Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

But if she were to get hurt or was killed on the ride her family would be screaming "Why didnt someone stop her from riding? Even THE MANUFACTURER SAID DISABLED PEOPLE LIKE HER SHOULDN'T RIDE! OH GOOD LORD BABY JESUS END THE MADNESS! MAKE RIDES ILLEGAL! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!"

Luckily, she was just embarresed instead of put in danger. Alot of these news stories come up, but its not like Six Flags keeps these policies a secret. I absolutely commend the park on keeping the woman's safety ahead in priorities than ensuring she buys a season pass, or sonething.

^Understood, but sounds to me like Six Flags is at fault here.....

I will say though, It's good SF covered their a$$ by breaking down the term "Fully functioning arm" as an arm with 1 functioning finger is also considered "functioning."

An employee said she wasn't able to ride, but went to guest services and they said she was allowed, but she chose at that point not to, and is now filing it to court. She is the one who is taking it too far, when the issue was already solved. She just needs "justice."

I feel bad for the operator. Was it their job to know the rules? Yes. But this issue probably never comes up and I'm sure they were just trying to be overly cautious which make sense given past incidents involving disabled people being injured or killed on coasters.

Get a supervisor involved. Period. As a lead I always expect my operators to get me involved in any "questionable scenarios." She never should have been denied to begin with but I DO understand the operator being gun shy. I get that, but at that point a lead and/or supervisor should have been called over to thwart this whole scenario.

I can see that technically SFGAdv is at fault in this case, but I think any reasonable person would see that the park made a reasonable attempt to remedy the situation by apologizing and offering to let her ride and that this lawsuit is pretty frivolous.

Exactly. To me it seems like the Op either didn't know or misunderstood exactly what the policy was for disabled guests, and should have contacted a supervisor.

And my understanding of the ADA is that she can't be denied access to the station (really in regards to wheelchairs and the like) however if the park policy or manufacturer says it is unsafe for someone with her disability to ride, then they have no obligation to let her ride.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I read on another coaster website from someone that recently went to a winter enthusiast event at SFGAdv that there is a chance that the park could eventually hold a Holiday in the Park event that would run on weekends from November through early January, and they would keep most of the rides open, which surprises me a bit. If they did end up having it, I would hope it goes well for them, but considering the climate park is located in, they might have some trouble keeping the rides open, especially in December and early January.

The cold weather is probably not good for coasters to operate.

You're right according to basically every other park as they all have minimum temps around the 40 degree mark but Great Adventure doesn't care about weather. That's what makes me so excited for the potential of a holiday in the park event... I could actually see them running some of their major coasters and even if they do have a temperature cutoff it would probably be really low.

I could sort of see them closing off Plaza De Carnival and Golden Kingdom and then leaving the rest of the park open. This is all a pipe dream but if they did a Holiday in the Park event that would probably be the most likely scanario since I doubt they'd want to run El Toro since it has the potential to valley and there's no reason to open Golden Kingdom since it's less you have to decorate and so easy to close off.
