Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

P. 512: Holiday World acquires Santa's Cottages resort

Recommended Posts

They've spent the last few years concentrating mostly on the new holiday section. So what is missing from the Thanksgiving area of the park? - a new show recreating the "66 Days At Sea" aboard the Mayflower. The new show will contain a catchy main song, but most of the tunes for the show will be familiar to almost everyone in the audience a la "Moulin Rouge." The first day's post is a clue to the first song - the kids on the Mayflower open the show with "It's a Hardtack Life For Us", reminiscent of the openings of both "Annie" and "Oliver", with the urchins complaining about life aboard the ship.

The preliminary name for both the show and the new theater is "66 Days At Sea: A Plymouth Rock Opera."

Noticed this on the recent trip report posted yesterday. I figured this question would be best answered here. Is The Voyage going to be running two six car PTC's or two seven car PTC's this season? I noticed in the TR that there appeared to be two six car trains running for ERT last Thursday. Not that it makes any difference to me, I'm just curious.

^ Early in the season, we use 6-car trains - as they're easier on the track. As capacity needs dictate, we add the seventh car to each train.

I didn't know that one. Thanks Paula!

I'm putting my 2 Cents in and going with a Aqua Trax for 2015. They kept the Station and Splash Pool from Giraffica. The Coaster could fly through the Woods next to Voyage and then Splash Down in Giraffica's Pool. Just my Thought.............

If I can bet anything, I'd guess an Expedition GeForce clone with a Splashdown. Maybe a little taller so it can be 200ft? I woke up this morning and that was the first thing I though of.

It's sort of disappointing that the Thanksgiving section is really the only area where a new coaster could fit. A B&M Flyer or Invert would be a great fit for an eagle themed coaster in the Fourth of July section of the park .

I like the idea of using a splashdown, but that doesn't make any sense to me using PP's splashdown area. The track for PP is probably going into the concrete and no telling what else is sticking out of it. In order to make the splash down work, they're basically going to have to bust up the one they have and re-pour a new one to fit roller coaster track. I think it would be better served if they found a company that would be willing to retrofit their design of a shoot the chutes to fit what HW already has there. Based on the land they're clearing and what we assume is still the line between Splashin' Safari and Holiday World. This coaster (if it's a coaster) is either going to have to feature several launches or be pretty dang tall.

I don't think this new attraction will be themed to a sailing ship. If that was the case, why would they have JUST added a new attraction called "MayFlower"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't any other ships related to the Pilgrim's voyage.

While I think water based is still possible, I'm hesitant to jump on that bandwagon because the park has stated that they'll be moving focus back to the ride side of things.

Maybe the 66 days at sea is significant of the fact that this is coming from a European manufacturer. If this races or duels with the Voyage, maybe they stick with that name only add: Reborn or II to the name.

^ Stole this from this HoliBlog: http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2014/04/17/wisdom-sir-isaac/

In researching the story of the Mayflower, we learned that there was originally a second ship filled with Pilgrims. It was called the Speedwell. In 1620, the two ships set sail for the New World but they were forced to turn back not once, but twice. It seems Speedwell was simply not up to the voyage that was to come.

Can't imagine they would name the ride Speedwell. Doesn't sound very marketable to me.

I don't think this has anything to do with the new ride. They talked about turning back twice. I think that's a reference to Pilgrims Plunge the renaming it Giraffica.

By the way the Speedwell story is kind of interesting.

True, but stuff could be moved around a bit to give each holiday more space/walking area. Never know what they're up to! Who'da thought they would build at 6,400' long coaster with 24 hills and 7 underground tunnels (and keep most of the trees wink wink).

A B&M Flyer or Invert would be a great fit for an eagle themed coaster in the Fourth of July section of the park .

I'm gonna start a "no B&M for Holiday World" petition. We have enough of those at the corporate parks. (Plus, they would never do it with a 54" height requirement, so I guess I won't start a petition )

In theory, couldn't PP's splashdown be turned into a Mack SplashBattle? It could be easily accessible from Splashin' Safari, and then the station could be used for a Mack coaster. If they have such a great pool built already, then it seems like adding a splash battle wouldn't be too expensive. While not the same ride, I was talking to the SFSTL Park President about the new ride, and the cost of building the "pool" to hold the water and the pumps/filtration system is a monumental part of the cost to build the new Tsunami Soaker (Twist and Splash).

Two great Mack rides. One child friendly, one thrill seeker friendly.

By the way, has anyone thought of a Premier launched coaster back in the woods there?
