Thanks for all the advice! I was just at KD a few years back, so the only credit I am looking for is i305.

After checking the weather, it looks like I'll be hitting KD on Wed:

Partly Cloudy

93°

66°

Scattered thunderstorms on Thurs, so I'll just hang at BGW for Thurs and Fri.

Ciao!

I hadn't really been taken in by all the I305 hoopla until I saw the shot below. I mean Jesus H. Christ! Look at that drop! And though it's technically not, I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't agree that it goes straight down! KD has a winner for sure!

Looking at the overview shots of this coaster- Am I the only one who thinks it looks like it was taken from an RCT Park. You know, you build a huge lift hill and then drop and then realize you don't own the land directly in front so you curve it...

It looks almost unfinished...one drop and then...looks neat though.

That cakes looks very chocolaty!!

I305 may appear in the Guinness World Records 2011 Edition!

Maybe one day I'll ride it! I'm dying to visit another country, particularly the UK for the 2012 Olympics!

What record does it break?

Yea, I feel like even at 6 feet shorter of a drop than SD200, a 2010 intamin at 85 degrees and a 20 mph lift just may be traveling faster than a 2000 (manufacturing precision must have improved somewhat) morgan at ~60 degrees and a chain lift, but that is just my uneducated guess.

There have been a million different reports of how fast I305 has ever been clocked during testing, too.

Edit: Steel Dragon cost 50 million?! What the what? That must be the largest roller coaster investment in history.

^The $50 million price tag was due to a couple factors. One, it's the longest coaster on the planet, so more track=more money. Also, they had to earthquake-proof the entire structure which meant basically using double the amount of steel in the supports, obviously also jacking the price WAY up.

Edit: I also believe that Expedition Everest was the single largest investment for a roller coaster at $100M.

Just for curiosity's sake, I'd love to get a radar gun to each of the giga-coasters on Earth and clock them to see just how fast they really go, that way we can settle this debate once and for all.

Does anyone remember the arguments back in 2000 and 2001 that on really warm/humid days, when everything was just right, Millennium Force would top 100 mph? Those were hilarious.

That includes the extensive theming too. I'm sure that mountain, the trains and the other theming was the main part of the cost.

^^It would be interesting to see a breakdown of EE project costs. I wonder if the ride system wasn't really that expensive compared to what they spent on theming and "research".

Posted

Just look at 13. That cost 22 mil, and most of that went to the themeing and the vertical drop, meaning EE probably wouldn't cost all that much without its themeing. Different manufacturers, but they are similar rides.

I think you guys may enjoy this video, it's more a long the lines of a documentary and features many interviews with the people behind I305.

KD and CF definitely did an awesome job with this ride. It should be interesting to see what else they come up with in the next few years in there other parks. Does any one think SF may try to build some thing to compete with this ride? The last few years CF has really been taking an edge in US for thrill rides. I know SF want's to take the family friendly approach, but there going to eventually need to add some new big rides if they want to stay competitive.

^^ Great video..thanks for sharing!! It just makes me more anxious for our trip there in June!! With the addition of I305 K.D. sure has a nice coaster collection going on. I can remember the last time I was there Anaconda was still under construction. They just had Rebel Yell, Scooby, Shockwave and Grizzly. I can remember hitting this park like 26 times one season.I used to be able to navigate this park backwards with my eyes closed. 20 years of change, I will be lost!! LOL

Wow..just wow. Chuck, I have to be honest; after watching the POV, I think this is one coaster I may have to forgo, esp. if Robb has "grayed out" [i believe that was what he said when I saw it on YouTube]. I mean, you all have ridden Togo and Senyo machines before. LOL I would probably need a Valium just to get near it.

Thanks for a great TR !

If this were the only thing released from media day, I would still be driving up in June. It makes me laugh when I look at it.

I think I am getting my very own Intamin soon.
