P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

Recommended Posts

Rode it yesterday and it blew me away on all counts! Showed up to the park at opening and as I kinda expected, the line for TC was already backed up to the Lex Luther entrance. Sign said 3 hour wait, but ended up being 2.5. There was a brief delay as they added the 3rd train sometime around 11:30/12pm. Line moved pretty quickly after that. Noticed trains weren't dueling/racing on a bunch of runs, but once I reached the entrance sign and started snaking through the small queue in the station building the racing/dueling was consistent. They were assigning rows with no questions, exceptions, or requests being taken which was fine for opening weekend I guess.

The ride itself was absolutely nuts and the racing/dueling added SO much to the excitement/thrill factor! Mondo airtime everywhere, butter smooth, and amazing pacing. Being my first RMC coaster, their reputation lived up to the hype and then some. So beyond worth the lengthy wait especially because of the extended ride time of 4 mins. For me personally, it's easily the best ride in the park and easily gets thrown into my all time top 5 list. They really did such a stellar job with this makeover!

Almost on the ride... Only two trains running...

So has it ran three trains or consistently dueled since media day???

I saw it duel a lot while waiting forever to park. not every time but most.

I had to park on the other side of freeman. I've never been here when it's this crowded. the lot by employee and scream was full.

and yet, I'm in line forTC. lol

Where's the end of the line now? Currently in the switchbacks in the station. 2 hr. 20 min in and I started under Superman.

The park is already filling up the 3rd overflow lot across from Feedmill. So yes it's crowded.

Apparently the reason they keep taking the trains off Colossus to buff the wheels is because the track's paint keeps sticking on them. Once the paint gets worn off a good amount they shouldn't need to keep buffing the wheels.

Heading over to SFMM around 4pm and will drive my RV over as the RV parking area is in the old gas station right in about section A1.

When the original Colossus opened, the line was about the same as what people are reporting for TC. Historical perspective. However, I think TC will stay more popular. I am sure there are some former riders of Colossus in for a shock to their system expecting TC to be similar to the original.

Holy crap it sounds like a madhouse. I haven't been to the park when it's that crowded in forever. Glad to hear even with a line to Lex Luther/Goliath the wait for TC is still pretty reasonable.

I can't imagine how the rest of the park is operating though. Good day for a Flash Pass!

2 hr. 55 min later... We got on!!! And we dueled both times! It seems that the computer is programmed so that the blue side always hauls butt up the lift and the green speeds up and slows down. On our right when the dispatched the train on the blue side, the green lift started speeding up and didn't slow down until the blue train hit the lift. Then it was barely moving at all!

That makes a lot of sense actually! Schilke mentioned in a video interview for Wicked Cyclone that the ride will pick up a lot more speed once the paint comes off...! I wonder why they have to pull the trains out mid-day though? Would it hurt the performance or trains that bad if they just waited until end of day to do the maintenance?

never had to park here before

I cry if it ever spills outside the 2nd lot :/

At least the park is open an extra hour tonight, hopefully a lot of people won't know that and leave early

Seeing pictures of Magic Mountain this packed makes me even more grateful that my visit was on a Friday in October. Hope to get back out there as soon as I can; Twisted Colossus looks amazing.

^^^^WOW. Me neither! And if I did I would probably just go home unless I could convince everyone who went that we needed to get Flash Passes.

I can't even imagine what the operations in the park would be like on a day like today. And I'm not even talking about rides, I'm just talking having to wait in line to get a refill on my souvenir cup. I know it's Memorial Day, but I wonder if a majority of this has to do with Twisted Colossus? This just may end up being one of Magic Mountains biggest attendance Summer in a WHILE.

I think there are about 1000 cars that fit in each lot, going to the overflow that's what about 3000 cars? At $20 a pop that's $60,000 in the parks pocket before people even walk up to the ticket booth. Gnarly!

Has to be Memorial day mostly but I expect multiple hour waits on TC every weekend for a long time. I am going tomorrow to the ERT and I am guessing it won't be more than an hour(during the ert). Weekday and schools still in session. My plan is to get maybe 2-3 rides in ERT that's with me being right at the gate right at opening. Then it should get to at least an hour probably 1 1/2 to 2. But my only plan is to ride it in the morning. If the line is very long go to school or work people! lol. Glad I got in 5 rides Friday. Once summer hits I can't imagine the line, i'll probably only ride it if i'm there at 10:20 or on rainy days(not like we have any of those often).

Think this will be open on rainy days?

Depends on how efficiently the crew is dispatching and filling the trains, but the only determinant of capacity is how often a train of a quantity of riders is dispatched. Running three trains itself does not make a ride more efficient than a shorter rider running two. Some quick calculations/estimations, and assuming a best case scenario under realistic conditions...

90 seconds/dispatch x 22 riders/dispatch = 880 pph. In all reality it's probably consistently between 600 and 900/hour.
