would rather it be Chickie & Pete's, TGI Friday's, Auntie Anne's and Famous Dave's versus Burger King, Arby's or Wendy's. Although I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep if they got rid of the anti-gay Chik Fil-A.

 

I can just imagine at how my stomach will be growling while trying to walk past the Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon stands to get back to Camper Village or the Breakers. They always smell so good when I walk by them in the mall!
