Best and Worst Log Flumes

Recommended Posts

I LOVE log flumes. My favorite has to be Log Jammer at SFMM. I haven't really been on a bad one either, but I have to say my least favorite was a portable one I rode at the IX Indoor Amusement Park a few years back. The water was really nasty and on top of that my friend and I did get wet and smelled all day. Ick.

If you haven't checked out any of the Behemoth/Ravine Flyer II updates on the main page, There we covered 2 very unexpected and very awesome Log Flumes.

The one at Martin's Fantasy Island was flipping fantastic. For looking like it was hand made, and only having about a 30 foot drop, we all got off DRENCHED. The other one was at Seabreeze. The drop came out of no where. It was like it was trying to be a Dudley, but still came out fantastic. It also had some weird trick-track to it.

But still, my favorite Log Flume, is Dudley. Though, I have yet to do it with the lap bars. That just sounds LAME.

And of corse, Splash Mountain.

I don't have a least favorite, as I am a big big Log Flume fan, and I never hate a Log Flume

For the U.S., both Splash Mountains and Dudley should be put aside as they are in their own league and had budgets that were higher than some total parks.

Some of the best Arrows: Log Jammer (SFMM), Timber Mountain (KBF), Texas Splashdown (SWSA), White Water Landing (CP)

Some of the best Hopkins: Zoom Phloom (Morey's), Log Flume (Myrtle Beach Pavilion), Log Chute (Nick Universe @ MOA), Yule Log (Santa's Village).

Europe has a plethora of amazing flume rides- mostly from Mack (who had a license agreement with Arrow to use their technology) and Intamin. Not sure why the Intamin reversing flumes never caught on here in the States. The model at Holiday Park is a perfect example.

Zoom Phloom at Morey's Piers in Wildwood, NJ hand down. I like it even more than Splash Mountain at WDW. It's pretty long, has two steep drops and a portion that runs under the pier.

The old log flume that used to be at Funtown Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ was pretty good as well.

The worst is probably any of those Niagara Falls portable log flumes.

i haven't been in the U.S so i only can say a few flumes from around here in europe.

The best one for me is indiana river (bobbejaanland), it's totally indoor, the drops aren't very high but they ar in the dark and you get wet most of the time you do it.

The worst one for me is river splash in bellewaerde.

After riding Splash Mtn. in Disneyland, I had totally forgot about how AWESOME it is!!! It's a different seating than WDW's, and so you get more of the 'log flume' style of ride; rather than two seater, wide boats. I completely loved the ride, and I even got stuck at the bottom of the hill and was caught in a massive log-jam! LOL! The drop looks like nothing from where the line is....but OMG! It's huuuuge! You only see about half of it! Yeah, I love the heck out of this ride and miss Disneyland sooo much already.

I completely agree, I like the DL version much better than WDW's, it is faster paced and more of a true flume ride. The WDW version is fun but it drags a little, and the DL version has a better setup for the drop!

1. Dudley Do Right, IOA

2. Splash Mountain, WDW (better theming than Dudley, but the ride is slower paced and just less fun to me.)

I don't think of any flumes I've been on as "bad" but I was let down by those at Lake Compounce and Knoebel's. They both are built on/ near large hillsides and don't really take advantage.

I've seen a couple people comment to the effect that Splash Mountain & Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls are in a class of their own. And while I don't disagree, per say, I would point out (for anyone that might not know) that they are both clearly patterned on the Timber Mountain Log Ride at Knott's--which in my mind, is still superior to either of them.*

I also like Daredevil Falls at Dollywood, the Big Timber Log Ride at Enchanted Forest in Oregon, Frightful Falls at Holiday World, and the Boat Chute at Lake Winnie.

In general, I don't much care for ones that are unthemed and high-in-the air.

*For the sake of full disclosure: I have worked at Disneyland, KBF, and IOA (including a two-year stint on Ripsaw).

Best log flume IMO would be the one that gets you wet, and is fun and unexpected. My vote goes for the flume at LeSourdsville Lake. I got less wet after some raft rides! I like it better than the overly themed ones at the major parks like Disney and Universal, but that's just because I like vintage rides and old-school thrills.

As for the worst, the stupid portable model at Beech Bend. WTF?

Best:

Splash Mountain- Disneyland

Log Jammer- Six Flags Magic Mountain

Worst:

Well, I haven't really been on many bad log flumes, so the worst still isn't that bad. Anyway, I'd have to go with Kings Mills Log Flume, now Wild Thornberrys River Adventure.

I couldn't agree more! Wild Thornberry's Adventure is so pointless! The only way you get wet is the Elephant at the end that sprays water on you.

Splash Mountain definitely is the best themed...And Log Jammer is the most fun!

Best--Splash Mountain (Disneyland)

Worst--Roaring Creek Log Flume (Silverwood). It's still cute, though.

I can enjoy basically any log flume (even though I don't like wet rides).

So about Roaring Creek Log Flume. I like how it seems to go fast at the beginning, and it's in a kinda pretty nature-like setting, but it's low to the ground and I prefer being high up. The worst part, though, is that the main drop is pretty short and unexciting (it's also unthemed, iirc).

Best: Splash Mountain (WDW/DL)

Wild Wild West - Movie World Australia

Splashdown - SeaWorld San Antonio

Dollywood's flume

Worst: Race Charlie Brown - Kings Island

If it counts, Pilgrims Plunge, I thought, was horrible.
