VinTheAttendant
I don't think that one person's death is more or less tragic than another person's, but Davy Jones' definitely touched my heart the closest. My mom raised me on classics like the Beatles, the Monkees, and a couple other groups, and I was even introduced to the tv show. So yeah, Davy Jones' played a role in my childhood and I will certainly miss him. Rest in peace my good man!
robbalvey
Robert Sherman of "The Sherman Brothers" dies at age 86. I actually worked with these guys on The Jungle Book video game in 1993. Robert was a great guy. Sad to see him go. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-robert-sherman-20120307,0,741658.story
gisco
Robert Sherman, for the first time in a number of pages in this thread I'm sad to see someone passing. Last time I was in London I went and saw the play Mary Poppins primarily because one of my favorite songs is Feed the Birds. I didn't know at the time he wrote it. no_brain_er
"Dick Clark, the music industry maverick, longtime TV host and powerhouse producer who changed the way we listened to pop music with American Bandstand, and whose trademark Rockin' Eve became a fixture of New Year's celebrations, died today at the age of 82, ABC News has learned." He was 71. "He passed away peacefully at 1:30 this afternoon surrounded by his friends and bandmates," Helm's longtime guitarist Larry Campbell tells Rolling Stone. "All his friends were there, and it seemed like Levon was waiting for them. Ten minutes after they left we sat there and he just faded away. He did it with dignity. It was even two days ago they thought it would happen within hours, but he held on. It seems like he was Levon up to the end, doing it the way he wanted to do it. He loved us, we loved him." Sir Clinksalot
Wow, takes a lot to shock me in regards to a celebrity death, but this may have done it. http://www.tmz.com/2012/05/02/junior-seau-dead/#.T6F8c-hik4c NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA ... and a law enforcement source at the scene tells us cops believe he shot himself. Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife. Cops are currently at Seau's home -- located in San Diego County -- and were seen talking with a man who was inside the house and appeared distraught. Sir Clinksalot
Apparently he shot himself in the chest. That's a slow way to die.
BeemerBoy
I'm reading that it could be a similar situation to former Chicago Bears safety, Dave Duerson. Duerson was found dead at his Sunny Isles Beach, Florida home on February 17, 2011. The Miami-Dade County medical examiner reported that Duerson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He sent a text message to his family saying he wanted his brain to be used for research at the Boston University School of Medicine, which is conducting research into chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) caused by playing pro football. On May 2, 2011 researcher neurologists at Boston University confirmed that he suffered from a neurodegenerative disease linked to concussions. Hilltopper39
^Kind of a different type of death but Chris Henry's brain was also donated to research after he died. There are several active players who have all ready willed their brains to research after their death. Really is sad to hear about Seau, I always wondered why he didn't get into broadcasting after his playing career was over, seemed like he was a great speaker and commentator from what I remember. Should be a first ballot hall of famer.
FeelTheFORCE
It wouldn't surprise me if Seau's brain was equivalent to that of an elderly man in his 70s, if not older. It's so sad seeing some of these former players deteriorate so quickly because of concussions and whatnot.
Jew
Fight On Junior Seau. One of the all time greats at both USC and in the NFL. Sad to lose such a great guy so early.
BelizeIt
There's a unique statistic in regards to Seau's death. Seau is now the 8th player from the 94' Superbowl team to die. (All of the players died before the age of 45) After getting bashed around for all those years (He played for almost 2 decades) Who knows how all those hits effects the brain. This situation is sad, he had an amazing NFL career, he's gone way before his time.

viking86
On April 30th Norwegian swimmer Alexander Dale Oen was found dead in the hotel bathroom during a training camp in Arizona, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. He won silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke final in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and he won the 100-meter breaststroke final in the 2011 World Championship in Shanghai. He was our best hope for medals in the upcoming 2012 Olympics in London and he was really looking forward to it. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2012/05/01/20120501flagstaff-swimming-world-champ-dale-oen-dies-training-camp.html Very sad and shocking to see a young athlete, as well as a great guy, suddenly be gone just like that. Makes you wonder how much stress being a top athlete puts on the human body...
