Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Cedar Point has lowered height requirements before - Millennium Force opened with a 54" requirement which shifted to 48" towards the end of the season. So it isn't unheard of the park lowering things.

Cp has always had odd height requirements as far back as I can remember. Case in point, back in 1969, as kids, my parents took us kids to many parks during the summer. Earlier in the summer we visited Geauga Lake, Euclid Beach and others, and rode the Flying Coaster (aka, Kangaroo at Kennywood) and had no problems getting on the ride or coasters either. However, when it was our turn to ride the one at CP, we found out we were too short to ride it at CP. Kind of hard to believe as we had just ridden Blue Streak ( in its buzz bar only days) just a few minutes before. So I don't believe it has anything to do with state laws or insurance, it's just a quirk that CP has had on heights over the years for some unexplainable reason.

I feel sorry for the workers that are going to be catching hell from parents because of this decision.

 

Im just glad my kids are over 48" (49" and 52") so i dont have to deal with them being disappointed about not being able to ride a coaster that they were able to last year!

Also lets remember that Ohio has very strict ride laws in order to let the park operate the rides, so if anything, we can blame worthless state laws...

No. You blame Cedar Fair. They have done this in many other of their parks, not just the ones in Ohio.

Bad news, apparently, according to a Cedar Point News twitter- "@cedarpointnews: Iron Dragon's height requirement has been changed from 46" to 48" for the 2014 season."

 

This is a joke, ridiculous, and makes me dislike the park even more. We all know I already have major issues with the majority of height requirements at this park and this is just a slap in the face. Why even bother bringing children under 7 to the park anymore!??! Are they trying to be like SFMM and get rid of families, oh wait, SFMM actually has more rides for under 48" kids!!! When a park makes me say something positive about SFMM I know there's a big problem.

But the question really is: can i use the 'ride and slide 2 day-ticket' just for 2 days CP?

It's a rather mediocre suspended coaster. With OTSR.

Two inches isn't much, but still makes a difference. The ride is no different than it was last year, two years, or ever 20 years ago.

Usually it is the manufacturer that sets the requirements for the rides and there might be a possibility in where the parks might further tweak them to make them more stricter. Since Arrow is out of business, I think that means that the park now has just about full control over the requirements now. It sounds like to me that they want to remain consistent across the board with their Arrow suspended coasters and changed it to be the same as The Bat. It wouldn't shock me if people who have visited CP, went down to KI and complained why their 47" child couldn't ride theirs. Judging from the ride experience, 48" is way too high for Iron Dragon, but as for Flight Deck/ The Bat, it would kind of make a little more sense, but then again SFMM's Ninja is lower.

They are based in Ohio, so could they be modelling their parks after Ohio state laws?

Well this kind of stinks, that Cedar Point raised Iron Dragon from 46" to 48", that really limits kids under 48" to Woodstock Express (with adult) and Jr. Gemini (I know it's going to called "Wilderness Express", but I'm still calling it "Jr. Gemini"!) when it comes to coasters.

Iron Dragon was a huge disappointment from the first time I rode it during it's inaugural year when I was fifteen. The only reason I thought that they were keeping it around was because it was billed as somewhat of a "family" coaster with a lower height requirement.

 

Now that they are upping the height limit, I wish that they would just get rid of it as that real estate would be prime for something way better than an outdated Arrow coaster that never really thrilled to begin with.

Iron Dragon was probably my first "big" coaster, not counting Woodstock Express (which is not that small, or at least seems bigger than it does.) If it was a 48" height restriction at that time, my first coaster might as well have been Magnum (the first coaster I rode after I became 48" tall.)
