Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^ I agree with you on the GCI for this park. I can't even remember the last GCI Six Flags installed...boy its been a while.

It was in 2009 with Terminator (now Apocalypse) at SFMM. Also, wasn't El Toro down for a bit on opening weekend? They could have been called in to check it out. I remember last year when a similar thing happened at SfGam, although I think this turned out to be just some random guy who bought an RMC sweatshirt online.

I would just hope more than anything that they would put one over in Movie Town...or really just anywhere that it wouldn't be sitting right next to another huge wooden coaster.

I've always seen an X-Flight fitting in here really well, and I'm kind of surprised they haven't gone that route already. Always imagined it being the first step to revitalising that whole abandoned section of the park...maybe one day.

^That's what I thought. There are a few rides not popular among us that the GP loves but that doesn't appear to be the case. The same goes for gatekeeper: I haven't heard many people saying: OMG that was awesome!

Given this, would find it odd (to say the least) that they would do such thing. (but who knows....)

I can definitely see a wingrider where chiller used to be... ideally using the observatory for a keyhole element of some kind.

It seems like a perfect fit for this park since we pretty much have every other type of coaster. I don't think a RMC coaster makes any sense since we already have El Toro... a wingrider is the obvious choice.

I would love to see a medium GCI woodie around the lake. Take out the grandstand. It isn't used. That whole lakefront area past blackbeard is dead. No one goes there. It would fit great with all the trees around the lake. But what'll probably happen is a wing coaster either in PDC or by the Chiller

If we build up that area, where will I get my mid afternoon nap?!?!

In regulars to the next coaster, sadly I think a wooden coaster near el toro is inevitable... Sad too, I think it doesn't hold a chance next to el toro, nor do I think a ride that would challenge el toro would be good either. Honestly, a nice sized family coaster, or a euro fighter would be a better thing to put there... Especially if it used the station of rolling thunder backwards, had a launch out the break run, jumped over to that enormous space wasted by putting in green lantern at the wrong angle... Then we could still use the rolling thunder land for expansion.

I still would love to see them re open the fantasy forest area new the Ferris wheel and put a ground hugging Mid sized woodie that stretches next to the parking lot, turn around at the water tower and come back. It would be a great medium sized thrill, which the park is lacking greatly!

There was also an RMC truck that was on site. So it wasn't just a few guys wearing sweatshirts, but it could've been for el toro. The world may never know...

El Toro is amazing, but it has gotten a little shaky in the wheel seats. I'm a little concerned that Six Flags won't take proper care of this coaster and down the line it may not be quite as amazing as it is now. Hopefully if your story is true, it shows that Six Flags is planning on doing some semi-major maintenance on the ride.

But we still don't have a source, so I'm going to go ahead and ignore this RMC thing until we have one.

El Toro was down yesterday too...

Yes, most likely because we had ice and snow in the morning.

I guess but every other ride opened. And I checked midday and there was no ice. It didn't even make rest runs

I know at Dollywood when they have ice and snow during the Christmas event, Thunderhead is always the last coaster to open back up so I think that's probably the cause. Snow and Ice seem to be more of an issue for wood coasters than steel coasters. Then again... I'm no expert, I'm just making an observation.

The space where Rolling Thunder's lift used to be (where the drop goes under El Toro) looks like a perfect straight run for a launched coaster. It's a shame though, because you can't have that, because it couldn't compete with KK, and you can't build another wood, because it wouldn't be able to compete with ET.

El Toro runs very slow in the cold when we start it up. Maintenance was probably hesitant to run it cause the first test run would probably saddle. The park actually retracked portions of the ride over the winter. I don't think anyone noticed yet but there's some new track at the top of the 2nd camel back and the turn out of the first break run into the break run before the station. It's prefabricated track too, not a cheap wooden replacement. I'm working at the ride this year and so from what I've observed, the park treats that ride like its baby. Don't worry about it falling under repair. haha

Also I don't see RMC goin to a park to fix a ride they didn't completely build/rebuild. I think this has to be for a new addition...

RMC was primarily a construction company that almost exclusively built and maintained/refurbished coasters before they began building their own. Hence, Rocky Mountain Construction.
