Danrarbc Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Holiday In The Park is the big new "attraction" for this season. So when you consider the addition of HITP, Fireball, New Revolution, plus all the other smaller upgrades the park has received this season including an entirely new underground power grid, this has been a pretty good season for this park. I couldn't agree more! 2016 is the best year the park has had in several seasons as far as new additions and attractions! I'm so so so looking forward to HITP!!!! I'm really glad HITP is happening as well. I always thought it stayed relatively warm enough through New Year's to make something like that happen here in StL. For real, was it Thanksgiving or Christmas last year that it was around 70 during the day? Regardless, I think it could be a real hit here. Haven't been to any of the other SF parks for their's, so what all does it entail? I'm guessing lots of lights, rides when the weather's cooperating... anything else? Also adds a couple of shows, extended use for the season pass, and my favorite: checking out the construction of new rides (If they start early) Does anyone else think that SF might add something on Colossus (Ferris wheel) like the Jack O Lantern during FF? I'd just like a modern lighting package for Colossus in general.
RollerManic Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I would rather see Screamin' Eagle's chaser lights return before ^^.
SixFlagsAstroworld Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 ^^^The lights on the Ferris wheel at Cedar Point is awesome. I don't see an excuse not to use that on Colossus
Danrarbc Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I would rather see Screamin' Eagle's chaser lights return before ^^. Why not both?
SixFlagsAstroworld Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I would rather see Screamin' Eagle's chaser lights return before ^^. Why not both?
RollerManic Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 ^Because the likelihood of either to me just seems low. Maybe if the idea was pitched to the Staff, but I can't imagine the park has considered this as the chaser light's on Eagle were removed and wouldn't have any ROI being constantly run. Colossus's lights wouldn't have much ROI either, but would sure attract attention from the Interstate. Both cost $$$ to install, run, and maintain. Sure both would make the park more charming and fresher. However, that's not enough considering that there are many things the park has yet to do to tidy up sections (which they have been). I would absolutely love to stand in the DC plaza, at the back of the park, or the front gate and watch a colorful wheel spin or see Eagle's lights heading off into the woods from a distance. Don't get me worng.
Danrarbc Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Sorry I just don't believe you have to let maintenance needs get in the way of nice little upgrades and new rides. Don't know what the numbers are on the light package in Cedar Point but they can't cost THAT much. The ride could use TLC anyway IMO and is actually celebrating 30 years this year. One company in particular has installed a lot of these systems. http://www.eworkspro.com
HWFan Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 ^Now that I've been working constantly in Alabama, I've been trying to lay low and just check this thread every once in a while. However, I wanted to address your point above. You're talking about millions of dollars for a light package like that. Plus, Colossus is even bigger than the one at Cedar Point. Dave Roemer was a fan of the chaser lights on Eagle. Anyway, Colossus has a great lighting package that can even be an animated jack-o-lantern or a giant clock! That lighting package was a good sized investment. It would be a waste to spend millions on an LED light package now. Maybe 5-10 years from now, sure. But there are better uses of that money right now.

That would be true for most parks, yet they have them. C'mon - putting Chaser Lights on the Eagle can't be that hard to do... Heck, give me the strands of lights ... I'll do it for free
Baelfael Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Heck, give me the strands of lights ... I'll do it for free I have this image of thousands of lights purchased from Walgreens on December 26th strung up onto the coaster with a giant orange extension cord running to a 120v outlet in the station. Please make this happen hwfan. We all know you are secretly in charge of Six Flags St. Louis. You cannot fool us any longer.
HARLEYGUYJB Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Some type of incident at involving Boomerang http://www.kmov.com/story/31910894/3-injured-when-six-flags-ride-stopped-mid-point ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Three people received medical attention for minor injuries after a ride at Six Flags St. Louis stopped mid-point Friday. According to officials, just before 11:30 a.m., ambulances were dispatched to the park after the Bommerang stopped at a mid-point location. After the ride stopped, guests were able to safely exit the ride and the park’s first aid staff responded to treat those injured. Six Flags released the following statement after the incident occurred: "Boomerang did not complete its normal ride cycle causing it to stop at a mid-point location where all guests safely exited the ride. Our First Aid staff responded immediately and three guests were transported to a local medical facility as a precautionary measure. The safety of our guests is our top priority and the ride will be closed for a thorough inspection before re-opening" According to authorities, officials from the Eureka Police Department, EMS and the fire department were called to the park.
SFOG1991 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 (edited) ^I'm going to guess it tripped a sensor or something, the brakes at the halfway point stopped the train hard, and a few people experienced minor whiplash. Then again, this is a boomerang... the minor injuries were probably suffered before the ride stopped while traversing the course as normal. Anyways, hopefully everyone is ok. Doesn't sound like anything that out of the ordinary. Edited May 6, 2016 by SFOG1991

That's what happens when you buy a 26 year old used vehicle.....stuff breaks.
HARLEYGUYJB Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I'm sure it was nothing major, but local media news stations will eat this up and make it sound like it was a horrible accident.
SixFlagsAstroworld Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 ^Just like when Galactia at Alton Towers shut down.
bachir Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 So I have to ask - Is it possible for a rollercoaster to stop while upside down?
coasterbill Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Yes. Exhibit A But in this case the ride probably stopped between the second spike and the loop. When a Boomerang does not properly engage the chain it has a set of brakes between the loop and second spike that activate so that the ride will stop there (the ride even has a catwalk... see). This prevents the train from possibly getting stuck in the cobra roll which has happened on multiple occasions and is the reason many of them now have catwalks there as well. The train does stop hard, but my guess is that the three guests that "were transported to a local medical facility" are trying to come up with a dumb lawsuit to file because it's America. They're fine.
SixFlagsAstroworld Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Now the news are claiming the ride jumped the tracks http://www.kmov.com/story/31910894/3-injured-when-six-flags-ride-stopped-mid-point
coasterbill Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Wow, upon further investigation it looks like it did. It stopped exactly where I assumed it did but you're right. This isn't normal.
SFOG1991 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Wow I stand corrected. I guess this isn't just a normal abrupt E stop between the loop and spike. Could the brake fin have impacted the brake system out of line? Like what happened on the halfpipe coaster at Elitch Gardens?
