Calicoasters
^Yeah, they don't repaint or replace them as much as Disneyland does. Gold Rusher is starting to get a lot of gum on that one support next to the first lift hill. No where near as bad as it was years ago though. ^^Yesterday would have been a good day if my girl friend didn't get a migraine. We were doing really good at the back of the park. There was a good amount of people there but you didn't see much of them in the back... I wonder why? (X2, Tatsu) If we stayed as long as I wanted we would have got in a lot of rides on Tidal Wave because it was HOT! I'm going again this coming Sunday, hopefully this will be a migraine-less visit! rawrtotheargh
^ Keep your fingers crossed! Just make sure that Deja Vu is one of the last rides then. Maybe that will help with the migraine. I was thinking about going this Saturday too. I think I go too much.
Calicoasters
I haven't been on Deja Vu in almost 2 years... I'm for some reason too tall for it by 1/2 an inch. I never even knew there was a cut off until one day they asked me how tall I was as I was boarding. I got away with it then, but it's not worth waiting in line to not get a ride in. Deja Vu was never an issue for Sarah, it's the awesome intensity of Batman that gets her.
rawrtotheargh
Most of my friends can only ride Deja Vu once per day. How tall are you? I think its like 6'3 is the cutoff. But yeah its always interesting to see peoples facial expressions when they are told that they are too tall. Sorry to hear that man. You should have rode it during Bash. There was barely any line. southpuddle
Not paint their queue rails? What? SFMM isn't the only park in the universe that sometimes suffers from guests vandalizing certain areas. Possibility of vandalism doesn't mean paint/wood shouldn't be used... Yes. The queue rails at SFMM. Most of them are painted (as in not plain stainless steel rails), and what happens to that paint? People take coins, keys, and what have you, and scratch things in to them. It looks like crap. This wouldn't be a problem if they would get repainted frequently, but that's not the case. Cedar Point has a better alternative: don't paint them in the first place. And no, SFMM isn't the only park in the universe that has to deal with vandalism, but due to it's geographic location (and subsequent demographics that the park attracts), it gets more people that have a propensity to vandalize things than a park in, say, the Midwest (see again: CP). In summation, if a park wants to use materials that are highly susceptible to vandalism, that's fine. But they need to be more on top of their game in the upkeep department. So you're saying because SFMM is located where it is, it's at risk because just everybody who lives here are vandals? I live in this geographic location. Am I a vandal? Robb lives here too. Is he a vandal? Have you ever actually been to Valencia? We have one of the lowest crime rates in the nation. Clearly you have very little knowledge about SFMM's geographic location. You're insulting an entire population because a few bad apples drive themselves to a certain place and cause problems once in a while, and all because you want to make some point about handrails??? Wow.
alexinla
.... and of course while I was at CP in 2006, there were some of these friendly "midwestern folks" fighting in the line at MF, naturally it was just a greeting ritual and the security only came to escort them to a nice lunch buffee PLEASE! LewJB
I visited the park as a young teenager and, apart from the strong stench of weed around Psyclone/Deja Vu (which can be dismissed anyway as this wasn't a rare occurrence around LA generally), I found the clientelle of Magic Mountain to be fine. For a little boy from England on holiday in LA, I wasn't intimidated in the slightest. I'd heard very bad things about the park and it's various rough edges, but I seriously didn't think it was that bad.
alexinla
Well weed is legal in southern california for health purposes, so someone standing in line with a bad knee might needed there medication... ANYHOW, smoking weed in a line is something we probably all would not endorse but to say that this has to do with a certain clientele or demographic that comes to the park is just plain silly. It's not that I have smelled weed coming out of the bathrooms at Disneyland(actually happens everytime I go) and that is in Anaheim
Calicoasters
^I highly doubt and marijuan use at the park has EVER been legal! I've smelt the stuff several times while at the park. The places that I noticed the most is Riddler's Revenge's exit path and Cyclone Bay. I've ever been lucky enough to see the group get busted right out of the exit of Riddler's. @ PeopleMoverMatt: You know he's not talking exclusively about the people of Valencia or Santa Clarita and more so about what's South of it. You're insulting an entire population because a few bad apples drive themselves to a certain place and cause problems once in a while, and all because you want to make some point about handrails??? Dude, you need to seriously chill out. He was obviously referring to the entire Los Angeles County. Besides, hardly anyone from the SCV even goes to SFMM. I would partially agree with his statement regarding SFMM's location, but it's the clientele the park attracts by building world-record breaking coasters and nothing else.. You see the same thing if you go to CP and SFGAdv. Well weed is legal in southern california for health purposes, so someone standing in line with a bad knee might needed there medication... Medical Marijuana is legal in CA but you can't do it in public. Having worked many a Grad Nite at Disneyland, I can say that marijuana use from LA County kids in theme parks is a very common practice.
ghost007jas
I think he was upset more that Magic Mountain was being called out for this whilst Cedar Point was being defended in the same breath. They're both big coaster parks, they both have the same problems. Magic Mountain may have under motivated employees, but Cedar Point hires snobs... At least in my experiences with some of the employees from both parks.
AllenA07
While all this talk about handrails and the general nature of crime and punishment is great, I was actually wondering how the rest of the park was doing. Are a lot of rides still in their yearly rehab, or have those come to an end yet?
Calicoasters
^I think pretty much everything except Roaring Rapids is open now. I was happy to ride Tidal Wave again last weekend. Superman was closed for a good amount of time Sunday, hopefully it is running now.
rawrtotheargh
Has anybody noticed the wrench affixed to the wall at the top of the sky tower? Just curious if anyone knows who signed above and below it. I asked the workers but they looked at me like what wrench? ^Superman was testing today. I guess they have been having trouble for a couple days. But I don't think the guy knew what he was talking about. No one was in any of the trains and there were like 7 dispatches all day. Best wrench ever!
Calicoasters
^My first tought was a prank. The welders I work with would take your tools you left behind and weld them to the building. Someone welded a nelson stud to the head of hammer once. ^^I'm not sure, but I think that was story Sunday with Superman.
rawrtotheargh
^ Sounds like something I would do. I bet that wrench has been there since it was built too. I was so surprised that sky tower was open. X was open ALL day too. But only had one train on circuit so the wait was still like 25 minutes. Edit: "It" being the sky tower. Not the wrench. ebl
In my 38 years of going to Magic Mountain, I have never noticed that wrench up there. Next time, I'll be on the lookout. Eric
racheysdad
Well finally made it on Monday, thanks for everyone's tips and info. Got there around 2pm and the cars in the lot were just barely up to the picnic area. Went to Guest Relations, waited about 10min behind a guy who lost his cell phone. Bought parking pass for $35 with receipt for the $15 I paid at the booth. Asked them why they just don't sell them at the AP center and they said it's because they don't handle cash or credit cards at the AP center. Makes sense, but if the park was busy, it would've been a pain to wait in 2 lines. Walked over to AP center and no wait at all. Haven't been to the park in about 5 years and was pleasantly surprised. Park seemed generally cleaner than before and most noticeable were the employee's friendliness. Most ride ops asked us how our day was going and told us to enjoy the rest of our day at the park. Kids enjoyed themselves, my 3 year old even wanted to ride Jet Stream twice. I was a bit disappointed that the Thomas the Train Town area was so small, but the theming was nice. Couldn't believe the short wait on X2, just about 12 minutes. Even on a day like this, I was still expecting 30-40min. My son's school was still out for spring break for another day, so we went back again on Tuesday morning. Decided to stop for breakfast, so didn't arrive until 10:30 and the park hadn't even opened yet. People were just waiting at the front gate. Is it always like that? They opened around 10:40ish. Tuesday was even slower then Monday. We walked on all the rides except for X2, which was still only a 10 min wait. Day before they weren't allowing rerides on Goliath, but it was so dead they said we could reride as long as there were empty seats. My son is just barely at the 54in height req and he already rode Tatsu and Scream with no problems. The Batman ride op wasn't sure if he was tall enough and walked over to a lady sitting in the booth. I guess the ride op was in training because she just said "up to you, make the call". And she didn't even acknowledge that I was standing right there next to the ride op. Well he made the call and decided my son wasn't tall enough, at least he was nice about it and apologized and said it was for our safety. I was a little annoyed that the lady didn't even acknowledge me standing 5 feet from her, but the ride ops attitude made up for it and I let it go. I was still happy most employees were going in the right direction, but for sure I wouldn't have been ignored like that at Disneyland.
Sir Clinksalot
Pot doesn't just happen at SFMM. I remember the last year of the "Main Street" electrical parade, there was a guy smoking pot sitting on the curb in main street. Right in front of everybody. Wow. Agreed... I live in Valencia as well and we are definitely one of the safest areas in the nation. However, you also have to factor in that a lot of folks from Los Angeles metropolitan area visit the park too. That said, I've seen carvings at pretty much every park I've been to and I've smelt weed at EVERY park I've ever been to. Sincerely, R.C.
ebl
"Pot doesn't just happen at SFMM." (Sir Clinksalot) It sure used to. Certain areas of the park seemed to attract those who were likely to engage in consuming that substance... Eric
ghost007jas
I've never smelled anything at Magic Mountain (granted I haven't been anywhere near as many as times as most of you guys) however, at Knott's Haunt last year the whole park smelled like pot. I thought I was the only one that wasn't getting any!
