Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The cold weather is probably not good for coasters to operate.

You're right according to basically every other park as they all have minimum temps around the 40 degree mark but Great Adventure doesn't care about weather. That's what makes me so excited for the potential of a holiday in the park event... I could actually see them running some of their major coasters and even if they do have a temperature cutoff it would probably be really low.

I could sort of see them closing off Plaza De Carnival and Golden Kingdom and then leaving the rest of the park open. This is all a pipe dream but if they did a Holiday in the Park event that would probably be the most likely scanario since I doubt they'd want to run El Toro since it has the potential to valley and there's no reason to open Golden Kingdom since it's less you have to decorate and so easy to close off.

I feel the only coaster that would be able to run in the winter would be Nitro. It probably would not run as well as the summer, and would probably still be rough, but I can see that as a good coaster for the winter. If they were to keep some open.

Nitro is actually one of the worse rides to run in the cold because of its size but it can be run thanks to the two wheel types it has. This goes for basically every other ride at the park as well. El Toro is just the odd ball since it only has the one wheel type that is good for warm weather. I'm sure the park could get it to run though, either with wheel heaters in the station or maintenance doing that manually in the morning before the park opens. Once Toro warms up a little, its fine.

I feel a holiday event at Great Adventure wouldn't be particularly appealing. They tried something previously and it didn't last, so why try and revive it? Going to the park in winter, seeing that skyline, and not being able to ride any of it? No thank you.

They did try it in the early 2000's, but the type of event was much different compared to what is being done at the other Six Flags parks right now. According to what was documented, Winter Lights was basically a drive-through attraction with a few small shops, displays, and a kiddie train ride at the end.

I was recently talking to a friend about the idea of them being able to do something like what SFOG is doing for Holiday in the Park. It kind of is possible to do as they do have quite a few attractions that could possibly run in low temperatures.

I would bet the main part of Golden Kingdom, part of the Boardwalk, the back part of Frontier Adventures (Bizarro) would remain closed and the rest might be able to run. Don't know about Nitro though, but Black Beard, Skull Mountain, and Dark Knight would be decent coasters to run if this event could happen.

I don't know. I just feel a holiday in the park works only at parks that have their full complement of rides running. Sure, it would be nice to go visit the park in late November-early December and ride Skull Mountain a couple of times, but like I said; being in the park and seeing all the main attractions closed would be kind of a bummer. But that's just my opinion.

If Six Flags were not to keep some coasters open there would be no point in going, because they don't have a ton of flat rides. The addition of El Diablo is nice but still they don't have a ton of flats.

It's annoying too, the park could totally handle putting in a giant frisbee near the Ferris wheel and the GP would eat it up. It's sad we only have two in the U.S. and there both in Ohio...

I wish they had a Giant Frisbee at Great Adventure. Rode the one at CP, one of the best flat rides I have been on.

I've also ridden the Huss Frisbee at Cedar Point. If I had to choose one, I'd ride that over Zumanjaro. Also, I doubt frisbees cost nearly what Zumanjaro cost (rumored around $10 million). I also doubt they have the problems Zumanjaro has, and the capacity it no comparison. So, why don't they get one? Hard to market a record for a giant frisbee, as it would have to be larger than the Cedar Point version, which is not heavily marketed as a record breaking ride.
