SF buys AZ land?
VegasCoaster replied to GoldRusheROCKS's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I would love that, I highly highly highly doubt this will happen. I remember the rumor being that the park was to be inbetween Tucson and Phoenix once, which actually to me would make more sense as Phoenix is moving in that general direction, and its quite populated all the way to the outskirts, plus Tucson is another million people to add to possible customers. But still, all of these are just rumors and not one is true. -
What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?
VegasCoaster replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
X scared me a bit before I got on, but aside from that I haven't really been afraid of anything, been on X-Scream three times, Insanity twice, and would love to go on a Starflyer or a SCAD tower when I can go somewhere that has one. -
Google Coaster Video
VegasCoaster replied to brygee910's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Those were some of the most interesting facial expressions I've ever seen. Hopefully she becomes an enthusiast, she seemed to like that ride at least 20% of the time. -
I really can't make up my mind between Psyclone @ SFMM or Flashback @ SFMM. Manhattan Express is up there too, but I've never had a truly horrible ride on it yet, and I won't pay 12.50 to have one.

Overbanked turns on a Woodie
VegasCoaster replied to Three's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd say a woodie with an overbank could happen earlier than that. Really you could do an overbank with toothpicks if you wanted, its just a matter of feasibility. If you were to make a completely wood overbank it would need a lot of wood, which would get fatigued rather easily, and would need to be replaced often. Personally I don't see the point of making woodies more like steel coasters, they need to just be themselves and stop trying to be steel coasters. Granted in some layouts certain elements might work well, but if there aren't any laterals then its not much of a woodie, which is why I think GG is so good, they incorporate a bit of everything. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
VegasCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thinking about this a bit more, in the event of it being an aquatrax, it probably won't be themed as it is Cedar Point, and neglecting that, I think it would be quite hard to theme a ride to red track, unless you were going for a more modern theme, which doesn't fit with the area. It would look somewhat weird having all the old west theming and bright red track. If it is to be an aquatrax, it may have a bit more of an emphasis on the coaster aspect (inversions, airtime etc.) and mildly incorporate the water bit. As for the capacity issue, couldn't that change radically with the layout of the ride? As long as there are sufficient blocks, it could have a decent capacity, or perhaps they can use slightly different trains, like an actual train consisting of more than one car. -
Top Thrill Dragster Question
VegasCoaster replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah that would be the deal braker for this. Most of the tower supporting the tophat would have to be redesigned to hold the extra weight of the track, different angles, and the pullouts probably would have to be reprofiled slightly. I don't think making the hyrdraulic engine launch you faster would be that much of an issue, but I'm not sure how close to the max the engine is at currently. But yeah accounting for all the extra track on the tower would create a lot of re-engineering and some interesting connections to the existing support structure. -
"Tower of Terror" concept
VegasCoaster replied to Cerberus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You have somehow managed to thwart all my aspirations of ever being invovled with Disney with this amazing concept work you keep putting out. I seriously need about 10 years of drawing/photoshop classes to catch up with this. Amazing stuff, keep up the god work, and maybe some Disney spies will find you or something, but its deifinately high quality work, and at their level. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
VegasCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was just thinking it could be an aquatrax coaster myself. I don't know if they would do a hyper version of it or opt for something more like Atlantis Adventure at Lotte World, but either way that would be interesting and having actually go into the lake would be going in a new direction literally and with the coaster styles they are building. I personally wish it wasn't an Intamin as Cedar Point seems to slowly being turned into Intamin Point, but any new ride will be good. -

VegasCoaster replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I liked the ride, but will also admit that it is over rated. I didn't find the launch that intense, but it is the most intense launch I have been on, I just know there has to be launches out there such as the S&S's and Xcelerator which pack a bit more of a punch, or as some put it a kick in the chest. If there isn't a huge wait, sure its worth a ride, and it is an adrenaline rush, there's just so much more you can do with a launch ride than go up and down. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
VegasCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, that picture didn't look real to me. And back on to topic oh my god does that thing carry speed. I was thinking the momentum was running out after that break, and then you drop into the tunnel and come out going even faster it looks like. I am definately going to ride this when I get back to school next year, its only like 3-4 hours away. -
Zorb coming to Pigeon Forge.
VegasCoaster replied to Johnny Upsidedown's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Anyone else find this bit on their website funny?: "Where the chance to mutilate yourself and die a terrible death while screaming your lungs out is replaced by the chance to partake in a totally bizarre and fun experience protected by a MASSIVE cushion of air with no chance of mutilation or death while screaming your lungs out." Seems like a rather fun thing to do, especially the ones they have running through a trough. -
Can launches replace the lift hill?
VegasCoaster replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I believe several companies are now looking into family launched rides. I don't think I would particularly like to see lift hills disappear. I don't even know that I like the idea of throwing faster lifts on rides, especially woodies. I don't think a launched woodie would be that great actually, just a very novel idea, but I think it'd look strange without the lift hill, and it just wouldn't feel like a woodie. More like a steel coaster with an identity crisis. -
Rollercoaster books
VegasCoaster replied to rollercoaster1234's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I highly reccomend The Incredible Scream Machine: A history of the Roller Coaster by Robert Cartmell. Kind of hard to come across, but worth the buy. -
I have an iron stomach for most anything, save for Paratroopers or anything where I can control my spinning as I tend to overdo it. Me and a friend once went to The Adventuredome at Circus Circus and went upside down 120 times in a day riding Canyon Blaster, Inverter, and Chaos. Its weird that the only thing that gets me queasy is the Paratrooper ride, as I've been on many more intense rides than that. As for spinning I once nearly lost it on a carousel in Belgium by the Atomium they have a park with many versions of famous landmarks, and that park had a two story carousel with a teacup attached to one side. Me and my hosts span us around so fast we were feeling the rotation, and then I was looking all around to try and get myself to feel dizzy, so I kind of deserved it, but it was fun.

Don't think I've seen a coaster like this from GCI off the top of my head, and frankly, it looks awesome! Wish I could ride it sometime but it looks like it'll have airtime (not that some GCI's don't have air). -
I went on Excalibur last year, and it was a decent ride. Was a great way to dry off after the raft ride, and it had some decent forces too. I actually liked the ride a lot, but if they had stopped it at the top etc. as someone said, it would have been a lot more interesting. My favorite part is just watching the horizon flip and flip and flip when the ride is a quarter way through the rotation.

Six Flags St. Louis
VegasCoaster replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last time I went to SFSTL it was a Sat. during Labor day weekend, and lets see, Mr. Freeze was empty till you got to the station, Boss was the same, Batman was the same, Ninja was a walk on, Screaming Eagle had about a 5 minute wait. The longest line was for the rapids ride. That all could be due to how hot it was, but seeing as the temp hit the 90s yesterday, you might be in good shape to have the same stuff, but then again it might snow, it is St. Louis afterall. -
What Roller Coaster are you?
VegasCoaster replied to l3ite_me1313's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
MF again. I somehow feel that 5 questions can't be enough for determining similarity to anything though. -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Question
VegasCoaster replied to TheMan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll be going May 17th which is a Wednesday. Not expecting huge crowds but I was wondering when all the high schools start getting out. Hoping to get on every roller coaster open, even if that includes Psyclone, I need the credit. -
How did you end up here???
VegasCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I found this via Westcoster, though I lurked in the shadows for quite a while and then joined, and immediately returned to poster obscurity. -
CLIFF'S AMUSEMENT PARK PHOTO TR 4-2-06
VegasCoaster replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My girlfriend and I are making a giant road trip on the way back to my house from school and we were hoping to stop by Wonderland in Amarillo and Cliff's on the way to Vegas but Cliff's is only open on the weekends we go through NM, which will be a Friday. I really want to ride Rattler at some time, heard some good things.
