ginzo Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I know I'm quite alone in saying this, but Indiana Beach was the park that let me down the most. This past year, I took a few days and hit up some parks in the OH/IN/KY area. The first night, King's Island, was great... well, at least as good as it can be the day Son of Beast broke. Day two, at Beech Bend, I absolutely loved. Day three, even, at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, was a great visit, contrary to most other people's opinions of it. Day four, Holiday World... well, it's an amazing place. But on Day Five, the day to visit Indiana Beach, something just wasn't right. Whether it was the constant heat we had this summer, or just downright sheer dumb luck, I found the place to be amazing, but the staff ruined it with poor attitudes and overall unfriendliness. It was almost as though they didn't want you there, they just wanted to be out of work for the day. So, while the rides and atmosphere of Indiana Beach are amazing, I have to say, overall the park was a complete let-down, and I'm hesitant on ever giving it another shot. IB ride ops are pretty atrocious. But, they have great grilled cheese sandwiches there. What else do you want from a park?
The Angry Darren Mullins Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Holiday World-I was bored to tears within 15 minutes. I first went in October of 2000. Other than the two coasters, there wasn't much to this park. The flat ride collection could use some beefing up. The park is rather small. My dad was with me and wasn't impressed with the place and said the park shouldn't charge anymore than $15.00 for admission. He prefers smaller traditional parks, HW didn't do anything for him. Earlier that year, my dad and I made the trip to Idlewild and were very impressed by that place. I will also add that Indiana Beach is heaven. They have so many rides compared to the amount of land they have. Tokyo Disneyland was another letdown for me. I loved DisneySea, but for whatever reason, Tokyo Disneyland was boring. TDL was my first Disney park. In contrast, I adore Harmonyland.

They have so many rides compared to the amount of land they have. IB has HW beat for flat rides. But, HW has IB whipped in coasters. The only spectacular coaster there is Cornball. Tig'rr is decent, but the other three are pretty meh. HW's water park also completely destroys that nasty IB one. I wouldn't think of going into that filthy-looking water. I still really like both parks. Also, I'm not quite sure why "good use of space" is even a concern. Shouldn't the consideration be how good the rides are? I mean it's neat how IB has shoehorned all those rides into a tiny amount of space, but it's not exactly a selling point for the park as a whole. Have you ever told your friends, "Hey, I know of this great amusement park in Indiana. They really use space well."
apollo210 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 SFNE: It was very dirty, crowded, overhyped, and the staff was very mean. In order to survive, I had to go to the water park!THe only non water ride I rode was the Thunderbolt, and I waited 1:30 for the ride! -Stephen "Six FLags New England Sucks"
Calaway Park Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Calaway Park. I was dissapointed by the first true coaster I'd ever ridden... They have Chaos and a good log flume though.
cfc Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Hmm--I guess I'd have to say Drayton Manor. I was rather looking forward to the place during the UK Tour, but the park was rundown and pretty shabby. G-Force was a new experience in coaster discomfort, and Shockwave just plain sucked. That being said, there were some bright spots. Apcoalypse's stand-up/leaning-over side was a rush (best drop tower I've ever been on), and The Haunting was fun (despite its cheesy ending). Even the Pirate Adventure, as beat up as it was, has the potential to be great with just a little TLC (I ended up enjoying it).
MummyAW Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I really hope that you mean theme AND water parks, because the only letdown park for me is Surfside, here in Alabama. All it has is a kid;'s play area with a tiny little slide, a wave pool, a lazy river, and a series of body slides.
Calaway Park Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 PCW... Crappy coasters and the ONE ride I really wanted to go on was closed... Sledgehammer. Flat rides were great though, just expected more in the coaster department, all clones... ::yawn:: What about Vortex though? [Arrow Suspended]
RNRC Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Alton Towers. Great rides, but they all kept breking down. In eight hours, I amnaged to get on four rides and the ques wern't even that bad.
Scaparri Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I made my inaugural visit to Carowinds in April and was extremely let down. The park just wasn't anything special. It felt too open, if that makes any sense. And the ride collection was decent, but they didn't have anything that really wowed me. Top Gun was good, but nothing stellar.
307 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Lake Compounce. La Ronde. Those may be the only two parks we've been to that have "let us down".
viking86 Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Mirabilandia. Katun is really good and so is the stunt show. I also liked the rapids which makes you soaked, but apart from that I found very few interesting things to do in the park. The woodie sucks, the S&S towers are the weakest towers ever,..... I was just expecting more from a park of this size....
coaster1 Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 SDC last trip I made, they've become worse than the CP and SW Texas nazis .. it was downright sad .. spent all of 1 1/2hrs in the park .. did get a refund and apology from the Herschend's however. Other Letdowns: SFMW SFMM (Always, not sure why I return) CP (Personal beef) Carowinds
niiicolaaah Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Pleasureland Southport - the flyers were gone, the Helter Skelter was gone (I know it was SBNO for a few years, but the historical marker said it would stay!), two of the coasters were closed. That's the only park I've ever been disappointed by. I've been to plenty of crappy parks but the rest of them I wasn't expecting much from, so I wasn't disappointed (Drayton Manor comes to mind!).
shesaidboom Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Lake Compounce - It never opened! It was apparently closed due to the rain, but it didn't rain so I don't know what that was all about. We also had to wait until the weekend for it to open, but were done with SFNE by Thursday. Way to waste three days of my life for NOTHING Lake Compounce! La Ronde - Crappy rides, poor operations, dirty, rude people, too many bees, no love for Nunavut. It was probably the worst day I've ever had at a park. I had low expectations to begin with, but it was still worse than I had expected. Holiday World - sucked for the first half of the day. All of the coasters were closed and there were one train operations when the park was insanely packed. It did redeem itself after the first four hours we spent there though, and the staff were awesome, so it probably shouldn't really be on this list.

We also had to wait until the weekend for it to open, but were done with SFNE by Thursday. Way to waste three days of my life for NOTHING Lake Compounce! Sounds like my experience with Martins Fantasy Island. First time I went this year it was closed due to weather conditions. (weather being like 70 and sunny). Though we did end up picking up the credits at Seabreeze so the trip wasn't a total failure. Finally got my MFI credits labour day after waiting 2.5 hours to cross the border. I think MFI is my cursed park.
larrygator Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 disappoint: 1. to fail to fulfill the expectations or wishes of 2. to defeat the fulfillment of (hopes, plans, etc. Therefore, If I don't expect much from a park I'm not disappointed For me it was been: Canobie Lake - built up by locals to be the greatest little park, but far from it Lake Compunce - similar to Canobie Beech Bend - built up by TPR to be more better than I experienced Holiday World (on my first visit pre-Voyage/Gobbler Getaway) - Had heard for years that this was the best of the independent parks. However, as others have said, besides the coasters there aren't many flats to enjoy.
Carnage Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Holiday World (on my first visit pre-Voyage/Gobbler Getaway) - Had heard for years that this was the best of the independent parks. However, as others have said, besides the coasters there aren't many flats to enjoy. I felt the same way towards Holiday World. Pre-voyage I left fairly kind of "meh" about the park. I had a good time, but wasn't really blown away.

For me Holiday World was the worst because it had been built up so much and all I heard were amazing things about the place. I also had really high expectations for Legend, since everyone kept saying it was so great, but I thought it was pretty bad. Since that visit, I try to have low expectations of parks even if they've been built up a lot so that instead of being disappointed, I'm pleasantly surprised
RNRC Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Chessington did once. There was a diversion so it took me over three hours to get there. I get there to discover all three of the rollercoasters closed. So basically, I went in to ride Rameses Revenge, The Log Flume and a couple of tamer rides.
hectordelbano Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Disneyland California Adventure: There's like one or two rides that are actually exciting, and it takes like an hour just to get to the park what with the parking, the trams, the odd mall-like entrance to the two parks, and of course, the ridiculous cost of entry and concessions. Stick with the original.
drewelap Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I would have to say six flags america. Its like the old and originl section of the park is fine...but then the new section (Gotham City) is just a field with rides scattered in. Everything was so gross there. Another was this time i went to paramount kings dominion...now i love pkd...but i went in the summer and it was sooooo crowded. In the first 6 hrs i went on 4 rides. Volcano's line went all the way out to the volcano sign at the begining of the volcano/tomb raider/ avalance area! (tomb raider is beside it now)..it was like a 5 hour wait!!!!It let me down big time.
