Tbcoasterfan Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Sort of off topic but seeing all the naming ideas reminded me, has anyone seen the show Summer Daze at the Palace Theatre this year? The one curtain backdrop has a photo of Wrigley Field with the sign photoshopped to read "Cedar Point (either Field or Stadium, I forgot lol), Home of the Muffelheads". I got quite a kick out of that. Being local it almost makes me wish that Cedar Point with sponsor a youth little league team and call them the Muffelheads!
rollin_n_coastin Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Can we stop guessing or making fun of Cedar Fair's Flight-Deck-Hawk name? It's getting a little annoying reading page after page of what people are guessing the ride name will be. Honestly I could careless what the ride name is...I'm just excited that a huge B&M WingRider is coming!!! Glad the moderating worked out for you. Instead of the equivelant of maybe just over a page of very recent posts about names now we are actually getting "page after page". Moving on, Just one more name to throw out there lol. With the colour in those pics they're obviously paying homage to the flat ride in front of Disaster Transport so it's obviously going to be called "Wing Rider Wing Rider Wing Rider". ^What an interesting show. A buddy and I went in for air conditioning and a beer since Maverick was down for an hour or so. The cheese factor was too much to handle, it was hard to stop laughing at certain numbers, most notably Firework. The kids in the theatre were loving it though, which is what it's all about.
DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 They could take the RCT approach and it could be named by default; "Wing Coaster 1" On a serious note, I do like the idea of CP getting a Wing Coaster (no matter the name). However, I do beleive some people might be disappointed by the "fact" its not a massive work of metal and creativity. Im sorry I didn't realise that B&M and or CP made you a creative genius. Anyways, this is a bit of new technology, and it is slated to be the tallest and fastest of its type. Hopefully not just by a few feet (MF, i305, Leviathan) . For all we know maybe B&M perfected the rotating seats just for CP . I am also hoping that this style doesn't burnout like the stand-ups or suspended coasters of the 80's and early 90's, or become overly common at parks (SLC, boomerang) I am curious about the; layout, theme (if any) , and the name last (IMO I could care less about the name, as long as it is open and is an awesome ride). I do think it is a bit ridiculous for them to get rid of the space spiral, they just need to clean it up a bit. But oh well, the park is in control, not me. P.S. What ever happened to the rumored "Dive Machine"?
Flefty18 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Would it be a mistake to make our first trip to Cedar Point during Halloweekends since it's going to be so packed? Even with a Fast Lane pass? Will all the rides even be open on Sat & Sun? Hoping to stay on property for the hour early entry also.

Since you are going the first weekend of the month it won't be as bad as if you were trying to go the second or the third weekend. Plus fastlane will probably help (As long as they stopped over selling them). Also yes normally all the rides should be open aslong as there is no mechanical issues and the weather don't suck.
Flefty18 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Thanks- how's the weather there usually in Oct? I plan on pre-ordering Fast Lane when I book all this in a couple weeks.
kidcoaster 2 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Thanks- how's the weather there usually in Oct? I plan on pre-ordering Fast Lane when I book all this in a couple weeks. Sometimes its calm, than other times there can be a very nasty storm (Like the last two seasons). Its very unpredictable on point.
Flefty18 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I'm just afraid my worse nightmare will happen in that I book and pay for the flights, hotel, and tickets and then I get there and it's packed and raining.
CorkscrewFoley Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I'm late to this, but what about Hawk-Off? I think my brother pretty much summed it up when I told him about the Wing Rider and me being on the fence about it 'you know you'll love it' and I probably will. I like to think of myself as the Anti-CP Fan-boy, where I'd rather see smaller rides as many of them are going the way of the Dodo...Just a thought.
Intaman Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) I think CP needs to pay tribute to Hawk of the legendary WWE and pro-wrestling tag-team of Hawk and Animal aka the Legion of Doom. I figure the coaster would be painted black and red. As the train descends, during its first drop, riders and nearby park attendees hear Hawk say, "what a rush"!!!!!. Let's call this ride Hawk 180 or Hawk's Rush!!! or simply Hawk. Eh? Eh? Edited July 17, 2012 by Intaman
Skycoastin Steve Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Let's call this thread "Dead Horse Beaten to a Bloody and Unrecognizable Lump of Flesh and Hair."
DarienLaker Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 What about "X-Hawk", "Steel Hawk", "Phoenix Flyer", or "Silver Star Hawk" for names?
UrbanLegend Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) ..."Dead Horse Beaten to a Bloody and Unrecognizable Lump of Flesh and Hair." That's as good a name as any I could think of. The themed trains might not be so appealing though... Also, in regard to the whole Name Debate: Edited July 17, 2012 by UrbanLegend
Intaman Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Alright, this is my last idea submission. How about "Hawkeye the Ride"? Obviously, it is an Alan Alda, MASH-inspired wing-rider. Think second-tier licensing like Intimidator 305. TPR could then hold a Hawkeye Bash. For opening day, Alan Alda would ride first...as a single rider!
robbalvey Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Sometimes I'll read these threads and I'm sure if I should laugh or cry...I'm probably going to go do a little bit of both now...
Tmcdllr Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I still like "Hawk-Dump" or actually, anything that has the word "Dump" in it.
DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 All name guessing aside (for the moment) Who really saw Disaster Transport being the candidate? But then again, who thought Wildcat was going? I would have thought since the Arrow Suspended coasters are dying..... The couple of times I have been to the park, I have noticed that the Wicked Twister, Disaster Transport, and Max Air area is usually dead despite the rest of the park being jam packed. Do you think that is why they are putting the rumored 2013 attraction there?
Skycoastin Steve Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 ^DT's demise has been rumored for about 8 years now. It was never a matter of "if," but "when."

DBru Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Let's call this thread "Dead Horse Beaten to a Bloody and Unrecognizable Lump of Flesh and Hair." ...and then repeatedly punch ourselves in the face until we forget about the twenty minutes of our lives we just wasted.

Thank you because that is exactly what this thread feels like. (I'll add the word Hawk just to fit in)
studiobrandon Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 So along with the ride, is the plan to also expand the actual park into the parking lot? Or is the lift just going to extend itself out over the lot and then do its course towards the front gate? I know the plan is to open up the former Disaster Transport area and make it look pretty with the beach, but just curious at how extensive this will be. It'd be nice if they added a few buildings, and made it a bit more landscaped & expanded further, possibly for other future additions in that direction. I assume the Trioka ride will be moved. I'm glad Ouimet is removing some of the junkier rides. Next one on my list is the Matterhorn ride. That one always looks so out of place & carnival-ish.

From the Sandusky Register article, it sounds like it'll just be like Leviathan, with the ride extending into the parking lot. Whether or not they'll even bother to paint over the parking space lines is another matter.
