Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I haven't heard anything in awhile on it. It's looking like 2017 though.

Does anyone know what the new poles in Africa by Zulu are going to be used for? Is it a new version of hot summer lights again?

New light poles

WOW! NEW light poles!!! I guess this is not much of an "off season" after all! Holy S***!

Sorry about the double post, but here is some new info on the project:

-All rides are testing.

-Collectively, all the rides costs the park around $2 million. I don't know if that includes Timberwolf but that is about $1 million in itself.

-Park will add the world's first giga aquatrax in 2017.

Overall the park did pretty well this year in terms of expansions. Right now it seems like Worlds of Fun is betting treated miles better than Dorney and Valleyfair with the Planet Snoopy expansions, Steelhawk, Dinosaurs Alive, Timber Wolf GCI treatment, Grand Carousel, and Oceans of Fun slide tower/park renovation just within the past 5 years. That's not including all the HAUNT attractions as well, which cost a pretty penny the way Worlds of Fun constructs them.

CP fanboys will be pissed when they hear this.

The truth hurts.

I'm sure they're already jealous that Worlds of Fun got Linus Launcher this year.

Those really are fun. We get a bigger version at our fair each year, that has 3 riders per arm and 12 arms. I have a feeling this will be the big hit of the five.

What´s interesting is that on Zamperla´s website, Kite Flyers are not in the ¨kiddie¨ category but is instead in the ¨family¨ and ¨tween¨ categories, so maybe this ride will be a little better than I expect it to be. But I do think the new set of Flying Scooters will be the best ride in Planet Snoopy, by far. I kinda wish they put it in the park somewhere else like CW and VF did so I don´t look creepy standing in line for a kiddie ride with a bunch of kids.

Well at least we have confirmation that Thunderhawk is gone now. I have to admit that they might as well close off that entire section and use the Haunt exit for TimberWolf this season. There is absolutely no need to have guests in that area with nothing in there. Both Huss rides can go in that area along with the Triotech ride to completely reinvent that area.

We knew Crazy Cars were leaving after last year. I don't know why they need additional storage there unless it's for Haunt but it seems a shame that another ride is leaving. Snoopy Bounce is no big loss.

Love the awning/facade for Beagle Brigade

I would love to see a Kamikaze type ride back there again. Zamperla makes a similar version of it. They could even market it as a brought back ride if they wanted to. I feel like a Slingshot would work back there as well with a dark ride in the arcade. A tall ride would bring the GP back there and they would pay for it. Look at how popular ripcord is. However the park has stated they aren't interested in up charge attractions, (hence the removal of The rock and the go carts). I wouldn't even mind the condor back there. I wonder if that area is even going to be opened opening day through Haunt? I guess we'll have to wait and see. The kids rides looked great though!

Looks like Worlds of Fun will not be opening Steelhawk nor 2 of the 5 new rides for Planet Snoopy Opening Weekend.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- As Worlds of Fun gears up for it's 2016 season, some rides at Worlds of Fun, including their tallest and newest, will be at a stand still Opening Weekend. Worlds of Fun's newest thrill ride, Steelhawk, will not be operational for guests who come excited to ride April 16th. The park announced Friday that a malfunction in the 301 ft. tall ride's programming has caused it to enter a mode where the ride will seemingly strand itself in the air in order to protect the safety of it's riders. Park officials confirm that there is no safety concerns with this malfunction, just the programming that controls the ride.

Additionally, the park has also announced that two of the five new rides slated to open in the park's Planet Snoopy kid's area are also not expected to open with the park due to tight time constraints. Woodstock Gliders, a family ride where groups of two can control their vehicles motion, and Snoopy Junction, a small railroad ride for small children, will be delayed a week in order to get the rides running at their full safety intentional.

"Sometimes, rides and attractions at a park do no cooperate with our schedule." Said Wayne Meadows, director of maintenance at Worlds of Fun. "We would never risk the safety of our guests on these attractions. Therefore, we have found it necessary to keep these attractions resting until they are ready to deliver the experience we expect to them."

Meanwhile at Worlds of Fun, the park will continue to operate it's 41 other attractions, including three of the five new Planet Snoopy rides, on Opening Day, April 16th.

So basically, here's a recap of the improvements this season:

-5 new Planet Snoopy rides.

-Timberwolf retracking (2/4)

-2 new shows for summer

-Some of Mamba repainted

-No more Thunderhawk

-More Coca-Cola freestyle machines

We'll have to see when the European flat rides are installed, but overall it has been a great off season. Let's again hope something big is coming, but I've been saying "THIS YEAR IS THE YEAR!" since 2012.
