The parking lot is gone, and the plantings are just about to start actually. GA has no real parking lot coasters (like the California parks). The coasters built over the former parking lot (GASM and SUF) had all the blacktop removed or covered over, and the King is getting similar treament.

This picture shows what I mean: http://www.gadv.com/Construction/A21805/1.jpg. You can't really see it but the parking lot fences are pretty well planted with trees as well.

I'm impressed with how much SFGadv is doing to this whole area! I was really afraid that they'd be spending however many tens of millions of dollars on this coaster and having my old parking space right there underneath the track. Looks like it will be nice and green by May. Can't wait to be sitting on the launch track scared to death! Or at least taking advantage of shorter NITRO lines.

Seriously what is with the west coast Six Flags? I mean seriously I thought that they would at least throw up a few trees or something. I mean it just looks so crappy putting up a ride over a parking lot. If they had put some themed tunnels in or something it would have been cool but west coast Medusa is pathetic.

Thats basically a Parking lot coaster, they poured rocks on top of it, it looks horrible

I'll take red and white rocks done as flag stripes on top of the blacktop any day over just having it over parking lot lines. And in the case of SUF, they ripped out all the blacktop and planted grass. I wouldn't say it looks "horrible", especially in comparison to Scream and Medusa West.

JACKSON — The Six Flags Great Adventure theme park and the accompanying Wild Safari are to open for the season Friday, but this year's new attraction — possibly the biggest in the park's 31-year history — is weeks away from coming on line.

As expected, Kingda Ka, the world's tallest (456 feet) and fastest (128 mph) roller coaster, will not be ready for riders Friday.

"I can't wait for that new roller coaster to open," said Hank Wollman, 72, of Union Beach.

Wollman rode his first coaster when he was about 5 years old at Coney Island in his native Brooklyn. The computer salesman and consultant hopes to ride Kingda Ka the first day available.

Six Flags, which operates the family amusement complex on Route 537, is "aiming for late April (or) early May" to open Kingda Ka, said spokeswoman Kristin Siebeneicher.

Coming on Friday are two new shows — Dolphin Discovery: Island Party, a tropical islands-themed dolphin show providing for interaction with guests, and the Looney Tunes-We Got the Beat children's show with cartoon characters interacting with guests.

Great Adventure will have various roaming characters, such as a pirate, an Old West woman and 1930s-era beach-goers mingling with guests, Siebeneicher said.

"All are to get guests involved in the action," Siebeneicher said.

The theme park will add two more security kiosks, bringing the number to five, to assist guests, Siebeneicher said. And Great Adventure will continue to funnel guests through metal detectors and check carry-in bags, Siebeneicher said.

Security officers will patrol inside the theme park and in its parking lot, Siebeneicher said.

To deter guests from cutting in lines, security officers will be posted at major rides, Siebeneicher said. A numbered-pass system will go into effect this year at Kingda Ka and the other two most popular rides — the Nitro and Superman-Ultimate Flight coasters, she said.

All of the park's 50 existing rides, except water rides, are scheduled to be on line Friday, Siebeneicher said. The water rides are to open with warmer temperatures, she said.

Hurricane Harbor, the water park at the site, is to open May 28.

Another new offering are "Safari Express" buses for rides from Great Adventure into the Wild Safari animal park. While the Wild Safari is normally included in theme park admission, the shuttle service will be extra — $9.99 per person or $5 for those with season passes.

Season pass-holders will have preferred parking near the main entrance, which they must enter this year, Siebeneicher said. Their former special parking area is being replaced by the theme park's Golden Kingdom section, Siebeneicher said.

"Every department has a focus on guest service this year," Siebeneicher said.

Adult daily passes to Great Adventure are $47.99, up $2.

Besides Kingda Ka, other new Great Adventure attractions, according to Siebeneicher, are to open a few weeks into the season:

Balin's Jungleland for children, expected in mid-April. It includes "Tigerland Treehouse," a 3-story-tall play structure with slides, cargo nets and bridges. It also will have five rides for younger children, or those under 4 1/2-feet-tall.

"This section replaces Bugs Bunny Land," said Siebeneicher, referring to the children's area that operated until last season. "This is a cutting edge, new addition for small children."

Temple of the Tiger, a 33,000-square-foot tiger-habitat where guests can watch trainers work with tigers and ask the trainers questions. Expected to open with Balin's Jungleland.

Spirit of the Tiger, a Broadway-type show with tigers and other animals, dancing and acrobatics at a new 1,000-seat amphitheater. Expected in late April.

Kingda Ka, Balin's Jungleland and the tiger exhibits are all part of the new, approximately 11-acre area, Golden Kingdom. Golden Kingdom should be fully operating when Kingda Ka opens.

"We are working seven days a week to open (Golden Kingdom) as soon as we can," Siebeneicher said.

"There is no doubt that Kingda Ka is the top stop for ultimate thrill-seekers from around the world," said Rick McCurley, general manager of the local Six Flags. "And our youngest guests experience the same level of thrill and adventure in the Golden Kingdom as they journey through Balin's Jungleland and Temple of the Tiger."

A variety of performers are to do concerts — Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Bowling for Soup, Raven, All American Rejects, Jesse McCartney, Gin Blossoms, Kool & the Gang, Newsboys and Trace Adkins.

Wollman plans on going to Great Adventure Sunday.

"I'm going to ride all the coasters," said Wollman, who figures he has rode more than 100 coasters. "I just came back from California (and rode coasters there). My sister thinks I went to visit her."

As for Kingda Ka, workers began installing the coaster's trains last week. The next big phase will be testing the ride with dummies, which probably will begin next week, Siebeneicher said.

Actually, thats sad. I wish they wouldnt have done that with the monkeys. Ive heard some hilarious stories of people taking in junker cars and purposly going through the monkey area to see what they could do.

Ive never been through, but was looking forward to that...till now.

Kingda Ka was given the greenlight today by NJ at about 2 O'Clock, and ran its first circuit with passengers... This is all according to http://www.gadv.com and has been proven true. I'm sure pictures and more news are soon to come. On top of all that, others have reported that the commercial was filmed today as well.

It is according to this article (in German).

The crappy Babelfish translation:

After Colossos and Balder now a roller coaster for the USA

17.05.2005

Timber building construction Cordes works on the entrance into the American market

Waffensen. (bn). After "Colossos", the largest roller coaster of the world in the heath park Soltau, and "Balder" in the Goeteborger recreational park Liseberg, excellently as "the best wood roller coaster of the world", the company Ingenieur-Holzbau Cordes in Waffensen designs a new giant for breath-robbing leisure fun now: a roller coaster for the park "Six flag - adventure" New York close in Jackson (new jersey) great.

Zurzeit are still busy with last job planning engineers of the 50-Mitarbeiter-Betriebes, then the skilled workers with their machines at the row come. The third roller coaster - like its two predecessor inside from heath Kiefern - leans in its building method strongly against "Colossos" and is in the spring coming yearly into enterprise to go. It is the first roller coaster from Waffensen, which makes the journey over the large pond into the USA. In August the weekly partial transportation begin at Bremerhaven - altogether 80 containers will be necessary.

Engeneering graduate Heinrich Cordes (64), that together with its son Ulf (39), engeneering graduate and diploma operation manager, at the point of the now 100 years old enterprise stands, is proud: "we are in the professional world by two punktlandungen admit become." He means with it the quality and date loyalty with the two first orders for roller coaster.

Cordes is pleased about order for US: "we expect thereby the entrance into the North American market. Naturally a further punktlandung requires. I think that we will be concerned in the future more frequently with tasks of timber construction on international market."

A special honor is it for Cordes and its coworkers that the roller coaster for the recreational park in Goeteborg (Sweden), built in Waffensen, was selected to the best world - under 156 wood roller coasters, which there are altogether. For the arrow-fast "Balder" a surface area of only 6,450 square meters was available. Here a special measure of precision and planning security were demanded, in order to establish close together with refined Schlenkern a 1,100 meters long course, on which the cars with up to 95 kilometers per hour hunt along.

"Colossos" was for Cordes before five years the entrance into the building of roller coasters. , the 64-jaehrige boss remembers self-assurance and courage, in addition already heard after competitors would have made a backdown. Accurately as intended, the 60 meters high giant with a route distance of 1,500 meters and a maximum speed of speed confessed 120. "Colossos" consists of approximately 120,000 individual parts. Its life span - which is wood impregnated - becomes estimated on at least 50 years.

Heinrich Cordes, which expects Minister attendance from Hanover shortly with its coworkers, presents still another further respectable order: 50 earthquake-proof single family houses for Iran. The 64-Jaehrige expects still substantially larger orders, which include the building of schools and kindergartens from the Islamic republic.

Heinrich Cordes is pleased: He builds his third roller coaster for the recreational park "Six flag - adventure" jersey new in Jackson in the state great (behind Cordes in the picture: "Balder", excellently as "the best roller coaster of the world")

This was a pretty reliable rumor for the last 3 or 4 years now.

Reasons it IS true:

- PR woman quoted as saying 'they were watching Colossos very carefully, because they think that it would work well at SFGAd".

- Intamin often signs multiride deals with parks

- The park could use a wooden coaster

- Seems like SFGAd is now getting the 'flagship, compete with CP' treatment instead of SFMM

Reasons it ISN't True:

- 2 Huge Cost, Big projects back to back

- Six Flags has Problems with wood and Intamin

- Hard to believe it would be confirmed before their current coaster even opens

All I have to say is I'm going to be damn pissed if SFGAd gets two big intamin rides back to back while SFMM still basks in the glory of X and Deja Vu!!!!!

Elissa "hopes it's true, the Intamin Woodies are AWESOME!" Alvey
