The *snap* at the top of B&M flat spins (corkscrews - why do they call them "flat spins"??).

I think this is the difference:

Flat Spin = Entered with no banking

Corkscrew = Entered with banking

^I read in an interview with B&M somewhere that the flat spin is more like a banked turn that switches to a banked turn in the opposite direction. I'd assume a traditional corkscrew is very symmetrical and geometric, rolling at a constant degree the entire way, considering how Arrow's early designs were hand drafted, but that's just an inference.

Looking at this picture, I can kind of see it, but there is also the chance it was just a "lost in translation" moment with B&M, that happens sometimes as well.

For inversion elements, any multiplied element (double corkscrew, double in-line twist, etc) and sidewinders (including any element that incorporates a sidewinder). I've found that the multiplied elements tend to be the only ones that make me dizzy (although the effect is short lasting and usually goes away once the ride ends), and sidewinders tend to produce the most headbanging due to the abrupt transition from a loop to a corkscrew. For non-inversion elements, my least favorite is a helix because I find them boring and slightly dizzying as well.

I hate Arrow/Vekoma breakruns due to how suddenly and painfully they stop. You sit through a painful ride of head banging before getting whiplash when it comes to a stop. Not fun.

I'm also not a fan of most helices, with the exception of Nemesis' helix after the corkscrew - pure awesomeness

A lot of people are saying the cobra rolls are the worst, and I agree with them when it comes to boomerangs, but I have had some good experiences with a cobra roll; the Hulk's was fine, it had smooth continuous rolling unlike the jerking of a cobra roll on a Vekoma boomerang.

I've never been a huge fan of vertical loops. On some coasters they can be really forceful and intense, on some they can be quite "floaty" and have some nice hang time, but more often then not they feel like a whole lot of nothing stuck somewhere in the middle of those two sensations.

Arrow cobra rolls? As in plural? I thought that Drachen Fire was the only Arrow coaster with a cobra roll.

The Butterfly element on Gouderix. Horrible element that causes a ton of headbanging. It doesn't even look natural. It literally looks like the inversion was designed with a coat hanger.

Also surprised to see just how unpopular Cobra Rolls are. They're not my favorite element, but I never had any problems with them, so it was intersting to see just how many people chose Cobra Rolls as their least favorite element.

Horrible HORRIBLE element on a horrible ride.

I agree. I was in Florida last week and went on four roller coasters with Cobra Rolls (Hulk, Dragon Challange, Kraken, and Kumba), didn't have a problem with any of them. Alpengeist's is probably the one that I find the most uncomfortable, but even then it's still not that bad.

Trims, MCBR, well, basically, all the types of brakes that aren't the final brake run and that kill the pacing of a ride.

I'm a bit surprised why so many people chose cobra rolls as their least favorite element as I've never had any kind of problem with them. What I wouldn't be surprised would be the snap on B&M inverted corkscrews but, actually, I do find them quite fun and intense.

The Sidewinder found on any Vekoma SLC. Along with Vekoma's cobra rolls (ie. Boomerang). However, I've had no problem with B&M cobra rolls thus far, I quite enjoy them.

I rethought my old post on here.

I don't know why nobody has said this so far, but I just remembered how terrible lift hills are when they go right into the station. Most notably is Ninja at SFMM. It's a great ride, but the lift hill at the end totally breaks the pacing. If the station was at the bottom of the hill and not the top, I think that ride would be on my Top 10.

Also, I don't know what rides have terrible enough cobra rolls to make lots of you say that was your least favorite, but all 5 cobra rolls I've ridden (Raptor, Dueling Dragons Ice, Silver Bullet, Scream!, and Incredible Hulk) were probably the highlight of each ride.

Corkscrews... Unless on a B&M invert where they are actually my favorite element (but those would be flat-spins anyway). If profiled correctly, they could be great. But they have to have a zero-g-roll type heartlining in them, much like Maverick's horseshoe roll.

But traditional corkscrews are just never exciting.

I am also surprised at how many people say cobra roll, when for me they are one of the most fun elements on some rides.

I do not however like the end of Raptor, coming around the final turn into the station and you get that final jerk for some nice head banging action.

For me the most awful element is the butterfly loop. Particularly the butterfly loop in Ninja at SFOG can be very painful. More than any other element, the butterfly loop seems to cause the most pain/headbanging in my experience. Perhaps it would be more bearable on a B&M or a much newer ride, but on a a 20 year-old Vekoma like Ninja its just not pleasant.

^ I know just what you're talking about. When I see a POV or something like that, I always anticipate a snap going into the final break run or coming out of a mid course break run.

Posted

^ There may be some confusion here. I guess you mean "batwing element", right? There are only two coasters in the world that feature butterflies and they're both Vekomas (ninja and goudurix). I believe those elements are quite likely to be confused.

He's talking about the mess of track after Anaconda's mid-course brake run, which is informally classified as a "butterfly". A similar element is present on the Space World Titan.
