TPR's 2013 Japan Trip - Mini Updates!

Recommended Posts

Sorry that I haven't posted much in the last few days. It's been a whirlwind of crazy for us! Please check our Facebook and Twitter for live updates!

The Aquatopia thing you keep referencing is really intriguing me. Just what in the hell is their purpose. Is it a ride that follows a track and if so what all do you actually see/experience while on it? I am thinking of the boats in the little lagoon at Dutch Wonderland.....Dragon's Lair.

Here's the TPR video of Aquatopia. It's a trackless ride I think, like Pooh's Hunny Hunt, just as a water ride.

Well now, that was just.....Weird?

yeah.. I don't quite understand the point of this?

does it look very different at night or something?

EDIT: ok, I found the night-time version Robb posted:

um. . yeah. .not a whole lot better. . LOL

and Robb actually introduces it as a "pointless" ride, so ok, I guess I get it. . LOL

It really is a pointless, but fun ride! At first I didn't understand there was a wet and dry version and I took the wet version. It was a little cold outside and I was wondering why the line was so short!

Wow really? I never saw that when I went but I went in a cold february but i'd have been tempted to do it, the lines were all huge the day I visited, do they only run it during the summer? Do they lower the water levels during the winter for wet rides because both jurassic park at USJ and splash mountain I came off bone-dry (although I got my pants soaked on Jaws in the boat shed sitting in the back right)

When do they run a wet version? We've never seen it.

It's been a few years since I was last there, so maybe they got rid of it. If I remember correctly, as you entered the line, the right side (facing the sea wall side) was the wet side, and the left side was the dry side. I understood that they ran/run it during the summer months.

^^^ Absolutely love it, it's one of the most insane rides out there. It's really crazy that 3 of the most insane rides that I have ridden yet are made by S&S (Dodonpa, Eejanaika and Tranan), and there isn't that many other rides on that list either.

I'm not able to tell how powerful that launch is, since it have managed to break our accelerometer on both occasions we have been there, 2 of the earlier versions, the one we use now is a lot less complicated so third times lucky? Must get back there at some point to test it out.

Again, thanks for the awesome POV, it's really something that they even agreed to it.

I thought I was prepared for this ride after I rode TTD but boy was I wrong, TTD feels gradual compared to Dodonpa, It felt like I was being shot out of a cannon!

Yea, this video really makes me miss Hypersonic XLC's launch and top hat. The rest of the ride not so much.

After all these years, Hypersonic still has/had the best launch here in the states. ...And it's not even close to the acceleration of Dodonpa.

Thanks for the awesome POV, Robb.

Awesome Dodonpa POV. Do you still get that crazy airtime at the top of the hill? That is the one thing I remember most from my one ride on Hypersonic (well that and the insane launch from basically the base of the hill).

I highly agree. Despite the not so impressive size of the ride compared to Dragster no other ride has as strong a launch as Hypersonic.

^Yes. The ride tries to violently eject you on the hill!

This is the most extreme roller coaster on the planet. It still scares me every time I ride it. The launch feels like getting hit by a truck and I don't understand how people don't fly out on the hill on a daily basis!

Aquatopia is much more fun after dark.

The launch makes my eyes water so bad I can't see anything for the first half of the ride. Then you go over the top hat and feel like you are going to be thrown from the train. Not one of my favorite rides there.

I wonder how far a person would be thrown going over the top hat if there was no lap bar?

Woo hoo! Just got back from Tokyo, and am now reliving four hours

that we got back on the plane ride home LOL! I do love Time Travelling

from Japan, hee hee. (We left at 4 pm this coming afternoon, and arrived

8 hours earlier the same day, today. I love it.)

Thanks for a great tour, Robb and Elissa, and I look forward to 'catching up'

with what you have posted on the thread, so far.

Oh... and Tokyo Disney Sea Still RAWKS!

Back on here...

I am calling that coaster at the resort, Twister DIVE Coaster!

It was amazing with the hang time involved. And (I think)

that's 5 twister ultra coasters I've done around the world, woo hoo!

Cosmoworld amazes me every time, just from their

entrance greeting sign, and the ERT etc. They really

REALLY love TPR! And of course, MEAT COW capsule machine!

And locking us in the Ice House was a real treat, ha ha...

That ride made some creepy sounds before it launched that would put me on edge pretty quickly. I did like the smile sign just after the launch, I can't really imagine being able to smile on that without having my lips ripped from my face. After seeing this though it does make me think lowering the speed of Ring Racer was a good idea regardless of the incident that happened.

And for the Tokyo Disney fanbois...

Aquatopia was The First Trackless Disney Attraction to be

designed and built - so of course, they couldn't put tooooo much into it,

before figuring out it could be done more complex a la Pooh.

(And at night, the lighting is still really great and cool to see._

Of course, after Pooh's Hunny Hunt came "Mystic Manor" in

Hong Kong Disneyland, and now coming up is "Ratatouille" in

Paris' Disney Studios in 2014....

And for Shanghai Disneyland, who knows what elaborate awesome

trackless attraction(s) they'll (hopefully) design and build? ....drool.

I mean, it's really gone from silly and fun - to awesome and amazing and fun!

Elissa,

What is KT's coaster count for this and the Taiwan trips? It seems like she was on a lot more now that's she's taller. Were there any rides she just really enjoyed being able to ride now? (Like I saw she enjoyed that shuttle loop coaster.)
