Universal Orlando Resort (USF, IOA, Epic) Discussion Thread

P. 625: Harry Potter Ministry of Magic revealed!

Recommended Posts

Ya know, I'll be honest...I wasn't too excited about this area especially knowing it's going to be a little small and only include one new attraction but that video got me pretty excited to check it out! Mission accomplished Universal marketing team!

An example when HDR photo processing is taken just a bit too far. With proper lighting, this would've been a better shot ... still not a great promo shot considering all they could have done.

Is that actually HDR? It just looks like a typical picture from one of the really large sensor DSLRs. But then again I ain't no photo expert.

Not going to lie, at first I thought that the whole Harry Potter land was going to be kinda lame, but I'm stoked for it now. If I had the money I'd be going there this summer to check it out, it looks incredible! I'm really curious to see how the Forbidden Journey ride turns out because from the little I've seen/heard it sound pretty great. I wish I had more money....

And everybody, I mean everybody at my school thinks that it's a whole new theme park. I wonder if anybody will end up being disappointed when they go and find out it isn't?

^ If it really was just one ride then I think they would, but the area and detail is absolutely huge, incredible, unbelievable etc etc I don't see how anyone could be dissappointed, even if you are imagining a new park.

^ I think a lot of people will be disappointed in all honesty. Yes, it looks amazing but if you're expecting a whole new park and you only get a small land with some attractions you may have seen before, wouldn't you be disappointed?

It's like thinking your gonna have sex and you end up only getting a really good massage... Not the same.

What if that massage yield the same ending as sex would have? I think a lot of the people running to this are potter fans who have never been to ioa before and besides there isn't a standard size for a theme park. I look at this like a lot of parks that advertise a water park within a theme park. Some have only 3 slides and some have 20 slides but they both are considered a water park within a theme park.

Hey look at that, another big news publication touting the new land as an entire park.

LOL If you go to EW.com and read the comments, it's priceless.

EW Article

This is my favorite so far:

there is actually going to be a harry potter theme park in england and its set to open in 2012, i think. but what i want to know is why wasnt the british one built first? i mean it is based in england isnt it?

Because if you scheduled 1-2 days of a trip to see the new "Harry Potter park", without caring to go to any other UO attractions, you'll be disappointed. It's not about great theming, an amazing attraction; what they have there now is fantastic. It's about UO being sneaky with naming and advertising so people would set aside more time from Disney to go here. People are expecting more attractions, shows, shops, and experiences, and UO is the only one to blame for that.

They should have named it Hogsmeade Village, said it was in Islands of Adventure, and sell it as part of a package. But no, they had to give it a huge name, slap "World" onto it (sue guests in central florida for thinking large theme parks when "world" is added to something), and be sly with saying it's actually inside another theme park.

I am not going to chime in too much on this whole world vs land discussing but I think if vacationers do proper research they are clearly going to be able to access the information showing the map from USO and that this is a section of the park rather then a park itself. Yes, I do agree some press has been placing the wrong words in articals but the traveller and park guest has to be responsible enough to get all the information prior to booking.

Now, back to the new video that shows a little bit of the new ride, anyone else notice that there are no tracks? Could that perhaps have been a test seat prior to bording or do we think this will be a trackless style of system much like TOT?

oh and ftr, Universal's site refers to two parks: http://www.universalorlando.com/Tickets/1day_base_ticket_desc.aspx?ComponentId=13035&SourcePageId=7805#1 i.e. USF and IoA

there's a thing called "Journalistic Bullshit" and it comes when they can't be arsed to distinguish between 2 terms they barely care the difference between.

It could be! The higher end cameras basically do the same thing in camera. The second released photo is much better!

Hey, I know I don't post much but this is another topic I've been following closely.

I often go to universal just to see the progress, and they made quite a jump this last visit. It'd had been about a week since I visited, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the green tarp covering your journey to Dueling Dragons gone. It provided much clearer looks and views of the whole area. I also notice the banners where it used to say choose thy fate, are some pretty legit Fireball and horntail banners. I know they had some cheap looking ones a few weeks ago, but these were much nicer. Another great addition was the animation they now have projected on the top of the ceiling. As you wait to board the train you can hear and see the shadow of the giant dragon in the sky, added a nice feeling to the whole ride waiting area.

I can't wait to see this area when it is finally unveiled, and I'm very excited for the Forbidden journey. The only thing I'm worried about are crowds, I've kind of accepted I'll have to wait a long time, which I'm pretty used to.

I kind of can't wait until people go to Universal to go to the "Harry Potter Theme Park", get onto the people movers with the arrows pointing toward Islands of Adventure and Universal Orlando, getting confused, then getting pissed off, and then throwing an absolute fit.

I dont know if the GP are even smart enough to even think about the Harry Potter theme park thing thing. My friends all call DCA Disneyland, and even if we go to DCA they will say we went to Disneyland, just cause they are in ther same area. Also, I dont know if people, unless they are REALLY into this, are going to pay enough attention to the aspect that the area is advertised as a new park.
