Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The park was slightly more crowded than past weekdays so far this year since it was Student Council day but around 3:45 the school groups started to leave and lines got to 10 minutes or less after that. The advice to avoid the C train on Nitro was a good idea. The A and B trains are so much better and I was avoided the C train even if it meant having to wait an extra train. Dispatches were fast on Nitro too with no double stacking.

Those trains look really great 3 across. I would imagine that all 3 have to be loaded at the same time. Afterall, you cant have guests running around where cars are freefalling. This is a bummer as loading 1 train while the other/s are in cycle would keep the line moving non-stop. Has the park released any capacity estimates?

^ woolandmammoth is actually probably correct as Lex Luthor operates the same way. The cars raise in unison.

That being said I don't see why that's a problem. I actually think this ride will have very good capacity for a drop tower. It won't quite be an Intamin gyro drop but it's definitely not too shabby. I'm starting to get really excited for this ride.

I find those restraints curious. On one hand, they don't look like OTSR as that part that actually holds you is the "lap part" but, on the other hand, those bars do not give quite the same freedom as normal lap bars. Hmmm.....

I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures of it yesterday while I was in the park, but it's clear why they need to delay things - there is still a LOT of lanscaping / queue work left to be done for Zumanjaro. There's been some progress since a couple weeks ago, including the construction of some shade structures / buildings down by the ride itself, but they still seem to be in the early stages.

I had posted her a few weeks back about the rides i could ride. Most of you said everything cept El Toro. So....I went to Lake Compounce, I was able to ride everything (Boulder dash, wildcat, zoomerang, thunder n lightening). Only boulder dash was a tad tight....

With that said.... how is El Toro compared to boulder dash? or not comparable at all? Thanks in advance for the help!

Can I get an opinion from the SFGAdv regulars? Crowds on nice Sundays in May EARLY in the day? Doesnt look like any events are happening, weather is looking like 70 and partly sunny. We are planning on going at opening this Sunday and obviously I'm hoping to not have to wait in many lines. I really just want to re-ride Toro a bunch and then bounce lol. Opinions? Thanks!

El Toro is a lot tighter fit. It's a much different restraint, so it's hard to compare, but El Toro is WAY more restrictive than almost any other ride (besides MF and TTD at Cedar Point).

^^Get there before opening (just a few minutes so you're not stuck behind a large group at the entrance) and head right to El Toro as you said. You should get at leat 2 rides without getting off, and a few more waiting no more than 2 trains. As for crowds in general, I can't say for sure, but with no events I can't imagine it would be packed at all.

^^ Its really a washout in Philly today - been POURING all day. No lightning tho, so I'd imagine they would still run stuff but would they maybe shut the entire park down if it pouring buckets and was completely empty?

Thats what I'm thinking! I have absolutely nothing to do Sunday, weather looks perfect and this season pass is burning a hole in my wallet. My buddy loves coasters but hasnt been to SFGAdv in 10+ years and we all know its always fun to take first time riders on Toro, Nitro etc. I told him let's go early and marathon anything we can til it gets crowded. Also excited to visit with the knowledge of avoiding train C on Nitro, thanks guys!

I know. My point was more that it's silly to think people can't board a car next door to one that's dropping, because dozens of drop tower combinations like that already exist. They can rise up together all they want (because it's cheaper and more efficient to use one motor instead of three), but the concern isn't the people on the ground.

There is an event this Sunday, DanceFest.

It might add to crowds a little but probably not too bad.

Ugh don't know how I missed that. Thanks Yoshi. Hopefully we'll be entering at opening and can get a bunch in before it gets too bad.

It's kind of hidden, when you go to the events page:

https://www.sixflags.com/greatadventure/special-events

It lists the featured events by default. Next to where it says featured is a tab that says Special and Group Events where all the other events like school events and the dance events are listing.

dodnt forget sunday is also one of the weekends a season pass holder can use the e-coupon to bring a friend free. that might affect crowds

I made it out to the park this morning. Despite the weather, crowds were fairly light and most rides were walk ons. A good day in my book. Since lines were so short, I rode BTR in the front row for the first time in a while. All I can say is WOW. Ive ridden BTR atleast a hundred or so times, but today was the best runs Ive had on it in a while. Smooth and forceful as heck! El Toro was running very rough (for El Toro, would be GLASS for any other woodie). I think the rain and wind had more to do with this rougness than anything. Ride still delivers big time in the ejector department and thats all that counts! Also had a good run on Green Lantern. Usually I skip it, but Im glad I didnt!

I was able to sneek a peak at Zoomanjaro's queue from El Toro's station. The area is receiving lots of foliage and is looking nice. There was a bunch of guys in hardhats and button down shirts suffling about where Rolling Thunder's station and lift used to be. The enthusiast inside of me wants to spectulate, but I honestly have no clue what could be going on.

The absolute highlight of my day was Houdini's Great Escape. I guess it was everyone's first time or something because they were all VERY impressed. At the rides conclusion, some peoples faces were a combonation of seeing a beautiful painting and a crazy magic trick. Ive never seen people so amazed in my entire life. It was almost... beautiful...
