Aughra
I was at SFMM today and the hours were supposed to be 10:30am to 6PM, but in going through security I heard some guards talking that someone siad they were open till 10. Sure enough around 1pm they announced that the park will be open till 10pm tonight for Teacher Appreciation or something. I this something they do on a regular basis and is it based on attendance or did they really have it planned that way? I assume the employees working till 10 had to know ahead of time, since that's 4 extra hours?
rawrtotheargh
Thats interesting. I have never been there when they did such a thing. I would ask my friend but she is working right now. But someone else will probably answer it. If not i'll ask her later. ^How were the lines?
Sir Clinksalot
I'm thinking there was probably a corporate event tonight and perhaps not enough tickets were sold??? And perhaps the park wasn't very busy today so they just kept it open anyway??? I know I've been at Disneyland when some company has bought out the park and they kept it open since the park was dead anyway. Granted, the last time I saw that was like 15 years ago. PeoplemoverMatt
There was a private party scheduled for this evening, but it was cancelled. In its wake a couple days ago, tonight's hours were changed from a 6pm closing to a 10pm closing. 4 extra hours for everyone tonight!
Sir Clinksalot
^ Well, I was kinda right. Okay, not at all actually.
Aughra
Wow weird for a private party to be can canceled so late. Anyway the lines didn;t seem bad, but then I was there with my short kids so I didn;t get up to the big coasters. We left around 3pm and the parking was only full to about F2 so not too bad for the last day of Spring Break. I wish I could have stayed later! alexinla
If a company cancels an event a couple of days before, I am sure there is a hefty penalty fine involved that probably covered the park costs for the extra 4 hours. If it was a nice day and enough people in the park, management probably thought that even if they have 5000 people in the park for these extra hours that will spent money on food, drinks, games, souvenirs e.t.c., it will be worth to might aswell keep it open
WFChris
Weird Question: Are SFMM employees unionized? I dont think they are, but if they were, the cancellation of hours would probably not be acceptable to them. Chris.
PeoplemoverMatt
Ok, I could have worded what I previously said a little better. It wasn't an out & out cancellation. They just cancelled the initial plans and changed their program a bit, which resulted in the 10pm closing for all guests. There was still a large group of people-who-know-who-they-are's in the park Friday night. SFMM's employees by & large are not unionized. The only people I'm not sure about are the maintenance & construction workers. The vast majority of SFMM employees are seasonal, similar to DLR's CR-35, or whatever those are called these days. Bolliger&Mabillard
^^Even CR employees are in the union at Disney.
Scream162
Most unions at DL have also gotten rid of CR-25 (not 35) too. And it's the CTs (Casual-Temporary) who are seasonal, not CRs (Casual Regular, part-time). Also, what I find funny is that the ride operators at Universal Studios Hollywood are a union but they still make minimum wage. What's the point? Some of the SFMM maintenance departments, I'm not sure exactly which ones, are unionized. I don't know how things have changed but when I worked at SFMM 6 years ago, you could easily work 60 hours a week if you really wanted to.
Bolliger&Mabillard
^I worked in the box office at Universal when I was 17. We made minimum wage because the union was pretty weak. We did get two sick days a quarter, a $.10 raise a year and double pay on national holidays. So it balanced out.
Jew
^^Instead of fighting over starting wages, USH's union has fought harder to protect other things like medical/dental insurance, vacation, raises for fulltime people, etc. Not the best for seasonal employees, but for people who are willing to stick with the company...it's a pretty sweet deal. On the topic of unions at SFMM...there are still some people very high up in management who were vehemently opposed to the maintenance people getting unionized, so I don't think you'll ever see anything more at SFMM. Comparing the benefits...it's not the least bit surprising the best people leave SFMM as soon they can. There has got to be a ton of talented technicians, managers, leads, ride ops, stage managers, etc. that all got started at SFMM and left for USH or Disney as quick as they could. ebl
^ Thanks for the report, William! Only a month left... And the park continues to look great. If I can, maybe I'll head out sometime between now and May 21. Eric
Sir Clinksalot
What is the female Porky Pig's character's name??? I totally drew a blank when we saw her yesterday. I said to the kids "do you want to take a picture with ... the chick pig". ModEdit by larrygator: That would be Petunia

Mechanic
I said to the kids "do you want to take a picture with ... the chick pig". That's why I love this site. At least daily I see something that just totally cracks me up. P.S. Don't feel bad, I drew a blank when I first saw the picture as well. I knew that I knew her name, but it just wouldn't come to mind.
CreditCrazy
Whoever went last Saturday, was it extremely busy? I had a couple friends that went saying they waited 2+ hours for X2, Viper, Riddler's Revenge, and Goliath. Those were the only rides they rode besides Colossus, and they were there for about 6.5 hours.
Calicoasters
^I'm sure it was pretty busy Saturday because it was pretty Sunday. We just avoided X2 and Tatsu and went around the park starting counter clockwise.
southpuddle
Those new queue rails for Roaring Rapids look really nice. Too bad they're going to be completely carved up with vandalism after a week. You'd think that SFMM would have learned by now not to paint their queue rails and to avoid anything wood that is within reach of any park guest. rawrtotheargh
^^ How was it? You were talking about going for weeks. Hope you had a good time! I am going Wednesday and it can't come soon enough. Even though I was there just 2 weeks ago. On a side note. Today I was watching a documentary on sailing, and someone in it compared the roughness of a hurricane to Psyclone. Thought that it was pretty funny.

SFMM isn't the only park in the universe that sometimes suffers from guests vandalizing certain areas. Possibility of vandalism doesn't mean paint/wood shouldn't be used...
