rolercstrluvr Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 ^I don't think trains will fix it, a wrecking ball is what we need.
Angry_Gumball Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 This season their focus seems to be the focus.  Whaaaa.....?   Speaking of a Vortex paint job... they should bring back the green and black. I liked it way better. OH! And brand new trains... yeah, new trains.  Woah...what on earth did I just type? I guess that's what happens when you're not feeling good, can't get your thoughts straight lol  I meant to say that it seems that their focus this season seems to be touching up the buildings and such.
XYZ Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Speaking of a Vortex paint job... they should bring back the green and black. I liked it way better. OH! And brand new trains... yeah, new trains. Â Speaking of new Vortex trains, what if they replaced the OTSRs with a vest restraint like the ones on B&M wing coasters?
Swornenemy Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 ^would definitely get rid of the head banging through the corkscrew
mark549 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 ^I don't think trains will fix it, a wrecking ball is what we need. Â It's the only B&M that I think is of Vekoma SLC "quality." Even Iron Wolf was a better ride. Â Vortex CGA deserves recycling. I'm glad B&M has gotten better at coaster design since they built this. Â Flight Deck is excellent, one of the best, but I have no desire to ride Vortex again, especially after riding Riddler's and Georgia Scorcher, which are very nice.
JJnCFL Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Speaking of paint, some photos from CGA's instagram showing off new paint on Food Festival & the Front Ticket Booths: Â Great to see them sprucing up all the small details, definitely makes a huge difference.

I think that would make stand ups much more enjoyable. The style works well on the flyers and on wing coasters. If they apply it to stand ups no more
robman Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Another Gold Striker construction picture from Facebook!
rolercstrluvr Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Thats absolutely gorgeous, it getting closer everyday. Also, look at the cabin on star tower, all the way down in the hole for maintenance.
JJnCFL Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Love the pic, Star Tower's Cabin looks as if it's trying to hide like it's about to get eaten by GS
Angry_Gumball Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Looking good, getting steeper every day! I never knew that the cabin would ever be lowered into its burrow if you want to say. I guess it makes sense from a maintenance standpoint. Â Oh, here's an interesting photo of Gold Striker's site, before and after! The 'after' photo is not the most up-to-date but is one of the recent ones I was able to find at more or less the same angle. The 'before' photo was shot back in 2008 when I initially anticipated ground clearing.
Musketeer Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Seeing the ride from above makes it look so impressive! And super twisty!
Manic Monte Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 This ride looks like the sleeper hit of 2013!
Double0Kevin Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ^ And you aren't biased at all. Â It all seriousness. I'm sure I will love the ride, but I fear our expectations are set too high for it. There is a lot of buzz about this one since it was so long delayed an all that. I just hope it ends up being one of the top GCI's ever built.
ryanm09 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ^ Im excited not because I think its going to be one of the best, but CGA hasn't got a new ride in a long time. Also GCI is my favorite. It does look like a fun ride.
XYZ Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 There is a very good chance that Gold Striker will become Northern California's best roller coaster.
scooterdoug Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ^This could certainly be the case. However, I'm not sure how long that will last. Unfortunately, California seems to have a habit of letting its wood coasters deteriorate into violent chiropractic sessions (Giant Dipper @ SCBB excepted, of course). I'll definitely be sure to ride it during its opening season, when we'll be guaranteed a top notch ride.
rolercstrluvr Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ^ Giant Dipper isn't that bad, id say they should invest ins chiropractic booth for when you come off of Grizzly.
milst1 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 We're definitely headed to Northern California this year...does anyone know the estimated opening date for Gold Striker? Sorry if it's earlier in the thread and I missed it. Â I'm happy for this park. It's been forever since they got a new coaster.
#1rollercoasterfan Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 No known date yet. I'm guessing end of May the weekend Boomerang Bay opens since they still have quite a bit more to go on it.
rolercstrluvr Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ^ Even though you beat me to the punch, I was just going to say around memorial day. All there is left to do is finish the drop and the station.
RAWKIN_coaster38 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ^I don't think trains will fix it, a wrecking ball is what we need. THIS. And if a CGA fanboy is saying Vortex needs to go, then you know it's true! Â However, I do think CGA needs a few more additions before anything else is removed. So sadly, we may have to continue being in denial about Vortex's existence for a period longer. Â And the newest pics of Gold Strike look great! I love drop construction
