Supermarket Credit?
VegasCoaster replied to Not For Sale's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Did I hear correctly that the store is 5 stories tall? How small of a footprint is this store on to need 5 stories. I know space is a premium there more than anywhere else but I still can't imagine needing 5 floors of food. Not to mention how hard it would be to get carts around in that so this coaster thing makes a lot of sense. -
Has anyone seen this video?
VegasCoaster replied to aslinterpreter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah I think both of them can be given credit to contributing to our laughter. It doesn't look like the kids even tried to stop the thing. I think I came close to tailgaiting the people in front of me when I got to ride an alpine slide at Big Bear in CA, but no where near close enough to hit anyone. They stop on a dime. -
Happy Valley Now Open!
VegasCoaster replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to change my pants now thanks. But seriously that park looks beatiful. Its a shame that it'll be a dang long time before I can go over there. That has to be the best theming I've seen in a non-Disney/ IOA park in a while. I love how even the Frisbee has the snakes which are climbing the columns. I do agree that even though the Disk-O is in a different themed area that it still needs to be a bit more themed. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Seeing as thats the only compnaint I have along with many other people holy cow! -
^Enjoys Seinfeld < Is not in fact the real soup nazi, but did see an episode of Scrubs where Tara Reid is dating the real soup nazi V Has seen a flying Moose

Cruising with Theme Park Review!
VegasCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a question Robb. Are the extra things on the boat (eg. basketball, mini-golf and rock climbing) included in the price for the cruise or do you have to pay more once you are on the cruise for them? I'm considering going on a cruise for Spring Break. -
2nd time not such a charm?
VegasCoaster replied to canada's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Boss at SFSTL. Rode it once in the very early morning in the front and then went back an hour or so later and it beat the snot out of me. Haven't had a good ride on it since. I blame Six Flags maintenence and the Gerstlauer trains. -
Photo Trip Report: Disneyland 1958
VegasCoaster replied to JimmyBo's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Its cool to see these old photo TR's. Amazing how even the surrounding area doesn't look that crowded. I have a map from Disneyland sometime in the 60's and some tickets from the first year of operation somewhere in my house. Its just cool to see how it used to look back then. -
DCA: perplexing security incident
VegasCoaster replied to flyingspin's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm really surprised that if it does anything there aren't any signs around it as you should NEVER trust anyone not to push a button, especially if it does something potentially dangerous. Put a cover over it, warning signs or something. Buttons are just too much of a tempting to push. There's just something about them, especially the ones that say don't push. -
Is there a new Window's Media version or codec or something I need to see the videos because none of them are showing up for me. Looks like you guys had a great time from the pictures. I love IKEA but the stores are too big, they take about 1-2 hours just to walk through. Good stuff there though, good and cheap.

I don't know if this was announced or anything but the two silos seem to be a ride as well. They look like the towers at Legoland where you pull yourself up and "freefall" down, so at least they have theming and are keeping it a family oriented park. I don't know what else they could do with the shops etc. I mean I'm sure they are missing some trades but they can't be missing that many.

While it is sad to hear that Disney/theme parks will get blasted yet again by the media for being out to get your old people, children etc. I can't feel too sorry for this case. Hell if the camera fell out of the tram which was moving at a pretty good rate, it probably wasn't even worth going back for as it would be a miracle if it worked. I'm just going to wait until we have to have OTSR's or 5 point harnesses on these.

^He's right. They don't say anything about height, but it doesn't matter if its a Vekoma as they will all be wearing helmets. Hell Togo could build it considering that.

I did a search on this and nothing turned up so I figured I'd tell you guys about this. For those of you who liked Bruce Almighty, a sequel is coming out Summer 2007 starring Steve Carell (Evan Baxter in the last move, and this one coincidentally). The preview doesn't show too much aside from Evan is being called upon to build an Ark. Knowing that Steve Carell is in it, I'm pretty excited as he's a great actor / comedian, so I'm going to bet it'll be good. Trailer: Evan Almighty

2006 Coaster Season Stats
VegasCoaster replied to DerekRx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My year was good for me, but pathetic when compared to most. I went to SFMM, SFSTL, Holiday World, and Silver Dollar City. I seriously think thats about it. That gives me Tatsu and The Voyage for new for 2006 (at least both were great), X, Goliath, Deja Vu and everything at SDC and HW for new to me. Everything else was just re-riding things, but were pretty enjoyable (save Psyclone). -
Photo TR: SFSTL Closing Day (10/29/06)
VegasCoaster replied to VegasCoaster's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I've heard from somewhere (I think Screamscape) that a few people already have pics of survey markers, but I didn't think to look. Just enjoying the day. Oh and a great GP moment was when a guy behind me was talking with his girlfriend about how Superman was great, but it would be better if they could shoot you up somehow. They then decided that was impossible due to the force needed. I had to fight the urge to turn around and tell them all about S&S and how all of that stuff works. -
Here goes my 2nd Photo TR! We got to the park at around 3 since I had some homework to take care of before I could enjoy myself, which actually turned out to be just enough time to do eveything worth while. I would have pictures from Fright Fest but my camera battery decided to start dying in the line for Superman: Tower of Tower of Steel: The Ride. Not that I would have had many pictures because the line for just about all the Fright Fest things seemed to be three hours long. Did get a few good night rides on Boss, Screamin' Eagle and Mr. Freeze though. Aside from not getting to do anything Halloweeny aside from the one scare zone, we had a very fun and enjoyable day at Six Flags St. Louis (now the most dangerous city in the US and the home of the Nation's best baseball team!). Without further ado, the pictures! Mr. Freeze at night. Had I not taken this picture I would have been able to take a picture of the double train operation. The Boss did beat the snot out of us though. Its a shame this was riding so horrible otherwise it would be my favorite ride in the park. Ninja didn't beat us up too badly this time. Some loop action for Derek. Also new for this year was the Bugs Bunny National Park kids area. They have some good rides for the kiddies and a playground. This was running but had way too long of a line when we first tried, so we'd have to come back later. This is probably my favorite ride in the park next to Batman, especially at night. It is a nice addition to the park and offers a very good view of the entire park. This is the queue for the "new" Intamin drop tower, Superman: Power of Erection or something like that. Does anyone else think its weird that superboy has steel teeth? At night it was hard to even see here because every fog machine SFStL owns was here. I wasn't going to pay $6 to go on this especially seeing as it was this or food. This was more what I was expecting theming wise. Spooky! For some odd reason they had guys dressed up as trolls talking to each other around here. Not really scaring anyone, just standing around and talking. Horray for mirror image clones! When we got in line something went wrong with the lift motor so we had to come back later. This lovely headless horseman was up near the front entrance greeting guests. As I said the theming was better than I was expecting (tells you a bit about my expectations). The park actually had some theming for Fright Fest. Granted it is no where near most other parks but it was more than I was expecting. While we were walking towards the front gate I couldn't help but notice Mr. Freeze was actually running! They had two train operation at night but camera didn't have any juice left by then so I have no photographic evidence. The parking lot actually wasn't too full for coming to the park late and it being Fright Fest and all.

Zero. But I read it at least once a day depending on how much I'm on here. How many roller coasters have you ridden?
-
Alan. I don't have any rides named after me, but I do share a name with an Arrow employee.

This seems like a masochist's paradise, with good theming. -
Photo TR - Closing day at CP
VegasCoaster replied to MonkeyPants's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I am jealous of your camera and your photography skills. I've taken some decent shots but nothing like these (at least of coasters). I especially love the TTD through the mist at night one. -
More pictures! Thunderation's helix of doom...backwards! The flooded mine was fun, especially when the ride ops just let you circle around a few times. Actually they let you do that on every ride. As a part of the craftsman stuff they had this incredibly cute cow Mary Anne WildFire's station theming Yay creditwhoring!

Pictures! They do have fire with their show though, so they do get some points for that one. Branson is kind of like Vegas but with morals, which doesn't seem to work as well. Branson trying to be Vegas. ooohhh. Spooky. Marvel cave was pretty cool. I reccomend it! This place was supposed to have veggie appropriate soup but the sign lied to us. That and there were about a million times I misread the name. Mmmm... Large quantities of food, but not so good for the veggies. This ride was actually pretty good, though a bit painful when riding backwards. There was lots of theming like this everywhere. Lots of trees! I loved how this was just cut out of the forest. This was not a smart idea. So we'll go on this instead! Closed. Boooo. (It did open at around 2). One of the helixes on the Lumberjack at the Branson Track number 5,982 Me with the little kid they were juggling with their feet. The New Shanghai Theater, home of some amazing acrobats

For fall break (all one day of it) my girlfriend and I went to Branson as its close, different, and cheaper than Chicago. We drove from St. Louis to Branson with relatively few incidents and arrived at the Branson Tourism Center / Gas station to buy see what they had show wise and buy some tickets. We wanted to see something amazingly hokey to fit the Branson atmosphere but Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede was sold out so we bought tickets to see the New Shanghai Circus. We also bought tickets to SDC here, which is a really good deal as you get a two day pass for the price of one day admission if you buy your tickets from them. Sweetness! Right after trying to leave there my battery decided to die so we found a nice local who jumped our car so we could buy a new battery. After that good hour of fun we went to the outlet malls to see if there were any amazing deals and then headed to one of four of The Tracks in Branson (they're a go-kart place called The Track). We rode the lumberjack which is a large wooden go-kart track with somewhat slow karts which shake you to death (still not as bad as Psyclone). Soon after that we checked into our hotel and went to a Chinese Buffet before our show. If you are in Branson I would highly reccomend the New Shanghai Circus as they do some amazing stuff. They had one act where one kid juggles this little kid with his feet, flipping him upside down while people jump between them. If I had a picture it would help describe this, but they weren't allowed. Day 2: This day was entirely devoted to SDC, which is an awesome park with a very friendly atmosphere. The park seems to have tried to save every tree they could as they are everywhere in the park giving it a nice atmosphere. Also the theming was impeccable compared to what I was expecting. The craftsmen really added to the atmosphere and the combination of all of this made it impossible to find anything in the park without a map since you can't see anything. After finding out that Powder Keg was closed we rode WildFire a few times and became amazingly confused after going on Fire in the Hole without knowing what a baldknobber was. We then made a really dumb move by going on American Plunge in October, which was fun but made me cold the rest of the day. While I really wanted to try some of the food from the huge skillets or the cheeseburger soup, my girlfriend is vegetarian and there weren't many veggie friendly places. Luckily funnel cakes are vegetarian so we downed a pumpkin spice funnel cake (wasn't around long enough to get a picture of it), which was delicious. It started to sprinkle so we headed home, stopping at a Mexican restaurant on the way back, but being from Tucson I wasn't too impressed, but it was decent. That night we went to the Branson Landing which looks to be a brand new New-Urbanism condo complex with shops on the bottom and condos on top. As with Branson tradition they tried to be Vegas with a quasi Bellago-esque water/fire show, which was pretty cool. Day 3: Since we had two day passes to SDC we took advantage of that, and rode Powder Keg a few times, did a bit of credit whoring with the kiddie coaster, and rode some of the other rides we had skipped. I was really disoriented after Grandfather's Mansion which had some amazing effects in the bottom floor where we were literally running into walls without trying to (everything is built on an angle). On the drive home we tried to stop at Lambert's (home of throwed rolls) but there was a 2 hour wait (about 4 times longer than anything in the park all weekend), so we ate at Olive Garden on the way home. I hope you enjoyed the novel and the pictures to come!
