dubaidave Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I finally got around to going inside ski Dubai today. We visited the snow park which is geared to children more than it is to adults, but it was amazing to be actually inside the Ski Slope. As usual I will let the pics do most of the talking. They even have an Iced coffee shop. They have a couple of toboggan runs for the kids. Looking up towards the main ski slope You go out from the caves to the main snow area And some rather large penguins A film theatre Were some kids play things In Amongst the ice caverns See, I told you. It was very cold You enter into the ice caverns. The centerpiece is a huge ice dragon. Then its on your way. Onto Ski Dubai, itself. They give you trousers, boots and a jacket. I just had to include a pic of the robo coaster. You could win one of these cars It has some nicely theme areas. The Mall of Emirates is the largest shopping centre outside North America. Most of the slope you can see here is the black run. We didn`t ski today so you will not be seeing this bit from inside. The ski slope is huge
FLIPDUDE Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Oh... My... Gosh... Dubai's awsomeness is making me this close to wondering why am I Israeli. I so have to visit there once it's safe for me.
Team Thriller Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 WOW! I love the robo pic. The T-run looks crazy. Nice job.
EvoLee Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Only in an Arab mall could you see a raffle to win a $350k Lamborghini. Nice pics btw
Groteslurf Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Although I'm not really into skiing, I find these pictures very interesting and fascinating. What a megastructure Those bobsled/toboggan thinks are so cool ! What is a dayticket costing ? Once the Dubailand themeparks are open, I definitely consider a trip to Dubai.
TheRapidsNerd Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 (picking jaw up off shag carpet) Duuuuude! There are just no words for the awesomeness...
cobra_roll06 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 OMG! That place looks awesome! We have smaller, less awesome place in Glasgow called Xscape which has a a ski slope and a Robo-coaster. Been meaning to go try the Robo-coaster for months now! Looks fun. Great pics!
thomas2 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 There's an indoor skislope 6km from my house, but it's nowhere as cool as this one! The toboggan looks awesome. Truely amazing, skiing in the desert
Axman Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Wow! Dubai is better at Americanizing than America is!
noyzz Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I wish the us had some cool ski area like that!
verticalzero Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 What a lovely place, you have the hot weather and water parks outside and if your 2 hot, go to the snow dome for a few hours skiing and have a cup of T in the Ice restaurant afterwards, if you win that draw drive home in a £££££ car. A perfect day. The toboggans slides look good
TexTitan01 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I just creamed myself when I saw the photo of the Lamborghini AND the Bentley. wow, Dubai is really going all out on the tourism industry. I cant believe how much they already have and they're STILL building! They really arent taking any chances on this oil-industry-dying-out thing. When the rest of the world is in the midst of war over the last few drops of Oil, people in U.A.E will be sittin in the Burj Al-Arab and Dubai Land and their little palm tree island cabanas and be like "...thats right, bitches. WE saw it comin "
SFOGdude25 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Guys, Dubai is all over the discovery channel. They've got shows about the man-made islands, the work-in-progress skyscrapers, and the indoor ski resort. This place is an architect's playground! I DEFINITELY want to go here some time.
coastakid Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I wish the us had some cool ski area like that! ...http://www.meadowlandsxanadu.com/static/node1304.jsp;jsessionid=a_OymMx7mja9yU--lt XANADU, in the Meadowlands in New Jersey is opening in 2008 (I pass it everytime I go to GADV and it looks sick!). It is going to even have a coaster thats more than a mile on the rooftop, and an observation wheel similar to the London Eye. Thats just a start to what they Have. Go on the Website and look around. I am so excited for it!
jedimaster1227 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Looks like fun! Now if we could only get one of those over here in Orlando- we'd have a ski park, surf park, and skate park.
shesaidboom Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Toboggan runs?! I live in the land of snow and have yet to see one of those. We just have stupid hills. No fair! That place looks really neat.
crazydaveh Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Looks like fun! Now if we could only get one of those over here in Orlando- we'd have a ski park, surf park, and skate park. There is talk of one going up somewhere down along I-Drive and the Convention Center... It's just talk now. Read about it in the Otown Sentinel! I agree, that would be great! I hate living here in Orlando and never feeling cold!
Airtime&Gravity Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 It just amazes me at how large the whole Ski Dubai building is. In America we would never have anything of that size, and it is amazing at what they managed to put in there. Airtime-so that's what gas prices pay for-&Gravity
darklingscribe Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 In America we would never have anything of that size... I could see something as large as that being built in Las Vegas.
dubaidave Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 As everyone seemed to love the toboggan runs, here's a couple more pics. Dubailand are building a rotating ski slope, so that the bit you ski in will be above zero and the whole slope passes through a chilling area. I just have to say that I do LOVE Dubai. We really do have something for everyone, Check out my Hopfest thread in the random thread. Enjoy. Thanks to my sister in law, Sally, for finally getting me to go inside Ski Dubai.
dandaman Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 In America we would never have anything of that size, and it is amazing at what they managed to put in there. Fast food could explain one above statement and denounce the other.
Yellow Jacket Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I wish the us had some cool ski area like that! The cover story in the latest Atlanta Business Chronicle is about a proposed resort called Mount Pegasus to be built near Lake Lanier north of Atlanta off Ga 400 at Ga 53. Its ski dome would be 4 times the size of Ski Dubai. If approved, the earliest opening would be 2009 or 2010. It seems like a bit of a long shot because they will need special tax breaks and bonds for road improvements; but we can keep our fingers crossed. http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2007/09/03/story1.html
