It's great to see that Intamin is still offering the tilting Drunken Barrels flat ride after all these years. I've never understood why more parks don't have this awesome flat. Opryland had an enclosed one with music and lights that was definitely the best flat in the park. I just love when the whole platform starts raising and tilting.

I was reminded again how awesome they are when we visited Sea Paradise in Japan on the '07 TPR trip. 5 guys in one of these = instant tea cups of death and much hilarity!

^^^ It is a shame the Drunken Barrels ride didn't really take off. Whats moreso a shame is how Six Flags St.L has one hidden right in the middle of their park, sbno for years now.

The Drunken Barrels was a very successful ride for Intamin with many installations all over the world. Many of them may not exist today but in the 70's and 80's they were all over the place.

Doesn't look like the Space Diver worked too well for them.

And what was up with the Bubble Rides?

I think if this ride was redone with today's technology and B&M floorless trains it would be much more successful.

Remember that even though only one of these rides was sold it thrilled many park guests for many years in 3 major markets: Chicago, Atlanta and LA. It probably could have made a couple more moves if Magic Mountain had not let it fall into disrepair. It would have been a great fit for smaller parks such as Elitch Gardens or even an indoor coaster.

These are neat to see. Brings back memories of rides at CP and KI that are no longer there. I have such vivid memories of riding the "drunken barrell ride" ( I forgot what KI called it) I have two older brothers so it was always a game of "Lets see if we can make Ken puke" Good times. Right near that was KI's flying Dutchmen.

Thanks for posting this Shane. As for the Drunken Barrels, I believe Canada's Wonderland still has theirs--which was alot of fun, especially on grad night. I've also ridden CP's Ca;ypso, although I still love the Barrels better.

I do have to add how much love they had for Schwarzkopf when not many other companies would do so. I became a fanboy because of Mr. Anton Schwarzkopf. <3

Did anyone notice in the small "Shuttle Loop" description is a picture of the Tidal Wave from Santa Clara sans the weight-drop launch support under the high-end tower?

Because it's small I can't tell for sure, but I'm guessing that picture is an artist rendering as both Great America's operated weight-launched shuttle-loops.

Any ideas?

PREMIER RIDES

Bringing you more from the IAAPA trade floor, here is a company that seems to really be stepping it up. Premier had a prime location on the trade show floor, a spot that used to be reserved for Arrow Dynamics. The booth was also quite impressive. Here is a look at some of the literature being passed out at their booth.

Of interest is the marketing of a "Hyper Coaster" which is obviously the NYNY Togo coaster. Now having ridden this ride, I would think that I would not want to associate my company with this Togo monstrosity.

Hello fellow readers of "Shane's Amusement Attic". I know a lot of you follow this thread to see old brochures, maps and info on parks. I love to see these things also. That is why when another thread comes along that shares great old stuff I can't help but give it a shameless plug.

Have you seen Eric's Retro Brochure Kingdom? If not you simply MUST check out this great collection. Eric has an AWESOME collection of brochures, many of which I don't even have, of Adventure Island, Boardwalk & Baseball and Busch Gardens "The Dark Continent"

Thanks for sharing your collection Eric!

Very cool stuff. Did Premier buy out TOGO? I ask because of how The Coaster at New York New York (formerly Manhattan Express) was shown in the brochures.

Or did Premier just build the trains for it?

Eric

I think they were advertising because they installed the magnetic braking systems along with the new trains.

Hi Shane! great contributions!

Could you make a higher resolution scan of the "Double Roller Coaster" listed on this page please??? and also it's Space Tower

Sorry, I wish I could. Park of the purpose for me doing this thread is to take all of the things I have on paper and video and transfer them to computer files. I scanned these Intamin catalogs several months back and since them the paper files have been filed away and put into storage.

Thanks Shane for the shout out! I appreciate it. Your thread is always super awesome, if I can get my brochure thread to be a fraction of as awesome as yours I will be happy. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

When I first started Shane's Amusement Attic I pulled out a bunch of old Amusement Park Ads from the 70's (check them out here) and posted them. That was the humble beginning of Shane's Amusement Attic.

Well today I came across 2 more ads that should be added to those first posts. They aren't from the 70's, I would guess they are from the mid 90's. About the time that Time Warner owned Six Flags and started a national Ad campaign comparing them to Disney.

Here are two of those ads that ran in People Magazine.

Just out of curiosity, if Kennywood hasn't really released any info on the new ride yet, should Premier have been allowed to put those pics of the coaster train with the Kennywood name on them in their brochure? I think they look pretty cool though, and the schematic layout looks a lot better than the concept art seen so far.
