TPDave Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Friction is proportional to the gravitational pull, so friction would also be a sixth. Coasters would work on the moon but go slower, simple...
hyyyper Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 they would also accellerate and deccellerate much slower. If you built kingda ka on the moon, you would only need 1 sixth of the speed... yet if you build MF, you would need it to be 6 times higher to achieve the same velocity on the drop
Purplepills Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 You could also power coasters on the moon if you liked to behave exactly like ones on earth. But that kinda defeats the point of wondering what they would be like on the moon.
Reon Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 This thread needs to be resurrected every December, a true classic and not in a good way. Coasters...ON THE MOON!! The new Holiday tradition *sets 9 Christmas trees in a giant menorah.* Happy late Channukah to all my fellow Jews.
BeemerBoy Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 ^Here's to Christmas in July. In an effort to continue the brilliance of this thread, I now pose the next question. Which company will own the moon? Sorry all, with a stupid article like that, it's only natural that this thread should come to mind.

With a bit of creativity they could create a big Apple logo in the sky
WillMontu Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I spotted this at Great Adventure earlier this year. I was going to use it in a Photo TR, but I ended up not doing the TR and left it sitting on my hard drive. Of course, does it even matter as the world's going to end in 2012 anyway?
Moose Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Friction is proportional to the gravitational pull, so friction would also be a sixth. Coasters would work on the moon but go slower, simple... Thankyou thankyou thankyou. Of course, does it even matter as the world's going to end in 2012 anyway? ^The world may be ending, but the moon will live on. Long live coasters... on the moon.
HHN Dylan Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Hahaha yes, long live coasters on the moon. But honestly, I don't think it would work, just because of the gravity. Maybe a gyro drop would work or something... But it would be very complicated. If it comes down to it, I'm sure it could be done.
Louise Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Coasters on the moon may only be ridden by our draconic halves, which was possibly the only thread ever created that was stupider than this one. Some great discussion in here though, I'm completely amazing by you guys' scientific minds!
Homer Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Posting this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHpX5aa5Lz4

coasterdude5 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Rides on the moon? More like rides on the sound stage! The moon doesn't exist. It's just a bunch of PMW.
dammie16@vt.edu Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 You can have P & M on the moon but W wouldn't light due to lack of oxygen so that ends this thread coasters can't work w/o the PMW triangle.
HHN Dylan Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 ^I think if it came to actually making a coaster on the moon... They would find a way to distribute oxygen...
NASA Guy Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 What would coasters be like on the moon? Sweetness, pure sweetness. I've always dreamed of walking on the moon, and riding a coaster there is like the best of both worlds!
larrygator Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Sweetness, pure sweetness. Finally an expert chimes in. With that screen name, this guy must know his stuff!
caliraiden Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Ya cuz we all know NASA has never faked anything... what we really need is some type of proto type ride.. a spacey mountain thingy, where we could test these theories of Rides on the Moon.
