Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (SFDK) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

When I went during Fright Fest, I found no major rides to be closed either. However, if you only want to ride the coasters, it is best to arrive at the park upon opening. The park will start out empty, but will slowly become more and more crowded as the day goes on. Also, SFDK's Fright Fest is pretty medocire anyway. The zombie aisles become so overcrowded, it is difficult to tell the difference between a "zombie" and someone else brushing your shoulder. This can also suck if you are irritated by loud, high-pitched noises, as the sounds of others screaming is absolutly defening. I was in there fore literally two minutes, and I had a headache the entire next day.

I am considering trying out Knott's Haunt this year, but I do have a one roadblock. Have any rides been closed for Haunt this year? My favorites are Xcelerator and Ghostrider, and I would rather not go if both of these are closed. For this event, I might consider purchasing earplugs. Yes, they look dorky, but I couldn't care less as they are worth not having a headache.

Really? I don't remember the scare zones being that crowded at all. Then again, I only remember one, which was in the front of the park, but it seem like there will be more of theme this year, which means even less crowds. And are you really complaining about screaming, at a HALLOWEEN EVENT? Getting scared is the whole point of these events, its part of the fun! I think this also goes with the whole "you don't know who's a zombie or not" thing too.

(Also, I would like to know tips on making Kong a better ride)

What they said, sit in the front, even if you have to let people ahead of you to wait for the next train. The last few times I've gone, they only let people line up in the rows one train at a time, and if you're the last person, then you're supposed to take whatever row hasn't been taken (which is often towards the back).

Also, I found a method that worked for me, but it's only been tested once by myself. During the entire ride (and especially the inversions that are the worst), I pressed my cheek against the side of the headrest and kept it firmly in place. That way, my head wasn't bashed back and forth like it usually is.

Also, this might be obvious, but don't ever raise your hands on Kong. If you firmly grip the handles and tense up your body, you won't whip around as much.

^I agree. I have yet to ride it in the back. I always wait for the front. It's much better...

Anyone have any idea when Pandamonium will cease operations? I figure it'll be announced on Facebook ahead of time, but still...

Supposedly October 30.

Thanks to all who responded on Kong, I will try to get the front and press my cheek against the restraint. I will avoid the back at all costs.

I'm going October 1 officially to SFDK, and I am not going to Fright Fest, but is there any problems with Sky Screamer or any other rides that I need to know about? (Also, I would like to know tips on making Kong a better ride)

I would recommend a call to the scrap yard for kong! For the other rides, I usually head to Sky screamer and then to Big spin first, the rest doesn't really matter what order you ride.

I can almost see them breaking ground for Ultimate Flight sometime during late November or early Decmber, as Pandamonium won't take very long to be dismanteled...the biggest demolition with be the station, which isn't too difficult.

I have a feeling track will arrive sometime in January or February, especially considering they don't have to dig any footers, as the concrete pad serves as a giant anchor (at least it looks that way from the animation).

Definitely going to be there opening day for this beast!

I might go, but last year, Sky Screamer first opened on a school day, so I had to come later in the day when the lines still pretty long, and considering that this ride looks like it can only hold 12 people at a time, I might just wait until the following weekend and be the first in line!

I'll be there opening day too. But with a Platium Qbot which will be soooo worth it. About Kong let me tell you once again. This year I had the most enjoyable ride on Kong I've ever had. Absolutely no head banging or ear bashing during the entire ride. I don't know if the row/train I was in made the difference-row 6/yellow train. Plus I had both hands holding the foam part above my shoulders. I love Kong now. But Roar DANG how did it get so frigen loud??? They need to make Roar a little quieter. It's much louder than the sound of the Grizzly's lift hill.

^I really doubt they'll have the Q-bot option for opening day, seeing as how massive the crowds will most likely be...

Did anyone go to any SF ride openings this year and confirm/deny this?

They normally have special events for a new ride opening, and they usually don't have q-bots for those. But Im not sure about normal opening day.

^I'm thinking more along the lines of what Green Lantern: First Flight does (since the capacity will likely be similar): Only available on Platinum, $15 per person per ride, no double rides. Personally, I'd rather it be a non-Flashpass ride, but I'm pretty sure that won't be the case. Judging from the POV animation, it looks like the ride will only be able to handle 300-400 people per hour, and that's with a reasonably good crew.

I seriously doubt that I'll make it to opening day, but I'll hit the park on some of the early and late season days that are less crowded, and, of course, there's always Bay Area Bash. I'm certain Six Flags will be eager to show off the park's newest attraction at the event.

I agree with you on the non-flash pass ride thing. If the ride can only hold 12 people, and a group of 12 people with q-bots come along, that's one cycle more you have to wait, the line would barely move if that's that case. But, considering this is a Six Flags park were talking about, it probably is going to be like Green lantern.

can't really say i'm sad to see "big spin" (pandemonium) go. the lines were always long and when I finally went on it at least one person was forced to stash their bags. Of course she complained about it which held up the line and stacked the 4-5 cars running the track. which they never really recovered from.

of course, with the new ride it's only going to be one train so at least stacking won't be a issue. Still though low capacity rides can be insane sometimes. But somehow V2 makes it work, but it always seems to have low, low lines.

I'm not sure a double station would be the greatest idea. The train will be traveling near its top speed as it launches through the station, then again as it returns. Would it be ok for a train to be traveling that fast on a transfer track? I don't think that it would be particularly dangerous, but it is something to consider.

When ever I go to CGA I wear my waste pack since I bring a sandwich for lunch. But of course by the time I eat my sandwich it's all squished but it saves me from buying that expensive food that's not good for you. Before getting on a coaster I slide my pack to the side of my waste & it's covered by my sweatshirt around my waste(my sweatshirt isn't big & bulky-lightweight) & no ride op has seen it. Smart way to do it. Or if I'm at Six Flags I wear my nylon shorts with 2 deep zipper pockets which is all I need to store my phone & money that way I'm not carrying around anything.
