Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

A friendly reminder from your TPR Moderators:

We have had to lock this thread in the past because of the constant negativity and whining from local members/fanboys. For the most part, this thread has gotten a TON better but a couple of you seem to be unable to let the past go and keep repeating the same nauseating crap. So, if you see your post disappear, you now know the reason. It is one thing to be negative, but when the majority of your posts are about how disappointing a park has become and you will never go back there, we would rather not have those posts remain on the board.

^No offense but we see that sort of complaining in the CGA thread all the time & posts havn't been deleted, people are gonna voice their negative opinions about a specific park in a given thread regardless...that's just the way public forums on any given subject works be it video games, politics or theme parks.

I'm hoping SFA will improve but it's gonna take them alot of work before I feel confident enough as a customer to return again, the decisions made concerning the management/operations of the park over the past decade really left a bad feeling in my mind & they need to work really hard to change that.

Gentlemen,

Enough.

Let's keep this thread from devolving into a gripefest about which park has the "most negative fans," OK?

As for me, I've had two good visits, and one bad visit, to SFA over the years. Maybe I'll fianlly amble up there again this season to see how things are going.

My latest responses in this tread were basically trying to say that SFA shouldn't be singled out as if its the only park with needs for improvement. This park has done a complete 180 especially since 07. I love the park and staff. I spent everyday this past summer at the park, literally. Folks SHOULD give it a shot. Guest Service is the best it has been in years! I am looking forward to the new addition to the park and the good to come down the road.

Chuck- I'm stealing that .gif for the Games Forum... And congratulations on getting me to eject coke out my nose during lunch....

As for SFA:

People need to give the park a break. I think we are about to see SFInc. start to pay some more attention to the park, as moving Wolfpocalypse is a start. Removing a ride with a horrible failure rate is a good clue they know what they are doing- and that the park needs some love. It isn't as if SF has simply ignored the place- but rather, trying to figure out the best solution to the problem in the first place.

I am quite happy with the changes that I am reading about at SFA. It does appear that things are being done to make the guest experience there enjoyable again. Perhaps I'll journey that way again this summer and check it out! As far as the nay-sayers in this thread go - their complaining actually makes me want to go even more.

^ and Bobby - perhaps we can arrange it so we can meet up if I go this summer! It would be great to see you again!

I'm hoping to get here this summer. It's one of the few big parks under 5 hours away, I haven't been to. As for the reputation the park has, as of right now just from rumblings, it can't be any worse than La Ronde, so I look forward to visiting the park. Plus I need to make use of my season pass at other Six Flags parks besides Great Adventure.

I stopped by SFA for the first time last year. I went on a Sunday around the beginning of May. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the park was. It was a cloudy day with light mist/rain so the park was empty. The staff were extremely friendly, greeting me at the entrance to every queue. Staff in the stations were very chatty with me between dispatches. Batwing had some troubles throughout the day but every time it went down, the maintenance crew was there fairly quickly to get it back up and running. It's amazing to read about the state of the park from years ago. I can definitely say the park I visited last year was nothing close to those descriptions. I highly recommend giving SFA another shot if you haven't in the past few years.

^I don't think it actually got the new trains. I'm pretty sure they just repainted and fixed up the chassis and such, but didn't actually replace the trains from the ground up. So hopefully they'll run smoother, but we'll see...

From pics I've seen they are indeed the original trains, does anyone know if the guage on B&M's sandups was changed between IW & the larger rides like Mantis or RR? that may explain why new trains weren't ordered for the ride.

I took my first trip there back in July and had a similar experience. The park has some really gorgeous areas that you just don't see at parks out here in California. I also ran into Batwing having downtime, but luckily I rode it prior to it going down for most the day. The Batwing crew was also AWESOME(along with most the staff in the park). Superman and Joker's Jinx were both awesome rides. Having been on the Flight of Fear's I was happy to see that they didn't have the trims in the middle of Jinx.

I wasn't too impressed with Roar, having ridden DK's all these years, but it could be a great ride if they ever got Millennium Flyers for it. Wild One was spectacular though and is very under appreciated I think.

Overall I think SFA was a pretty solid park and worth a visit.

From what I've heard, the trains had all just be extensively rebuilt the year before so it wasn't worth the cost to buy new ones when the old ones were basically brand new. I believe nothing is different in regards to track size from other stand-ups.

People are saying nice things about SFA? Is this Opposite Day?

On a more serious note, I continue to be impressed with SFA's turnaround in operations, cleanliness and staff friendliness that began in the 2010 season and has continued since. With the exception of the cancellation of "Bring a Friend Free" days last fall, which I ranted about earlier in this thread, I've had nothing but good experiences there.

After the "Bring a Friend Free" issue last year, I had said I wasn't going to purchase a season pass for this year... but calmer heads have since prevaled, and we've not only pre-purchased ours again for opening day, but bought one for a friend, as well, to take advantage of a deal that allowed us to pay less for four season passes plus parking than we would have for three season passes plus parking.
