Shellemonster Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Cool stuff, thanks for the pictures and the commentary.
coasterfreaksrttd Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 This is awesome! This is exactly what KD needs. I'm pretty psyched that I will have an Intamin Giga less than an hour away from my house!
spivey8 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 i seen the video was posted but didnt see the nbc 12 news web link, sorry
KDCOASTERFAN Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Now that the independence day festivities are over the construction should begin to kick into high gear this week.
thrillrideseeker Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hey has anyone considered that this might end up being a launched coaster? Becasue knowing kings dominions past, they have really liked their launched coasters. They have Volcano, Flight of Fear, Italian Job, and they had Hypersonic. Plus the cable lift and hydraulic launch tracks look the same, so there is a possibility of it being a launched giga! Just a suggestion i was thinking about. If you look at the photos of the lift, you will notice there is no space for the copper alloy fins, which means this could not be a launched coaster.~Matthew
cycamps Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I must be a tad out-of-the-loop, because I just looked at those pics on page 58, and there is no way I could have read through all of those other pages. So anyways, it's exciting to think that another Giga is being built, and it's making me a tad anxious thinking that we haven't heard about anything possibly getting built at CP. Either way, a Giga would be a nice fit for KD
Swiftman Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 This is my first post here at TPR. I, believe-it-or-not, read EVERY page of this thread (took me a VERY long time) and I am extremely exited about the news. I live less than an hour away from KD and can't wait to see what they come up with. I don't know if I will be able to get over there this year (have Busch passes this year) but if I do, I will take pictures and tell you'll what I see. Â The Swiftman

Kennyweird Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^ It can't be because some of the track sections have a groove for a catch-car. But then again, you probably weren't being serious, were you?
Eric_Smith Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^No. I was not being serious. Just bustin' some chops.
Diamondback'09 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I know this was probably mentioned somewhere else, but i hope that the trains are similar to Millennium Force's. I like the stadium style seating it has. I also hope it has lap bars instead of OTSRs.
dragsterfan420 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I was also thinking this might be a launched coaster. But the biggest throw off is the packages saying "Giga Coaster" on 'em.
Ccron10 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Why is everyone saying it's going to be launched? Didn't we say a few pages ago that it will use a cable lift hill? There weren't any slots for brake fins on the lift pieces. The double spine track is probably going to be used at a high stress area such as the bottom of the drops.
sfkk339 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^Isn't there such thing as a cable launch? Yes but as mentioned there are no brake fin slots making a launching coaster out of the question.
cfc Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^Plus, Kings Dominion needs another launched coaster as much as it needs a hole in the head. Â We shall see.
Homeboy23 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Didn't you hear the plans about making every coaster launched.
cfc Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^I'd be quite happy if they launched Anaconda to the moon.
Meteornotes Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^I think a lot of people would pay to see that happen. Â dt
GoldRusheROCKS Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Too many pages to go through them all, but is that layout accurate/confirmed?
Austin5 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^ No, less than 3 pages back the person that made the post says that he was just seeing if a coaster could fit into that space. Â hey guys, i'm the one who made the "recreation" of the KD giga in No Limits. Â My primary goal was to see if a Giga would actually fit in the space provided. it does. i looked at google earth images of the area and made sure i had the scale and shape correct and then i basically just plopped....
redfoot12 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^^Although somebody mentioned going to the Hanover County courthouse and snagging a picture of the layout. The No Limits design was based on that picture. Take that for what it's worth. I won't believe anything until an official announcement.
CorkscrewFoley Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 ^Isn't there such thing as a cable launch? Yes but as mentioned there are no brake fin slots making a launching coaster out of the question. Â What about a hydraulic lift like Bakken's Tornado...or does that require brake fins?
