Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

Recommended Posts

Okay, Okay, and OKAY!!!

I've been scrolling through pages of pages of posts and I really failed to see what's so bad about Dorney Park renaming a coaster from VOODOO to POSSESSED. The latter sounds more threatening of a name - think you can handle it when the spirits move you in new and exciting directions? The new name sounds more menacing as a coaster name.

As for me, I am possessed to travel up to Dorney Park this summer and ride it several times.

Besides, Voodoo is really a religion. Do you think anyone would want to ride a coaster called "Muslim", "Hindu", or "Catholic"?

"Hey, what about me? I've got a religion too, you know."

"Oh sure. Riders always find religion whenever they ride a coaster. Whenever riders go down that first hill, they always scream out 'OH MY GOD'! I never heard any of them scream out 'OH MY DEVIL'!"

"Aww . . . kiss my !!!

Catholic...? Like, "Catholic School Girl: The Ride?" Yeah, I could handle that.

Oh, and Voodoo isn't just a religion. It can also be a spell or a curse, or even just be a synonym for "nonsense."

/Thought Voodoo was better, but not worth getting sued over.

Voodoo may be a "religion"... but its not really as public as Muslim or Catholic.

I mean, its not like you ever drive down the street and you see "Voodoo Church".

Catholic School Girl Ride. Nice.

Well I faced the music with this new name. At least the logo is still there. I'll get my Voodoo shirt airbrushed. I joked with a Dorney fan that Dorney could get a wooden sign carved at Knoebels that they could just screw in over the old Voodoo name on the main sign.

"Billy Witch Doctor Dot Com feel more comfortable with Possessed."

  • 4 months later...

We're planning a trip to SFGAdv, Dorney and SFNE... and I'm now worried about going to Dorney.

I read that Allentown is kind of a ''dangerous city''... but dangerous at what point? How is the park security? How is the neighborhood in which the park is located? Do I worry too much?

Thanks in advance.

Dorney is away from actual downtown Allentown and is in an ok area.

Security is serious at Dorney, most of the guards carry guns and are there in a few minutes when there is a problem (the only problems I have witneseed are line cutting).

I have been to the park 50+ times since 2005 and never felt unsafe.

I would avoid going on a weekend if possible since the summer weekends have a lot of bus trips with some questionable crowds (to put it nicely, not really dangerous but more trouble making) but I always go during the week and like I said I have never felt unsafe during those visits.

I used to go several times a year and have never had a bad experience, but then again I always keep to myself and keep my nose clean. I wouldn't call Allentown a dangerous city, it's actually pretty nice.

I have stories about Orlando, FL though... Just yikes.

I was at Dorney Park about a week and a half ago for the first time and did not have any problems at all. We went on a Sunday night and got a Starlite pass and still got most of the coasters in once or twice. The staff was about as friendly as any other park that I have been too - some were better than others. There were no issues with the GP either - don't worry, you'll be fine.

My only suggestion is that you make sure you ride ThunderHawk in the very front seat for some great ejector air on the hills!!!! This was the highlight of the visit for me!

You don't have anything to worry about. The park is not actually in Allentown, it's in South Whitehall Township. Downtown Allentown can be ruff but you won't have to worry about that. The park is very friendly and the crowds are just fine. The only time I have had bad experiences is on Saturdays.

If the town was in downtown Allentown, then it might be unsafe. I drove through it back a few months ago and I have to say it looks similar to Reading (which is as worse or even worser). I went 3 years ago and you do have to worry about the other guests because they can be annoying and sometimes snobbish.

It could've been worse though.
