Who cares At least Orlando is finally moving up in the world. What Disney needs to do is open theme park that actually a thrill park now there's a novel approach to compete with Six Flags and what not that would be cool.

Really? The number one park chain in the WORLD needs to compete with Six Flags?

Oy vey.

I was really hoping they would have the coaster nearly complete before finding out the whole layout, that way we wouldn't have 5 pages of people judging the coaster by a 2D drawing. Oh well. I'm just happy Manta was too far along to pull the plug when InBev came into the picture.

True but we need a real thrill park here come on that's what's been lacking here in Orlando for years since Boardwalk and Baseball died out

Disney in no way, shape, or form needs to try and one up Six Flags. They aren't nearly the same type of theme park experience. Disney offers family attractions with some thrill rides here and there and Six Flags is just the opposite which led to a lot of their problems.

Well, what's Islands of Adventure? I get what you're saying though.

BTW, I live right outside of Casselberry, haha.

EDIT: Also, by the looks of the layout, it seems that the exit to the Pretzel Loop threads through the Pretzel Loop itself. Seems like we're going to have a really sharp turn right there.

I've yet to visit Orlando but it seems like it's set. I mean with IOA, USF, The Disney parks, and BGT it seems like their are nice concetraion of parks with a robust variety. What is a thrill park in that area going to offer that wouldn't be repetative in the other parks? Manta is a great addition to the area. I'm sure that with some type of combo pass exists (a la the Hollywood City Pass we have in L.A.) to let you visit a good deal of each park in the area. There is no need for a thrill park in this sector. Besides, I'm pretty sure Six Flags Over Georgia makes a good deal of money in the Southeast region.

Although I'd love to see Disney's take on a more thrill-oriented park, you're probably not going to see that any time soon. California Adventure sorta went that way and that park has not done well.

Besides, Orlando has two major coasters opening next year. You have very little to complain about.

I think the ending will probably be more thrilling after the block than The Hulk, haha.
Okay I seriously just fell over laughing.

See to me Manta is between Tatsu and Air in looks. Its going to be world class, B&M makes the flyer or as they dub it a "prone" coaster, to be more about flight than thrill. So this being said, I think its going to be awesome.

I'm excited for this coaster. It may not look good to some on paper but you never know, it may surprise you.

The first half does look thrilling and I think the second half would be more close to the ground (or water) action. A little mix of Tatsu and Air?

I think this will be a great addition to SeaWorld Orlando and don't forget, there is a whole exhibit and aquarium to it as well. Take it for what it is, SeaWorld wasn't aiming to make the best flying coaster, they wanted something unique and I believe they will succeed in that.

mike??? lol...i use to live in Casselberry

Just to answer the residence question around sea world...I think the closest residential area is behind Aquatica's parking lot

I don't see how anyone could be disappointed by a 2D layout? We don't know anything about the elevation changes other than it shows the block at 45' high or so. I think it could end up being a great ending, skimming close to the surface of the water, past a waterfall, into a flat spin and the brakes. I'm just glad that it's a totally unique layout and not some clone or even semi-clone.

Also, I've been trying to visualize how it will make the left hand turn out of the pretzel when it threads itself. At this rate, we'll probably find out in the next few days. That could end up being a pretty intense turn/dive combo.

I agree Cory. Again, while I agree that I don't fully understand the purpose of the block on this ride, I don't think it will have all that much of an affect on the ending. The block is barely used on Kraken, in fact a lot of days its completely off. There was no new track lifted into place when I left work at 4, however they had placed 3 new supports and were hauling in several truck loads of track to the site. With the two tallest supports for the Pretzel now in place, you can get a really good perspective of how Manta is going to fit in the SeaWorld skyline....its looking good and I'm actually very much looking forward to it.

I love that this thread's like the opposite of the Diamondback thread. People see Manta's construction and are totally excited, then they see the layout and are sad. With Diamondback, people saw the layout and were disappointed, but now that construction's going on, people seem excited.

It's a friggin' roller coaster. A B&M at that. It's going to have a unique splash element. It's going to have a pretzel loop.

I'm happy, even though I probably won't get to ride it for years.

I'm excitied to see this coaster will have an "on your back" section like Air (worst coaster name ever?) does. That's something no US flyer has done yet.

no B&M flyer....VFDs spend a good amount of time on their backs

I really hate that part on Air, it always makes me feel sick as it feels like your insides are trying to come out your mouth. Thats my worst section on any coaster I have ever been on

Yea, that is good.

I guess all that's left now is a hyper coaster for BGA/SWO.

No, you can clearly see the yellow line for the spine of the track in the picture. When it becomes thick yellow is when the bottom of the track (Where the train rides) is facing up and that only seems to happen during the inversions.

^ Man, I'd love to have a ride like Steel Eel. For some reason, of the hypers I've been on, Morgan has not disappointed. Of course, I've only been on Steel Force and Phantom's Revenge, but I thought they were great.

... But I'd really like to try the new B&M hyper trains.

I really need to get back out to SeaWorld to see the progress myself and to check out how large the coaster really is.

Looks like I have a reason to hit up Sea World again. It's funny, but I've been to SW only once and that's when Journey to Atlantis first came out. So, yea, I even haven't been on Kraken yet... Can't wait to try this flyer out. Can't believe we finally have one in Florida. Now where's our hyper??

Posted

^ Yeah, I've been a Florida boy myself for almost 20 years, and still have not been on Kraken OR Journey to Atlantis. I don't know why I haven't been back to Sea World in so long, I just hit up the other parks there. I'm definitely going this next season though. I wouldn't miss this coaster for the world. Orlando's going to be a hopping place in 2 years. BGA needs to get on the ball. Too bad their future is on the hinges.
