coaster-crazy
"We love to show progress! This morning, the SkyScreamer base is starting to take shape - staging is taking place in the tram drop-off area while the foundation for the actual site is being prepared." Sir Clinksalot
Interesting post on the SFDK FB page this morning. I had no idea V2 was getting a new train, but I'm glad it is. New train for Kong ... meh. Not going to help. Lots of activity today as the new V2 train and a new Kong train are installed; and of course, SkyScreamer construction activity - all this before a forecasted storm comes in later today! chickenbowl
But what if the new Kong trains have restraints like Greater Nor' Easter or whatever in New Jersey? That could be an improvement.

If they have the new restraints, it will basically fix the ride. The only issue with this ride was smashing your head against the restraint. Andrewoplis
I was at the park the other day and saw the main swing there, ready to be placed on the tower! I rode V2 and the new trains are the EXACT same as the old ones! They have some updates on there facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/discoverykingdom#!/photo.php?fbid=10150215709052743&set=a.67563722742.94642.59636827742&type=1&theater ADMIN EDIT: I went ahead and attached the photo so people didn't have to jump to see it. skaunit
Well I searched back at least a year and unless there is a REALLY old thread, I could not find another SFDK discussion thread?? So, I was hoping this could be the beginning of one... Has anyone noticed this "Coasters After Dark" event happening on Friday, May 27, 2011? It makes me laugh because it lists the time as 6-8pm, which on may 27th is certainly not "after dark"... maybe as the sun goes down, but it won't really be dark till 8:30 that day most likely. But one thing that's cool is that they say it will be the opening of the sky screamer: "Coasters After Dark is the exclusive Season Pass holder evening event in celebration of the opening of the new SkyScreamer! Season Pass holders with a valid 2011 Season Pass are eligible for this after hours special event. Coasters After Dark will take place on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Oasis Plaza area of the park. Enjoy SkyScreamer - the newest tower thrill sensation - along with your favorite thrill coasters - Medusa, Kong and Cobra - for an evening you'll want to remember! " -from the discover kingdom website. Does this mean that will be the day the ride opens? Or will it be officially open on Saturday and pass-holders get an exclusive first ride? That would be awesome, but unlikely.... anyway, mods if there is already an "official" SFDK thread, feel free to move this, but I could not find one... jedimaster1227
Some fun perspective of SkyScreamer and a palm tree ... notice the globe at the top is only half a world away ... Sitting on these at 150' in the air ... well, what is the ONE WORD you would use to describe it? We're getting close to finishing off the topper - scene from this morning as workers work every day to get SkyScreamer opened by Memorial Day weekend! Oh, and did we tell you that the work going on is pretty HIGH?
SoCalCoasters
Awww, be nice to the mini Star Flyer Anyway, this is actually looking pretty good! I can't wait to ride it during Bay Area Bash this year!
mattnz
The simple seats, those little chains, the minimal restraints...at that height?! I am still scared to death of these things! Good investment by Six Flags though - I think they'll go down well with the general public.
Ace Of Spades
I swear man, this ride's color scheme is more all over the place than a Roland Emmerich plotline! Seriously though, does look really cool, nice to see a tower ride of any sort at SFDK.
skaunit
thanks for consolidating and creating this thread rob... it's funny how I had impeccable timing for my post... so anyone planning on going to this event on may 27th?
ABW
I hope to be going since I am a season pass holder. I'm bummed that Roar and V2 won't be open though. Edited May 14, 2011 by ABW
PAL
I was there last weekend. The ride's in a great place overlooking the park entrance. It also interacts with Medussa. It'll be very exciting to soar over the coaster while swinging at 150 ft. Oh yeah, it's nice to see this solid park get its own thread.
RollerCoasterSmi
I really want to go on one of these things... There isn't one in UK.
Fire2box
Finally SFDK get it's over well deserve topic/thread. Anyays being scared of highs i hope I got the courage to ride this. I'm sure I will once that day comes but still. 130-145 feet up (whatever it is) is HIGH. I know I've rode tatsu twice, X2 once, superman the escape once and riddlers revenge once. But all of those have pretty good secure systems rather then simple chains.
Andrewoplis
Wow, I didn't know that this park even had a discussion thread until now! Sky Screamer is looking great! I drove by the park yesterday and it looked completed, and it looks like they are testing it to according to there facebook page. I took a couple pictures of the rides tower on the way: Under Medusa's first drop I can't wait until opening day!
CharlieT.
Hey everyone! I went to the park yesterday, May 14th, with some friends. It was a great day, and the park was quite busy. Despite the crowds, operations were spectacular and made the lines move much faster then I have ever seen. Roar is now back to a two-train operation and Medusa was running two and then even added another one, which we got to see them add on. The longest wait for the day was probably for Medusa when it was running two trains, which was about one hour, but shortened once a third train was added. We were able to get on everything multiple times. Sky Screamer looks fantastic and really adds to the parks skyline. I cant wait for the parks "Coasters After Dark" event for season pass holders on the opening day! Okay, enough talk, lets get to the pictures. Update one: The morning was quite cloudy. But it cleared up fast! Look at SkyScreamer! My favorite ride at the park. The three best coasters in the Bay Area. In line for Roar! See my next post for update two. Happy riders:)

skaunit
Hey, it looks like I may end up going to the "coasters after dark" day by myself, my other friend who bought a season pass will likely have to work... if so, who on here wants to meet up to ride together? I don't really like going by myself, but if some TPR folks want to have a "meet" and hang out and ride stuff together that would be pretty cool. I was recently going through their ride list and realized that I don't have the credit for boomerang, cobra, or even tony hawk i mean pandemonium, as well as most of the flat rides like hammerhead, voodoo, and taz... I have only been there like 4 or so times in the last 10 years... but I hope to make a few trips up this season with my six flags season pass... so, whos down for an un-official TPR meet for the event?
