Roller Coaster on a Cruise Ship?
VegasCoaster replied to ducky's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Something the size of a roller coaster would probably be considered in the design of the cruise ship so it probably shouldn't be a problem. You could probably do anything you could think of as long as you knew the ship was going to have to resist those motions. You probably could do something similar to a Schwartzkopf travelling ride where you build a giant frame for the coaster to rest on to spread the load or have the supports attach to the actual structural members of the ship. The bigger problem would be the ride itself as if the boat is swaying due to waves it may produce interesting forces and the ride may experience higher wind loads out at sea, but yet again if you take all that into consideration they wouldn't be a problem. If you wanted to get really interesting you could use earthquake engineering on the entire support structure in order to resist the movements of the boat. -
As for coaster with most airtime that would be Voyage as it holds the record and has great airtime (haven't been on an Intamin woodie though so keep that in mind). Had my cell phone get knocked out of the holster while riding due to slamming into the lapbar. As for the best airtime I think Intamin gets that vote as its so smooth yet so forceful, although I like Arrow's ejector I'm going to bruise your thighs airtime too.

Waterslide that goes up without jets?
VegasCoaster replied to ArrowHater's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That looks like an awesome water slide. As for how far they are going to push it I am just waiting until someone breaks the bank and puts together every ProSlide slide known to man into one. Essentially imagine a 7 story water slide where you're in cloverleaf rafts, go down a normal fully enclosed slide for a few hundred feet (lighting effects of course) and then drop into one of the smaller tornado bowls, lead that out into a small drop followed by their conveyor propelled launch system to get you back to a decent height, even more typical enclosed sliding and then drop into a giant 60' Bowl and then finally hit the splash down. That would make one hell of a slide in my opinion, space intensive and expensive at hell, but that would probably be a record no one would be beating for a while. -

I think if you are going fast enough on any turn on a waterslide you can hit 90* as long as you have the overbank section on it, my girlfriend and I did that on a few of the slides there last weekend. I really liked the park and I'm glad they are getting a few new rides as I have an escuse to have a road trip next semester too now. -
Scary POV video
VegasCoaster replied to kelmikey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What I want to know is how he was going to fall out of what looks like a 5 point harness, or at least something like that and why the mom was fine the entire time. It looks like he just slouched a bit though the restraint should have kept him in. -
The Mega Dead Celebrity Thread
VegasCoaster replied to frozenflames's topic in Random, Random, Random
I find it sad and actually somewhat amusing that he died like that, filming a show called The Ocean's Deadliest or something similar to that and that he was an expert in that field, but it is sad to see him go. Few TV personalities also had the actual experience and knowledge to back up what they say, but he was one of them. -
So if my dream is to be a Disney imagineer, do they have to make that come true? This sounds like a pretty cool promotion as it makes it seem like every time you go to the park you are possibly winning something, and if one of those things is to go to every Disney park in the world then holy crap I need to go buy a season pass now.

Best And Worst Coaster In California
VegasCoaster replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: X Worst: Flashback , because although some coasters are boring at least they aren't painful. -

I love that the copyright date is still in some of the photos as a side note. -
Video TR: My Life Without TPR...
VegasCoaster replied to Ryan King's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Good job on the video and the recreation of the Vekoma experience. Maybe you could recreate Manhattan Express if you could fall down both parts of the staircase in a box but that turn might be hard and somewhat painful. Come to think of it then its a perfect recreation! -

Five minutes? Wow you must have lost a lot. Not too bad for a quick game. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
VegasCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm actually wondering if its the engineering or the construction side of things that failed. Usually there are factors of safety on everything done in engineering to prevent failures, so it might not be the design of the ride, it might be an inferior piece of wood used, as a lot of wood will have knots in it or other imperfections. Also the design of Rattler may allow for deformations to occur more than other designs by other firms, though all wood will deform, which is good becuase it snaps otherwise. -
manhattan express trains
VegasCoaster replied to map2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They could add standup trains like they did on a few Arrow mine trains in the 80's I believe, that way you get some momentum before slamming your head into the restraints. -
Coasters with high G's
VegasCoaster replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The height of the drop still has little relevance to how many g's it actually pulls, what matters for g-forces is the radius of the turn, in just about every case. You can be going 30 mph through a helix and be fine, but if that turn has an obscenely small radius like 5 feet, and that will generate higher forces. Likewise if you have a 100 foot drop, not all that exciting, if you shorten the bottom of the hill it starts racking up the g-forces. G force tolerance also depends on which direction, including along the length of the track, which is why pretzel loops seem so intense because the human body isn't built to handle high g-forces in that position, which may also explain why Dodonpa is described as being kicked in the chest. -

I remember the initial concept of having a Coney Island Cyclone clone as the coaster way back before it was built. I would have much rather have had that! Would have loved to have had a woodie in my hometown when I was growing up (and still living there). -
They also have a Tickets2Nite at the Showcase Mall next to the MGM Grand (Its in the giant Coke bottle). If you have money (or you win a considerable amount), any of the Cirque Shows are pretty cool, granted you won't have any damn idea what the actual plot of the story is unless you have degrees in avant garde theater, interpretive dance, and music theory, but they are cool, and if the Beatles are your kind of music they have a new show at the Mirage called LOVE all done to original recordings of the Beatles (mixed of course) in a theater with some ungodly sound system. As for any clubs, Andre Agassi has one at Caesars thats supposed to be damn good and popular as hell called PURE, Venetian has TAO, Luxor has RA, and more or less its a law in Vegas that all good clubs must be in all caps. Some local casinos are worth checking out; namely Casino Monte Lago at Lake Las Vegas, Green Valley Ranch Station Hotel and Casino (The District is there which is pretty cool), and newly opened Red Rock Station.

manhattan express trains
VegasCoaster replied to map2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I might have actually ridden it a month ago had they had new trains, maybe the sensation of being beaten to death might be fixed. Magnetic breaks would be interesting too. Was the ride down any significant amount of time to allow those to be installed? -
Most Disappointing Coaster!
VegasCoaster replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm casting my vote for whatever Cedar Point gets next year judging by the impossible amounts of hype it currently has. My real vote has to be Superman: The Escape, which was about as forceful as Bench: The Ride. I actually really liked X when I actually got to ride it last month, not the smoothest, but some interesting forces. -
It just amazed me
VegasCoaster replied to calcajun's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really could care less about the whole park safety issue. If someone decides to go off the path and then venture into the coaster's direct path, they will be sued, at least in America, so thats their choice. The worst part of someone walking into the coaster would be the negative press as far as I'm concerned. I would to a certain extent mourn the loss of life, but it would be entirely that persons fault, and would make a great Darwin Award. I never quite bought the fact that other countries are smarter than the US, but this would be some evidence that would sway me. -
SF buys AZ land?
VegasCoaster replied to GoldRusheROCKS's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I would love that, I highly highly highly doubt this will happen. I remember the rumor being that the park was to be inbetween Tucson and Phoenix once, which actually to me would make more sense as Phoenix is moving in that general direction, and its quite populated all the way to the outskirts, plus Tucson is another million people to add to possible customers. But still, all of these are just rumors and not one is true. -
What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?
VegasCoaster replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
X scared me a bit before I got on, but aside from that I haven't really been afraid of anything, been on X-Scream three times, Insanity twice, and would love to go on a Starflyer or a SCAD tower when I can go somewhere that has one.
