PhillyFlash65
Hey Zenith! I can even remember when that ride existed in Palisades Park. It was about 1970 and they called it the Love Bug. It was painted all psychedelic colors. It rocked! The first drops were similiar( but more intense) to a haunted house layout that was common then, but then the indoor dark coaster blew away any lame neon black-lit theming. HCOSurfer90
I remember that ride from when I was around 4. It was one of my first "big" coasters along with the now removed Jet Star. Gosh I havent been there in so long, but now since my aunt moved by there, I can finally go there for the first time in 10 years.
chaos
I didn't even know that ride existed, but I'm glad they're bringing it back. It looks cool.
Astat
Wizard's Cavern...wasn't that the old Broadway Trip at Cedar Point? Wow, that's like mid-1960's, that ride lasted a long time for a coaster that travelled that much.
DerekRx
^Yup, Wizards Cavern used to be Lovebug at Palisades, and before that it was Broadway Trip at CP. There were pictures of it in the CP museum. Glad they're bringing a similar ride back to the area, though I'm curious how "ready" it will be for summer, since the summer is pretty much more than half over. Looking forward to the construction pictures.
ECZenith
Here's the entire list of places this exact ride appeared. I'll have construction photos of Pirate's Hideaway within the hour, btw. Fun Forest Amusement Park as Broadway Trip (Built in 1962) Cedar Point as Broadway Trip Palisades Amusement Park as Broadway Trip Palisades Amusement Park as Love Bugs Canadian National Exhibition as Love Bugs Casino Pier as Wizard's Cavern (Demolished 2003) This info is from RCDB.com
ECZenith
Here are the construction photos. I'm sorry but there are only two, I only had a couple shots left on the camera. The brand new "pirate ships" have just recently arrived and will serve as the coaster's individual cars. This should be a neat little ride. Here is the show building with about half the track installed. As you can see, the coaster will have a few bunny hops on the top level just like Wizard's Cavern. Just out of view is the "big drop" which is on the right side. It was only about half done
Rider117
I saw this last night, sadly I didn't bring my camera. I loved Wizard's Cavern and this will be awesome.
Nrthwnd
Fun Forest Amusement Park as Broadway Trip (Built in 1962) This info is from RCDB.com Actually, before there was the Fun Forest - in 1962 the Broadway Trip made it's debut at the Seattle World's Fair. And it was called The GAYWAY The "Fun Forest" actually 'debuted' the following year. Just a little piece of triv.
ECZenith
And it's OLDER than I even thought? Wow, this thing definately lived out it's lifetime for a portable-ish ride. I just noticed Casino Pier has updated their site to incluide the ride, saying it's based on a CP classic. What a beautiful thing to see new life given to this concept. http://www.casinopiernj.com/pier/rides.html
ECZenith
*Rider117, seeing how you live right next door to the thing... have you seen the coaster recently, any updates?

ECZenith
Sorry to bump up an old thread, but Pirate's Hideaway is open and has been for a little while. Little has been said about this dark ride/coaster hybrid but it looks pretty sharp! http://www.rcdb.com/ig3619.htm I hope to go out there after my Cedar Point trip to review and video the ride. Rider117
It hasn't opened yet as of this past weekend. I'll be in Seaside tonight and if it's open expect some pictures!
ECZenith
Ohh man, I thought it had opened already, someone must be fibbing me. Please let us know if they got it going! I'm curious to know if this coaster has any dark ride "gags" inside the building.
coasterguy618
http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=6262072 SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) - July 13, 2008 -- A Bulgarian man who took a summer job on a New Jersey amusement pier was being kept alive Monday on life support after being accidentally struck by a roller coaster car while trying to retrieve a child's hat that fell from the ride. Stanislav Dragnev, 21, was one of two workers at the Star Jet roller coaster Sunday night on the Casino Pier. At about 6:50 p.m., he entered a restricted area of the roller coaster to try to fetch a child's hat while the roller coaster was still in motion. "He was trying to do something nice for a child," said Marilou Halvorsen, a spokeswoman for the Casino Pier, one of two amusement ride areas on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. Details of the accident remained sketchy, and police referred all inquiries to the Casino Pier spokeswoman. She said it appeared that Dragnev was walking underneath or alongside the roller coaster tracks when one of the cars struck him in the head, grievously injuring him. Well, wouldn't you think someone who works at the park knew better? People these days. EDIT : It was on the news this morning that the man died. My prayers go out to him and his family, but still, you should know better.
fergusonat
This is getting a wee bit ridiculous. I feel bad for these people, but at the same time, you gotta keep your priorities in check. Life > a hat

Carnage
Well, wouldn't you think someone who works at the park knew better? People these days. I think in most cases they just underestimate the clearance on these rides. If you work on a ride every day, you probably become desensitized to the noises of the ride. So walking close to the ride probably wouldn't phase him. Probably just went to get the hat, and got too close, not thinking about how far to the side of the track that the car might extend. HHN Dylan
I know its harsh, but I really don't even think people like this deserve life... Can you honestly be that stupid.

Still, most parks have procedures for when hats etc. fall off the rides. I'm a ride op at Seabreeze, and when we have a "rover" (hat falling off, etc.), we have to call for our manager to come and get it. Once they come to get the hat, we don't run the ride until they retrieve it.
Wes
I know its harsh, but I really don't even think people like this deserve life... Can you honestly be that stupid. Only if they are into P, M, or W. If you aren't into any of those, what a terrible accident. But PMW? Fuck him, he deserved to die.
