SCREAMIN' DEMON

Now that Coastertube is up and running again I have been uploading some old coaster footage. I came across this old gem. I am not sure if I have already posted it to my forum so if I have, I apologize. but if not...here is some GREAT footage of Screamin' Demon, the Arrow Launched Loop, that used to be at Kings Island.

This was shot back in 1979 on my first trip ever to Kings Island. It was the year that the Beast opened and I was very excited to ride it. But as my scream name "Montezooma" implies, I have a thing for shuttle loops and even though the biggest, baddest coaster had just opened I was secretly more interested in ridding Arrow's version of the shuttle loop.

The footage is OLD and the clarity is not exactly great but that is what makes it more charming.

Enjoy the Screamin' Demon!

Screamin' Demon was great!!! The only bad part was the flights of stairs to get up there. What was it like 5 or 6 flights to the top? What a great gem Shane, I still miss that ride to this day!! (That and the King Cobra)

Scream Machine aka Ninja

I am really busting out the tapes from my Retro VCR. Here is an old newscast from the opening of the 1986 Vancouver World's Fair and Expo. Six Flags St. Louis fans will recognize this old coaster as their Ninja.

Long ago Six Flags St. Louis was the black sheep of the Six Flags Family not only did they get a hand me down ride but they also gave it a hand me down name. When I rode this ride many years ago I really enjoyed it and remember it having one of the best head chopper effects as you exited the sidewinder element. Anyways before it was moved to Six Flags St. Louis it originally opened as the Scream Machine at the Vancouver World's Fair.

The Director of rides in this video exudes about as much excitement as a wet mop. They probably should have gotten someone else to describe the excitement of this ride cause he just aint cuttin it.

While you are all looking forward to 2010 remember that Shane's Amusement Attic is all about looking back...enjoy this trip back to 1986.

Can anyone out in the Northeast part of the country help me out? I am going to New York the first part of April and of course I want to get to SFGAd.

I don't see an operating schedule on their website, does anyone know when they open for the season????

Thanks for your help

On their home page it said something like "Join us opening day March 27". Then I just clicked backwards through their calendar to find out their 09 schedule to get a better idea of if they would be daily or weekends only.

Shane, its kind of cool how you have a shot of Tidal Wave in the video segment for Shockwave. I actually kind of liked Shockwave, although I always felt like I was leaving the park to go it. If I remember correctly you walked along a long elevated bridge and old parking space markings could be seen on the pavement below. As far as Tidal Wave is concerned I always find it interesting to note that the reason for the original Batman: The Ride's compact layout is because it was squeezed into the space once occupied by a shuttle coaster.

I wonder if they had built Batman: The Ride in an area with more space if the layout would have been bigger and then I further wonder if it still would have been copied as many times...

Thanks for the comments. I too was a huge Tidal Wave fan. I have posted this video before in this thread but in case you missed it, here are two more short video clips that include Tidal Wave...

Why did they take out Tidal Wave as opposed to say Demon? The same question could posed for Superman- why did Shockwave go instead of Demon? Or why did they get rid of Deja Vu instead of Demon?

These are my thoughts to your questions:

Deja Vu was removed due to the many technical difficulties and maintenance issues it suffered from.

Shock Wave was removed in place of Whizzer being removed due to the public outcry. Also Shock Wave became pretty rough and unpopular in it's later years. I think it is a shame that this ride was not relocated to another park. I could have been a huge signature ride for another Six Flags park such as SFA or SFStL.

Tidal Wave...I have no logical reason why this was removed other than after so many years at the park ridership was low and they decided to use that space for a new ride and relocate the shuttle loop to another park (SFOG)

Anyone else have any explanations they care to share?
