Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I've also ridden the Huss Frisbee at Cedar Point. If I had to choose one, I'd ride that over Zumanjaro. Also, I doubt frisbees cost nearly what Zumanjaro cost (rumored around $10 million). I also doubt they have the problems Zumanjaro has, and the capacity it no comparison. So, why don't they get one? Hard to market a record for a giant frisbee, as it would have to be larger than the Cedar Point version, which is not heavily marketed as a record breaking ride.

It really isn't anymore...the Zamperla version is bigger. There are five existing that I'm aware of, though Kennywood's is the only one in North America.

I'd love to see the Zamperla version at Great Adventure...their operations would be more than enough to get people to stop whining about how Kennywood operates theirs!

New England's skyway is being removed, could Great Adventure's be next?

The New Englad Skyway was a joke. It was the shortest Von Roll ever and with the way Six Flags operated it it was a complete waste of time. The Skyway at Great Adventure is huge, is immensely popular, has a sponsorship deal with M&M's that most likely covers te cost of maintaining the ride and from a historical perspective the ride is a treasure.

It operated at the World's Fair in New York, I believe it's the only operating double Von roll on earth and at such a huge park it's not only a great ride but it's practical as well. Could Six Flags remove it? Sure... they're Six Flags... But it would be an awful, awful shame.

Please don't even talk about removing the Skyway. Don't even mention it. That's the best little shortcut in the park (when its not too crowded to bother). Actually it's one of the only ones.

The line usually moves at a steady clip. If its really long I wont bother but if its just down the steps on the east side (near Runaway Mine Train) or just the first row or two of the queue on the west side, I'll wait. Its worth it for the views and time you save not walking all the way across the park. On a dead day, its the best.

Maybe I'll give it a shot this season.

The reason the line for the SkyRide sucked this past season was because they were only operating one side. I remember a discussion about this a couple months ago and someone had said they were waiting for parts to arrive in order to fix the side that wasn't running. If both sides are running next season, then the line should move relatively quickly.

I think the only reason why the one at SFNE is being removed is to give WC's queue more room. I heard they plan to re-use it at another park, but I'll believe it when I see it.

As for SFGAdv's I don't see it going anywhere given that it is still pretty popular, the frontier station houses Runaway Mine Train's station and is pretty iconic, the other station is at a location that is kind of harmless, and the ride was used at a pretty iconic event (64 World's Fair). I do think they could take better care of it though as I saw quite a few gondolas looking pretty beat up with dents and duct-tape on them the other season.

I know this is off topic but, screamscape says SFOG has confirmed running their batman backwards. Does this rule out Six Flags Great Adventure making the same announcement next month?

The namtaB trains have typically only run at the past locations for a several-week period, not the full season. There's nothing stopping SFGAdv from running it later in the season after it's session at SFOG has ended.

^ He bought some Dippin' Dots the other day.

Does the Dippin Dots guy have a YouTube channel?

Back to the foolishness of a potential winter event. I just don't see this happening at Great Adventure for a few reasons.

1 - Few of the rides would be able to operate in a comfortable manner in cold temperatures even if allowed by manufacturers

2 - Rides that could operate would be the least thrilling, which makes it less appealing to thrill seekers

3 - The are plenty of winter entertainment options in the area making a paid visit less appealing to families

4 - There are not enough indoor attractions

5 - Who is going to staff the event?

However, if this was to happen on a limited basis I would not envision Golden Kingdom, Frontier Adventures or Plaza Del Carnival to even be accessible. The Boardwalk would limited to food and games. (Unless they can put a movie in the old 3D building).

Movietown would consist of Batman: Dark Knight only, Although they could use the old (bubble) theater, if it wasn't cost prohibitive.

Any other ideas on what this announcement might bring us?

What announcement? Where (specifically) did you here there will be an announcement?

I guess he heard it from SFNE:

I saw that video, but someone had also said it earlier in this discussion. Don't remember where they said it was from but they said many six flags parks were making announcements.

So I'm seriously considering purchasing a membership after reading more about it today. My biggest issue with the season pass is going through the processing every season and this seems to be a one-and-done ordeal.

Are there any drawbacks I might not be considering vs. purchasing a season pass? Might it make more sense to wait until April / May so I don't make a few months a payments, or will the price likely go up?

I have a membership because I hate processing passes at Six Flags. To their credit they've really simplified the process but I love the membership and highly recommend it.

The biometric system is great, as long as the worker knows how to work it. I had one guy who had no clue what to do.

I was told by SF guest services, the best thing to do money wise is buy the pass in full when they run the labor day sales. that's the cheapest. she did say the membership usually runs a few $$$$'s more.

^ It has been talked about in this thread for sure, a while back. Personally, I'd love a custom RMC built from the ground up, but since we have El Toro I am of the strong belief we are likely the last park in the chain being considered for one. My instincts tell me we'll get a B&M winger or an S&S free spin for our next big one, depending on the success of the one going in @ Fiesta Texas. If I ran the park we'd be getting an Intamin giga like I305, but that's really really unlikely imo.
