Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (SFDK) Discussion Thread

Wow, I thought this was Maurer the whole time.

I thought the same thing.

This looks to be a really interesting ride.

Same thing. When I went on RCDB.com, it said Premier Rides was the manufacturer. I was actually ready to e-mail RCDB.com telling them they made a mistake.

I would imagine that since the ride run through the station several times during the circuit, there's no way that it'll have a transfer track station. Unless they find a way to do it safely, I'm thinking they'll have just one loading section and one train.

I may be totally wrong here, but wasn't Green Lantern: First Flight turned around in the concept video, with the lift facing batman? I could have sworn... Either way its just a concept rendering, nothing is set in stone so they could definitely have some kind of transfer or dual loading setup.

Totally stoked for a new coaster in Norcal. It's no giga or hyper, but it's fricken sweet!

Premier rips off Maurer Sohne yet again! They stole their trains, but did they really need to steal their style too?

Nevertheless, these trains worked very well on Skyrocket, so I can see this working just as well and smoothly on this. Even though the basic design of the trains is almost a complete ripoff, the restraints and seats are a lot more comfortable than Maurer seats, so that is really good, I guess.

I'm sick of all the super hero themed rides to be honest... And the ride looks cool but kinda sketchy too, like its straight from some cartoon.

Good, then it will be more funner!

Exactly!

Also since this is from Premier, and they completely ripped off Maurer Sohne, do you guys think they might file a lawsuit?

So Timberliners are a rip-off of Millennium Flyers beaus they two people per car w/ a different lap bar system? It's the same here. They have six person trains with lapbars.

The layout, while at first glance looks like Maurer, has a lot more differences. A Skyloop doesn't launch (there is one in an ad), the Maurer has a barrel-roll that starts upside-down and ends upside-down. This ride has the opposite. Just because Vekoma made a Cobra Roll doesn't mean B&M can't make one; Maurer was the first to do a non-inverting loop, but Premier was second.

Honestly, I think they looked at Maurer's layout and went: How can we improve this?

There all similarities, but not enough to say they completely ripped them off. I mean look at Golden Sun, if anything, Maurer would sue them first.

I don't think we will, Premier's new trains LOOK like the X-car's, but there are so many things that are different about the two, and I find it very easy to tell the difference between Premier trains and the MS X-Cars. So I think they are not rip offs. A rip off would be more like those random Chinese SLC's.

Premier created the new trains as well as a new track design for use on Sky Rocket and the Yamaha coaster, and no one seemed to notice.

The Skyloops have a vertical lift with an inverted crest followed by a 360-degree heart line roll. This doesn't even have a lift, it has a three-stage launch into a vertical twist.

By your logic, every single roller coaster designed to fit in a narrow, long space has to be a Maurer Skyloop because anything else will be a "ripoff".

There's a difference between "ripping off" and "competing". Also by your logic, every theme park fan site on the internet is a rip-off of Theme Park Adventure.

On one of my visits, THBS was my favorite coaster in the park. At times (when seated to ride backwards up the lift, I believe), I'd get a massive pop of airtime at the end of the ride. That said, it's not quite unique or thrilling enough for me to really miss it.

IIRC, the height restriction get smaller the closer you get to the lake. It could be that the only place they could place that ride is on the Zonga/Big Spin pad.

It'd be difficult to find a place for that particular coaster, yes, but just because the Zonga/THBS spot is now filled doesn't mean they don't have other areas they could build awesome coasters in the coming years.

I totally agree. I thought it was a fun ride and I was a little disappointed to hear that they're taking out such a new ride, but I won't miss it too much. It usually had really long slow-moving lines and it's not worth the wait. If it weren't for ERT with TPR, I probably wouldn't have ridden it as much as I have.

The wait time is probably going to be even worst on Superman, but if its worth the wait or not, where just going to have to wait until 2012 But I total agree, It was fun ride and its sad to see it go , but with a giant new launch coaster going in, then I think that makes up for it!

The wait might be worse for S:UF, but with Pandemonium, the ride ops took forever to load each individual spinning car. I noticed that they tried to completely fill up the cars and would stand there and ask if there were groups of 2 that could join another group of two. By the time a group of two would volunteer and then shuffle past everyone, the ops could have just sent the original 2 on their way and start to load another.

Hopefully, the ops will do better with a ride like this (They do fairly well with V2) and the wait won't be too bad after a while.
